Glad to see he's officially back onboard. That second direct to DVD film was bad IMO. Not sure if this is direct to DVD or not but as long as Rico is back it should be enjoyable! Filming begins May 21st in Capetown!

What made the first movie great was the social commentary/satire and great SFX.

The sequels are just silly monster movies with bad sfx.

Nothing needs to save these movies. They are movies about giant bugs. They are B-Movies. As long as there are giant bugs, violent deathes, and funny political satire they are good for what they are. Starship Troopers 3 hardly needs to be Casablanca.

Same here! Hell, I personally liked Starship Troopoers 2. I personally wish they waited for Clancy Brown to finish filming Carnivale play Zim as the original script called for, instead of making the Richard Burgi rip-off Dax, but none the less...it was different from the first. Didn't have as big of a budget and was much smaller scale, but it was still cheesey B-Movie fun.

Yeah it was pretty bad. "Hero of the Federation" and it starred the character who found the brain bug at the end of the 1st film. Tippet directed. Not sure if he's mastered his directing skills since then but he was involved on the F/X level on lots of major films including the original Troopers. They really screwed up and did that one on the cheap. The first one made alot of money and has a cult following. If they would have made a big budget sequel...the same people would have shown up. It'd be good if they got Jake Busey back as well and maybe a cameo from Carmen to tie it together. They're gonna need do alot of practical F/X and make the characters real strong in this one. The second one was just god awful.

Not true. Zim was the star in the ORIGINAL script. Clancy Brown was unavaliable due to commitments to Carnivale so they made a character who was essentially exactly the same only not as interesting and acted by Richard Burgi. I still maintain if it were the very talented yet totally underrated Clancy Brown as Zim, the movie would've been ten times better.

Part one was a big budget B-movie, and part two was a low budget B-movie. Both of which are my cup of tea.
