Stephen King's "IT" remake has found a writer

I was scared of the clown/pennywise as a child. But is this even still getting made? Seems like nothing has happened in forever.

I could dig Guillermo del Toro or Darabont, but I think JJ Abrams would be great... he really got the kid aspect down in Super 8, and that's what's most important to me in IT. Without the kids really feeling like kids, without all the joking around between the horror, then it wouldn't be nearly as good. Directed by Abrams and produced by del Toro so he could still get some input.

It's been a while and I need to catch up. So, is it known yet if this remake will take place in the same timeline as in the novel, or will it be set in this present decade with the 1980's being the childhood period? Has there been recent word on that?

The sex scene in the sewers was the most random and insane thing ever. Even weirder that King uses "sexy" language and stuff in regards to a bunch of kids having a gang bang. It was so bizarre.

I'd rather Darabont get himself into Mid-World, since I haven;t heard anything about Ron Howard and the Dark Tower lately.

I wish they could get a King cinematic universe going, similiar to the MCU... so many of his books tie together, the movies should too. Get IT, Salem's Lot, The Stand, and then get the Dark Tower going.

That would be terrific, but I doubt the box office returns would justify the maneuver.

Sure they would if they did them properly and not totally half-assed. They are all fantastic stories that would adapt very well to films. They just usually don't get the care they deserve.

I haven't really been following this thread much. Is this movie still being made? If so, when is it gonna come out? 2012? 2013? Will it be set in the 80's with the adults, and the kids' flashbacks are in the 50's? Or will they set it in modern times for the adults and have the kids be from the 80's? Who should be cast as the main characters? Here are my picks:

Christian Bale as Billy

Eddie Murphy as Mike

Jim Carrey as Richie

I don't know who should play Eddie, Stan, Ben and Bev. Anyone have any suggestions? I also don't know who should play Pennywise, Tim Curry is an awefully tough act to follow. Ron Perlman maybe? Or how about Christopher Walken? And I was thinking maybe Kiera Knightly as Audra, because she kinda reminds me of a young Olivia Hussey.

They were in their early/mid twenties, I believe. I think Eddie Murphy was about 24 when he joined the cast of SNL. And I think Jim Carrey was about the same age when he joined the cast of In Living Color.

But that's not the point. It's called ACTING. Both actors have aged extremely gracefully, and can easily play a character that is ten years their junior. Hell, most of the "teenagers" cast in slasher flicks are like 27. I chose them because they both are known names, who have proven themselves in both comedies and dramas. And they're old enough to look forty, without it looking like they're thirty year olds PLAYING forty (it's easier for a fifty year old to play a forty year old convincingly than it is for a thirty year old to).

You're gonna lose A LOT of the book in a 2 and a half hour movie. The miniseries was decent, but it suffered because of the need to be network friendly. I think the book's adaptation would be best suited for Showtime or HBO, where a miniseries would be uninhibited by the censorship of violence, language and sex.

I don't think, though, that even SHO or HBO would allow the book's climactic sex romp between the children to be shown.

Maybe not shown, but certainly IMPLIED. Like the rape scene in A Time To Kill, or Hound Dog for example.

Or alternatively, it could be done in much the same way the ending shot in Sleepaway Camp was done. In that movie they got a very petite body double who was 18 or 19 at the time, glued a latex mask of Angela's face over his actual face, put a long black wig on him and then shot the scene in relatively low light. In this case, the foreplay would be done using the kids and they would strip down to their underwear. Then they will be replaced by very petite bod doubles who are all 18 or 19 years old. Any physical naked contact would be done by them. The close ups of the kids faces during orgasm or what have you is done with the kids not even touching each other. splice it all together in the editing room and it will look like the young stars are all having sex.

Also, I would like to point out that the movie KIDS had very graphic underage sex in it, and it was very well received by the public AND very well reviewed.

Or, not use the scene at all. I agree with your arguments on how to utilize it, but they are contingent upon it being important for the overall narrative, whereas...it is not. It does nothing whatsoever for the plot. That is one part of the book I would not mind them ignoring; but, others, such as the Derry Interludes, I would prefer not.

What do you mean? They were kids in 58, they were all over 40 when they reunited in the 80's.

But for Mike I think Don Cheadle would be great. Bruce Campbell for Richie, and Amy Adams for Bev. Not sure on the rest.

Did you buy him as a 750 pound genetics expert in The Nutty Professor? Or how about as his own mother, father, brother, nephew, and grandmother in the same movie? And guess what? He's not ACTUALLY 750 pounds! Or a woman! Or an overweight 13 year old boy! Hell, he's not even a genetics expert!

How about in the movie Life, with Martin Lawrence? Near the end, did you buy him as a 90 year old convict? Guess what? He's not ACTUALLY 90 years old either!

The actor in question doesn't actually have to BE 42 years old to play the 42 year old version of his character. He just has to LOOK like he could be 42 years old. Both Eddie Murphy and Jim Carrey LOOK like they could be in their 40's. And they both have the acting chops to pull off the performance.
