Chan-wook Park (Oldboy) english language debut film. Actor Wentworth Miller (Resident Evil: Afterlife) penned the script, which landed on the 2010 Black List of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays and is described as such: “After the death of her father, a teenager must deal with a mysterious uncle who returns to spend time with the family.”

Last year Jodie Foster and Carey Mulligan was attached to the project but Foster dropped out and Mia Waskikowska will be replacing Mulligan in the lead role. Shooting is begins this spring.

Carey Mulligan had been attached when the script sold, but it be Wasikowska in the lead role when shooting begins this spring. She'll play an eccentric teen whose enigmatic and estranged uncle returns to the family after the death of the girl’s father. Strange things begin to happen. Jodie Foster had been attached along with Mulligan, but she's not doing the film, I'm told. When he sold Stoker, Miller had also written Uncle Charlie, a prequel that explores another chapter in the history of a family with a knack for burying secrets as well as bodies.

It certainly sounds interesting, it's a shame both Foster and Mulligan dropped out but Wasikowska is a good replacement for the lead role and I'm looking forward to Chan-wook Park's first movie in english.

This movie looks great and I'm interested to know more about the plot.

Still can't get my head wrapped around that Wentworth Miller wrote the script, but the script must be good if it's on 2010 Black List.

Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman are in talks to join Stoker.

The British actor is negotiating to join "Stoker," a family mystery-drama that South Korean filmmaker Chan Wook-Park is making as his first English-language movie, according to a person close to the production.

Nicole Kidman, herself gaining award-season buzz for her turn as a grieving mother in "Rabbit Hole," is also negotiating to come aboard in a lead part, the person close to the production said.

Kidman would play the mother and Firth the uncle.

Firth and Kidman, both visiting Los Angeles this week, met with "Oldboy" auteur Park to discuss the nuances of their roles, according to a person familiar with the meeting who was not authorized to speak about it publicly.

Would be great if both of them joins the cast.

Hopefully they join. My interest will definitely peak with them on-board.

Matthew Goode In-Talks For 'Stoker'

EXCLUSIVE: Matthew Goode is in talks for the male lead in Fox Searchlight's "Stoker", which marks the domestic directing debut for South Korean helmer Chan-wook Park. Mia Wasikowska and Nicole Kidman are already lined up to star.

I was just wondering when we might hear an update from this project, so it's good that an update arrived. Anyway, I'm kinda disappointed that Firth won't be joining this since I was pretty excited to see him in this project. I mean, I'm sure Goode would do a good job but it would have be more interesting to see Firth in the role instead.

I also saw in the article that Fassbender was interested in this, it would have been great with him too.

At first I thought that Matthew wasn't as rich of a choice as Colin Firth. But I feel that Colin, who is aging quite well, wouldn't fit as an ageless vampire.

I think the plot is the lead who has to find out if whether her uncle is a vampire or a serial killer or not.

Before I thought it was a vampire film but then I found out later on that it's not.

Anyway, here's a quote from Wentworth Miller describing what the movie is about:

What is Stoker about?

Wentworth: It’s not easy to describe. It’s a horror film, a family drama and a psychological thriller, all wrapped up in one. The jumping off point is actually Hitchcock’s Shadow of a Doubt. So, that’s where we begin, and then we take it in a very, very different direction.

You’re referencing Bram Stoker?

Wentworth: Yeah. I chose the name because it came front-loaded with obvious gothic connotations. It’s not about vampires. It was never meant to be about vampires. But, it is a horror story. A stoker is one who stokes, which also ties in nicely with the narrative.

Jacki Weaver Joins Fox Searchlight Thriller

Jacki Weaver, whose murderous matriarch earned her an Oscar nomination for Animal Kingdom, has signed on to star in Stoker, the Fox Searchlight thriller that was written by actor Wentworth Miller under the pseudonym Ted Foulke. Weaver joins Nicole Kidman, Mia Wasikowska and Matthew Goode in the Chan-wook Park-directed thriller about a teen who is mourning the death of her father and has to deal with an eccentric uncle who shows up unexpectedly. Scott Free's Ridley and Tony Scott and Michael Costigan are producing. Weaver, who just wrapped The Five Year Engagement for Universal and Judd Apatow, is repped by ICM and Elevate Entertainment.

The article doesn't mention her role but anyway she's nice addition nonetheless.

Lucas Till Joins 'Stoker'

Lucas Till, the young actor who played Havok in "X-Men: First Class," has joined the cast of "Stoker," a Fox Searchlight thriller. Nicole Kidman, Mia Wasikowska and Matthew Goode also star.

Like Weaver, we don't know which character Till will play. Regardless, with these two actors joining the project, the cast for this is pretty impressive.

Hell yes! He's one of my favourite composers working today.

I thought this was going to be a biopic about Bram Stoker. meh. the director and firths involvement interests me at least.

This movie's really shaping up. Mansell on the score? Love it.

Since Game of Thrones, incest became the rage.*

*Unless he's a close friend of Kidman's and is called 'uncle' around her daughter.

So something like "Shadow of a Doubt"?

Exactly and its similarity is deliberately according to Wentworth but obviously it'll go in a different direction. ET first look is tempting but I think I'll wait until a proper trailer turns up but it's nice that we're finally seeing something from this.

Trailer's here.

Also available in iTunes trailers.

My only complaint is feels like the trailer showed too much but anyway I'm loving what I'm seeing, so many beautiful images. The Hitchockian vibe is strong and yet it just feels right at home for Park Chan-wook. I'm impressed by all the actors, I don't think I'm disappointed now with Goode replacing Firth, he's seems to be giving one heck of a chilling performance.

looks awesome matthew goode is one of the most underrated actors today

I was a bit worried that Park Chan-wook's distinctive style would be lost in his transition from South Korea to Hollywood. But I had nothing to fear after watching the trailer, as it was exquisite to look at. Sucks that we have to wait until next year for the film.
