From comicbook.com

the movie's confirmed and yet-to-be cast villain, Steppenwolf,

Fine with me. It plays in well with the extended cut of BvS.

What about the "redesigned Darkseid" that just happened to look like Steppenwolf ?

I'm fully aware that I'm overreacting but this is ********. They choose this random out of nowhere villain out of the pantheon of iconic DC villains? Seriously?? What about DARKSEID? They can't build this guy up and not have him be the big threat. I wanted to see Darkseid so badly, especially Snyder's rendering of him.

Man this is a letdown and a buzzkiller.

Well Darkseid is the villain, he's just not appearing yet. Steppenwolf is surely not acting on his own. I much prefer it this way, was afraid they'd make Darkseid a punchbag like in New 52, but it would seem he'll be this Lovecraftian presence behind it all instead.

I don't mind a buildup to Darkseid, but Steppenwolf is kind of a low low tier villain. At least for Avengers we had Loki. It'll probably be fine though

I think the focus should be on the Leaugers anyway, so such villain works perfectly in that sense. Parademons will provide swarm of enemies for Leaguers to kill without it being controversal and Steppenwolf is there as a physical manifestation of a much bigger threat that is looming out there in space. The more I think about it, the more I like it.

I dunno, I was kind of hoping this would be the anti-Avengers approach though, whereas we have to wait through 5-6 years of buildup with Thanos, we go straight to the Big Daddy in this one, kind of like the JL animated movie JL War (LOVE that movie). And just because he's the big bad doesn't mean it's the only time he can show up, I assumed this would be "Round 1."

But I'll trust them. I hope we at least get to SEE Darkseid.

Steppenwolf as the villain is really underwhelming to me, they could have gone with such a better and more iconic villain IMO.

I'd say that this goes in line with the "Seven Samurai" approach.

And it's possible we'll get a glimpse of him. We will learn about Apokolips via Steppenwolf to some extent for sure.

some people have probally never heard of steppenwof before.steppenwof
wasn't even on JL/JLU animated shows.

If they really are dropping part 1 and 2 for one film and then sequel they
should have had darkseid as villain.

I feel the JL is more important than the villain this time. Just don't kill Steppenwolf off I hate that

On the plus side Snyder/Terrio/the actor really got a chance to make the character thier own. Apart from being DS's General and great warrior Steppenwolf isn't really fleshed out. And I don't think people would care much if he had big changes done to his character.

Exactly, he is barely known even as a fan of the comics. They could have chosen a villain so much more iconic and still built up to Darkseid. Very underwhelming. The only bit of news I haven't liked so far.

I've been reading up on him on Wikipedia and it says he fought Doomsday. Since Snyder said we were going to find out more about Doomsday, maybe in the DCEU Doomsday was originally created by the Kryptonians to fight Steppenwolf.

I don't know much about Steppenwolf aside from seeing him on Batman: The Brave and The Bold. I didn't even know he is Darkseid's uncle.

He didn't actually fight Doomsday, he pulled Darkseid away from fighting him as the planet around them was about to blow up.

I'm still holding out hope that Darkseid is a still a big prescence in the film and maybe, just maybe after Steppenwolf is disposed of, we get a mini confrontation between the newly formed League (with Superman) and Darkseid. That would be a great surprise. I doubt it though :(

I just hope they play "Born to be Wild" when he first appears.

Okay, not really. But I DO hope that the Flash or or someone makes a joke about it at some point in the film.

Not crazy about the villain choice, but willing to see how they go about bringing him to life. I hope he doesn't look like he did in the BvS deleted scene.

I'm glad the villain is something basic, not some complex personality, that requires a character arc, screen time for development and stuff like that.
