Sci-Fi Stranger Things (Netflix) - Part 1

Been rewatching the series the past two weeks. I'm on Season 3. It's crazy how it looks like you see Vecna in the very first episode (you even hear what sounds like a clock chime when well falls off his bike, not the one we have been hearing, but it sounds pretty ominous and dark) I even put in the S1 blu ray to see if they just added that in later, but it was on the blu ray as well. Pretty cool!

I also bought quite a few Volumes of the Stranger Things comics. Volume 1 shows Will's perspective in The Upside down during Season 1, which I really enjoyed!

Since Jonathan showed support for Will I expect him to die. That will also free up Nancy to be with Steve.

Max is ****ed too. I think Vecna grabbed her soul when she was dead for a minute. I just hope they can get her back before Vecna twists her into something awful.

Sadly, I think you might be right about Jonathan. He’s always been an anchor for Will, and they use that scene at the end of the season to remind us of that, as if they might be telling us that anchor will probably be removed to get to Will. It would be heartbreaking for Will, but it would also be a big step in him having to grow up and become more accepting of himself. Would also motivate Nancy even more in defeating Vecna.

Speaking of Nancy, I strongly think that she wont end up with Steve at the end of this. In fact, I think she probably won’t end up in any relationship at all. Despite his speech to her, I think that scene was more about his dreams and to emphasize how much they have grown since the first season than insinuating that they might get back together. Honestly, now, at this point, they are too good for each other. She’s on her own trajectory and career path and seems a lot happier as a single woman doing her own thing than being in a relationship. Both times she’s been with someone, it ultimately doesn’t or will not work out and doesn’t seem as happy.

Her dating and being with someone represents her younger self and who she used to be. Her being on her own represents her future and what she wants and needs to be.

Oh are the comics good? I’d be interested in checking them out if so.

Volume 1 was interesting. Seeing Will's perspective in The Upside Down was cool, but I feel the writer probably had some reserves/restrictions.

Volume 2 follows the test subject "Six" and I enjoyed this quite a bit. Unfortunately, s4 pretty much de-canonized this with the Hawkins Lab flashbacks. Same with Volume 3. They're still pretty fun reads.

Volume 4 is centered around Dustin's Summer Science Camp (so it takes place before S3) wasn't as impressed with it, it was just okay. Haven't read "Zombie Boys" or "The Bully" yet. I'll get around to them soon. There's a few more out there, but haven't tracked them down yet.

Another possibility for Jonathan is he might reject Will. Its too perfect that thefinale makes the audience think Jonathan will support Will, but then doesnt actually have Will tell him he is gay.

If Jonathan rejects Will that will drive a wedge between Jonathan and the rest of the group. I could even see Steve or Robin and Jonathan getting into a fight if Jonathan treats Will like ****. And if Vecna or something evil plays on that rejection it could seriously **** up Will and Jonathan.

Thanks for the info.

I don't think the Duffers would pull such a 180 with his character in the last season, plus Jonathan did catch onto the hidden meaning of Will's speech towards Mike and still seemed supportive.

It's much more likely for Jonathan to give up his life to save Will and/or Joyce. I could see that happening a lot more than certain other characters dying, actually. I think there will be some significant deaths in Season 5 but I'm not expecting a bloodbath. The Duffers have said recently that this show isn't Game of Thrones and tonally it just wouldn't fit to do a Red Wedding-type of moment in Hawkins. And there's also a pervasive myth that for a story to have dramatic weight there has to be a lot of death which is not true at all.

Yeah, one of the deaths is almost certainly gonna be Steve or Jonathan.

Maybe Eleven too, but idk. Given they already faked that out in season 1, that's probably a little iffy

That would definitely help solve the love triangle that Nancy has found herself in

Me at the end of season one: Ugh, did Nancy really get back together with Steve?

Me at the end of season four: Would Nancy consider marrying both Jonathan and Steve so they could be brother husbands or something?

Nancy will have Jonathan on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Steve will be Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. Sunday is throuple day.

I wonder how they're gonna approach Vecna next season.

I mean El beat him once already. Then beat him again in season 4 with help.

I am curious if Vecna is gonna gain some new powers or even an ally to up the stakes.

Steve must be protected at all costs. Considering how much he was built up this season (and how Jonathan wasn't) I'd expect him to bite it unfortunately. He's safer to kill than Jonathan too, as his brother and mother aren't main characters.

I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot of what Nancy described after Vecna let her out of the trance. Some of the things she talked about haven't showed up or happened yet (that monster with the huge maw, for instance).

Suffice to say, we'll see him form an army of yet unseen beasts from the Upside Down.

Ah yes how could I forget those images. Really can't wait for the next season.

Just an army consisting of Demogorgons, the Mindflayer, whatever the season 3 creature was and Vecna won‘t be enough for the finale.
There will be other (D&D) creatures

The creature in Season 3 was the Mind Flayer, just taken on a corporeal form in the "rightside up".

My guess is the creature Nancy mentions is another manifestation of the Mind Flayer. It might not work to introduce another huge creature this late in the game but who knows. I'm still personally holding onto the idea that the MF is the true big bad of the series and not Vecna. Vecna works as a human villain with ties to Brenner and the Hawkins lab, but there's something about the wholly inhuman eldritch monster of the Mind Flayer as the "god" of the Upside Down that is more frightening to me.

It seems to me that Vecna was more the one that gave the Mind Flayer its current "shape" as it were, while the matter itself that the Mind Flayer is composed of has existed for millennia

The show presents that the Mind Flayer already existed as some kind of amorphous entity but was given shape and weaponized by Vecna. But the implication in previous seasons sans Vecna was that the MF was the Lovecraftian arch-villain of the whole series. My thought is that could still be true and Vecna/Henry/001"s understanding of his relationship to the MF is not what he thinks it is. It could explain where his powers came from in the first place; that the Mind Flayer had targeted him as a child just as a pawn for its greater purpose.

...okay yeah, I hope they go that route. MF has already proven to "latch" onto people in that sense, it'd be a great twist if that's what happened

Not gonna lie, the way they’re posed here had me worried they were dating or something.
