[A Necessary Evil]

In my opinion, it was unnecessary to reboot the series because of Spider-Man 3...if Raimi didn't want to direct, they could just have replaced him.

They didn't reboot because of SM3. Spider-Man 4 was very much underway, and ready to film, but they couldn't come to a good script, much less one Raimi felt he could make a quality film out of.

Not to mention that I think he's got a much better voice/accent for the role than Caine.
