At first glance, immediately it's spoilery. But I didn't even realize there wasn't a Max character poster going into this. It's one of those things where they could have released both of them before Vol. 1 because nobody thought Max would be comatose in a hospital bed the whole season and Henry is, well, Henry so I don't think that particular look of his is giving much away even though it's the Mr. Whatsit persona.

I’m far too cynical to believe I won’t be queerbaited in the end, but after this chunk of episodes and then S4 before it, I’m really buying into the idea that the Will/Mike thing isn’t as one-sided as they would like us to believe.

I would say I can’t believe some people are that dumb, but after what happened with the 2024 election, nothing really surprises me anymore.

I’m buying into the theory that such a break-up already took place. Their interaction in the first episode was warm, but… something was different. She’s in the Upside Down and he barely seems concerned about that (or what any of his family members are going through, tbh), plus Will wouldn’t even have been inquiring about dating Mike if he and Eleven were still a thing. He spent all of last season stepping back and trying to keep Mike and Eleven together.

Something is up.

I think it’s that a chunk of what would have been writing in previous seasons has been replaced by CGI and action spectacle.

Season 5 is Stranger Things: Avengers Endgame singularly focused against Thanos Vecna.

Some people are gonna be into that and for others (younger people maybe) it’s just more superhero slop now. Will is a superhero now, maybe Max and Holly too in a different way (inside the mind of Vecna). Eleven and the other girl (Eight) from Season 2 being back are two others.

I’ll withhold judgment until the season is over and I’ve seen with my own eyes whether they actually deliver on Byler or chicken out.

But the vibe has been… odd. Outside of Will/Mike and Will/Robin and maybe Karen pulling some badass moves with the Demogorgon, everyone’s role either feels reduced or like they’re locked into storylines that don’t feel befitting of a swan song for a popular show like this. Going from Will just straight up getting snatched in S1 to this Mr. Whatsit bit gives me some mood whiplash.

The main four "kids" (plus Eleven) not being together all that much is what really strikes me as odd. I like some pairings (Steve and Dustin in particular) but I'd like them to circle back to what made the first season so special, and that was the friendship between those guys.
