Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin to Host the Oscars

2006-11-11-9.jpg

I want to go to there.

I would have preferred Neil Patrick Harris, but Alec Baldwin is always win.

I've never been a huge fan of Steve Martin though. :/

Is this the first time Oscar has two hosts for its award ceremony?

If the Oscars ever go to NBC, I have a suggestion for host:

Conan O'Brien

At least it's not that guy, Ryan Seacreast.

That's a good combo. Should be pretty funny.

A real comedian, and an actor who has been doing comedy. Well, better than Jackman

ABC doesn't play a role in selecting a host, its the producers of that year's show. Its only the Emmys where they try to pick a "network star" because they rotate between the four networks.

Jon Stewart has hosted twice and Alec Baldwin is on NBC. Letterman hosted when it was on ABC so has Ellen Degeneres. So they just need a producer to offer it to Conan and for him to accept.

Only downside it probably means both of them won't host SNL this year.

Steve Martin reacts to co-hosting with Baldwin:

“I am happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin.”

^ Perfect. :)

As a slight aside, Steve Martin put out an autobiography not too long ago called "Born Standing Up" that is really good. I highly recommend it.
Also, Alec Baldwin put out a book called "A Promise to Ourselves" that is pretty much specifically targeted toward bitter divorced men.

I actually read both books (even though I am neither divorced, nor bitter).

The oscars just made my must watch list

I like both of em but I don't know about this two hosts thing. It seems dumb to me.

Seems like an odd duo at first but then Baldwin is imo really funny on 30 Rock and Martin has shown in the past that he's good host material. So it'll probably turn out to be a great combination for the show.

two hosts...10 best movie noms...overkill?

However, I love both Alec and Steve so it's all good.

It's major overkill. I personally think that this 10 movie noms thing is going to be a disaster. I believe that they will change it back to five with-in the next five years.

At first I thought this ten noms thing would mean a blockbuster would get through but now I think it just means that they will nominate 10 obscure movies instead of five. I really don't have a problem with them nominating obscure flicks I just wish some of those flicks actually derserved their nominations.

I agree on that. I'll go back eventually.

on slash film.com, they talked about how the 'original screenplay' noms this year will be limited due to the industry's increasing dependency of adapted material. They conluded that maybe one day the Academy might just make one screenplay category, combining original and adapted.

That would be a crime because I've always thought that the 'original' screenplay category was there to push filmmaker to produce fresh and new material. Let's pray that this won't happen!

They did ask Hugh back, actually. He turned it down.

These two are going to be hilarious - should be a great show.

^ They apparently also had asked Robert Downey Jr. and Ben Stiller to co-host the show.

I must agree with u here. I'm not too thrilled about this, but oh well. I'll have to wait and see how it goes.

Martin? okay he's done it before, but why Alec? Is he the voice of the political part of hollywood or something?
