Ford is not a great actor, but he is a likeable actor which makes him perfect for a role like Indiana Jones or Han Solo. Though I will say, he was excellent in Blade Runner.

I can agree with that. I had forgotten.

_ Whatever Ridley's Scott next sci-fi project is, I just hope H. R. Giger is involved.
_ The best thing about the Golden Globes was Ricky Gervais. It looks like it's going to be a pretty boring Oscar Ceremony. A reflection of a pretty average year for films.

_ Predator and Aliens are vastly inferior to The Thing and Alien.
_ Seven is still my favorite Fincher film, followed by Zodiac.
_ The superhero film genre probably now needs someone like Sergio Leone to deconstruct and reinvent it, like Leone did with Westerns in the 70's.
_ Kurt Russel and John Carpenter are right up there in the pantheon of great director/actor pairing, along with De Niro/Scorcese, Mastroianni/Fellini, Von Sydow/Bergman, Dietrich/Von Sternberg etc...

Especially for that last one. :woot:

I agree. Sadly I agree with the first one. I didn't really like it. I see the effects, but I felt it could've done better to reel me in.

And about the second one: YES! Something needs to change. The superhero genre is starting to have a similar feel to the western genre of the 50s. The Dark Knight was something that could help spark new life in terms of thinking in the genre, but I don't think there's been a true deconstruction that could introduce a new era for Superhero film.

Taxi Driver is, or can be, hilarious as much as it is discomforting.

I think there were a lot of good films by the end of the year that I liked, but yeah Ricky Gervais was the best thing about tbe GGs. He was the only reason I watched, and he didn't disappoint.

I think Schrader and Scorcese more or less also conceived it as a dark comedy, among other things. Brilliant Film anyway, maybe Scorcese's Best.

2 out of 4. That's not too bad. (I mean unpopular-wise:cwink::woot:)

I agree. I actually thought it was a good year for film. Maybe not great compared to some other exceptional years, but still pretty good. And you're right by the end of the year there were a lot of good films:up:.

I still consider Taxi Driver to be the best of Scorsese's big three (that, Raging Bull, and Goodfellas).

Spider-man 3 is not as bad as people make it out to be

I watched Predator for the first time in like 5 years last night. It's not just a great action movie, but it's a killer suspense movie too. The direction and editing are great.

The hangover is so terribly unfunny, dane cook is hilarious in comparison.

This, coming from a (sort of) fan of him.

I agree. Besides the big three, I also really like Casino and the underrated Cape Fear and a few others of course.

Casino is good but I felt it was just Goodfellas in a Casino without Ray Liota and Cape Fear was awesome. Max Cady's one of the best villains ever.

I loved Goodfellas so much that I didn't mind getting a second serving in a Casino:woot:
Also De Niro played a character that was very different than the one he played in Goodfellas and Sharon Stone was really good in it(her best role with Basic Instinct.)
And Cady is indeed one of the best villains ever (as portrayed first by Mitchum and then by De Niro who reinvented the character, taking some pointers along the way from another great Mitchum villain, reverend Harry Powell from Night of the Hunter.)

I hear Night of the Hunter getting mentioned a lot. I gotta find this movie.

Yes, Sir, you gotta. (It just came out on Blu Ray.)
You're in for an awesome cinematic treat and will be introduced to another one of the greatest villains ever.

Why both versions of Cady never get mentioned is a damn crime.

Both are excellent in their own ways. Mitchum had this raw and ugly sex appeal thing going where De Niro was just bat **** crazy but used religion as an excuse of his actions. He was basically a modern more twisted version of Mitchum. He was also used as a catalyst for the very flawed family, an aspect that was much improved upon from the original. I also loved his sense of humor.

"Dog is a man's best friend. Woman's too."

"I'm sorry, your honor, that was argumentive!"

Shutter Island and Cape Fear seem to be some of my top favorites of Scorsese, while Raging Bull an Tazu Driver, which may be some of his best, I don't love as much. Goodfellas however I ****ing love. The narration to Goodfellas and Apocalypse Now have the best examples of narration.

His new stuff is also just as good as his old stuff. I loved The Aviator. Scorsese had a much better handle on it than he did Gangs of New York. The Departed could be my favorite Scorsese film.
