Yeah, I've seen it a few times...maybe close to 8 times? Like the look and special effects in this. This short was made by people who actually work in the business and this short is officially endorsed by CAPCOM. 317,000+ views in 5 days.

Having a tall & blonde Tom Cruise as Ken is EPIC! Having Jin Kazama playing RYU is DOUBLE EPIC!!! :awesome:

OMFG, i am addicted to this film. this is hands down the most epic live action video game adaptation ever made, and its not even a full length feature film. it makes me even more disgusted with hollywood's treatment video game movies. this was made by someone who truly has a passion for video games and it shows. if only we can someday get a full length film greenlit with the same people helming the project.

I guess what Hollywood doesn't understand is you don't have to have a bunch of big name actors in order to succesfully do a film. Jon Foo is pretty under the radar until Tekken releases depending on if it is released in theaters in the U.S. While this short film is only 3 minutes long, they managed to capture Street Fighter perfectly, let's hope that this pans out and we can get a more accurate film

In 3 minutes they managed to destroy what Hollywood did in two full length feature movies.

Sad but true. I guess the thought of having a main character wear nothing but a white gi and a red headband is too far fetched to be taken seriously in Hollywood. But that just goes to show you, all it took was one actor who was a fan of the games to craft something that even a bonafied director hasn't been able to do. And from what I have read, Capcom was cool with him moving forward with his project.

Joey Ansah and the crew got blessing from Capcom ;)

Here's the article on the project:

Collider Premieres the STREET FIGHTER LEGACY Live-Action Short Film! Plus Two Awesome Behind the Scenes Featurettes
by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub Posted:May 6th, 2010 at 12:14 pm

Earlier this week we premiered two teaser trailers and some images from Joey Ansah’s Street Fighter Legacy live-action short film. Based on the responses in our comment section and on YouTube, you were all as impressed with the footage as I was and have been looking forward to checking out the entire short film.

While some trailers show you everything, I’m happy to report you haven’t seen any of the money shots in Street Fighter Legacy. Trust me, if you’re a fan of the Street Fighter video game franchise, about 1:45 in, you’re going to wish you were watching a feature film.

As I said in the first post, while you might not know Joey Ansah’s name, if you’ve seen The Bourne Ultimatum, you’ve definitely seen his work, as he played “Desh” and did the awesome fight scene in Morocco with Matt Damon. Ansah is the main force behind the Street Fighter Legacy short film. More after the jump:

Before telling you more about the project, let’s get to the reason you’re here: the Street Fighter Legacy live-action short film. Once you’ve watched it a few times, further down the page are some behind the scenes featurettes and more info on the film:

The first thing you’re probably wondering is does this short film lead to a feature. I think if the film spreads virally and people start to talk about it on more than just a few online sites, you never know what could happen. But for now, the short is it. Saying that, I think it’s a great blueprint for what a future video game movie could be.

In our first article, we posted what Joey Ansah said about why he wanted to make the short and who was involved. Here’s the main point:

As an actor, filmmaker and fan, I have been disappointed by the many diluted, unfaithful and outright butchered movie adaptations of fighting video games. It was clear to me, that given the way the movie industry worked, we would never see a super faithful, darker toned and more adult themed (or just plain good!) incarnation of Street Fighter unless a die-hard director or filmmaking team with game canon knowledge stepped up to the plate to helm such a project. So almost a year ago, I began writing script treatments (with my writing collaborator and great friend Christian Howard, who also plays Ken) and a production design brief and partnered with Streetlight films before proposing my concept and vision to Capcom. I’m pleased to say they gave their blessing and permission for the project to move forward.

Joey sent over a new message for today’s post:

Hey guys, I can speak for the whole of the SFLegacy team when I say I’ve been blown away by the response. The support, interest and anticipation for our humble short film that has generated in the last 48hours is incredible and we are all very touched. With all this excitement we wish we could be about to unveil a 30 minute film for you all, but our resources, time and budget only allowed us to give you 3 minutes. But we’ve tried to make that 3 minutes as damn cool as can be (in 1080p HD) and very re-watchable, hopefully leaving you wanting more!

This film is very sound driven so please listen to it with good headphones or speakers to properly appreciate Patrick Gill’s epic score and Nigel Albermaniche’s huge sound design. This film was made to be seen in full HD so try and watch in 1080p if you computer can handle it.

Finally, the truth is we’d love to do more in the Street Fighter universe. I want to make a series/movie and I really want it to happen. But what will fast track the process is the fans getting behind it, making their voices heard, and championing me and my team doing this on the biggest scale. I have done the hard part and got it to this point. If you get behind my vision and demand more, we’ll try like hell to make it happen.

And for the people that loved the short film and want to know how they made it, Ansah has released two behind the scenes featurettes. The first one is called ‘Designing the fights’ and it shows how much time and energy went into the fight scenes and how much they studied the actual game. The other featurette is called ‘Costume Design’ and it’s all about getting the look right. I’ll admit I was blown away by how seriously they took everything in the featurettes. But this explains why the short is so awesome.

Check them out below and next week Ansah will be releasing a few more featurettes. Until then say what you thought of everything in the comments below. For more on Street Fighter Legacy, here’s the official YouTube page, the ‘Street Fighter: Legacy’ Official Facebook Group, and you can also go to www.joeyansah.com for more updates.

:awesome: the short is less than 50,000 or 500,000 views from 1 million on Youtube. I forget. I just know it's over 950,000 at the moment...man, I am a idiot at saying 500,000:o:o

This film destroyed! Absolutely ANNIHILATED all the Street fighter films out there and the Mortal Kombat films included!

Please make more like this hopefully Hollywood has seen the real potential of this!

Peace

I think Capcom should go ahead and do the feature. Just tone down the laugh out loud eyebrows and Im game for the movie.

Capcom should finance this production team and let them make the best Street Fighter movie ever in existence; the fact that they can already accomplish this feat in 3 minutes but the other two full-featured films with millions in budget and even some recognizable actors in the cast couldn't show that SF: Legacy is more than a short film; it's amazing. If there is a way for fans like me who can help convince Capcom throw their full support (ie money) behind this team, I'm all for it.

While that short video was well made, it still suffers the same problem that all Street Fighter movies have thus far suffered; i.e. the lack of a good plot in which the main character actually does something before the final fight. Either one or the other is always missing in the movies.

Well, it might have had a plot if it were longer than 3 mins. It's only supposed to be a cool fight scene.

yeah, you can't expect much of a plot out of a 3 minute short film. Fact of the matter is they stayed true to Street Fighter and didn't deviate too far away from the game itself. Both previous movies focused heavily on a character that although was still popular within the game, wasn't the essential character of the story. Guile's only motive was to exact revenge on M.Bison and so was Chun-Li's. Ryu's story centers around him walking the path to becoming the strongest fighter all while battling with the influence of the Dark Hadou. Sure it may be the same story that we've seen in previous other movies, but there are different ways that you could do it. .

Ryu has a really good story there, and it makes the title of "Street Fighter" make sense. It should be the most likely plot for the past two movies but NOOOoooooo....

You misunderstand my point. It's not to say that it sucks but that this is incomparable to the full-length movies out there. Since the video was only three minutes long, it did not need a plot to impress; only a well choreographed action sequence. This does not a good feature-length film make. So, to say that Capcom should have just financed this team to do a full live-action movie and that it would be the best Street Fighter movie out there would be completely unwarranted based on this video alone.

I disagree. Ryu's story is largely based around the idea of a nomadic warrior who struggles with an inner demon and desires to be the greatest fighter in the world and attempts to do so by training in isolation. While this makes a cool backstory, it's a pretty stagnant one. There is no sense of development or a well defined beginning, middle or end. Every Ryu-centric Street Fighter movie (I'm focusing on the animated movies) has him training on his own far away while the plot develops somewhere else and Ryu only gets in on it right at the end in time for the final battle.

Personally, I think the most well made Street Fighter story was Street Fighter II V which was an animated series that had Ryu and Ken realising they weren't the best fighters after getting thoroughly trashed by Guile and then deciding to travel the world to train under these people. It worked because by being an animated series, it allowed the canon characters to be featured in their appropriate environments rather than being shoehorned together through some plot while inexplicably wearing their trademark outfits despite it being both, inappropriate and impractical.

Totally agree with you, while the video is a good fight scene, using many moves from the game, that's all it is and that won't make a good movie. There short film didn't need a plot, but a full length movie does, if the people behind the short gave a little info on the plot they have in mind I'd be much more interested in a movie. Right now it's just a live action recreation of a Street Fighter match from the game.

I'm pretty sure if they reach the level of support that they are looking for, they would reveal the direction that they are taking. Just from the short itself, its given that they are focusing on Ryu, Ken, and Akuma all three are central characters to the game. Call Ryu's story one dimensional or whatever, its something that Hollywood failed to do with the 2 previous films. The Van Damme version went out of its way to include damn near every character in the then popular Super Street Fighter game, Legend of Chun Li had characters that looked absolutely nothing like the game counterparts. Watching both films, you can only point out a handful of moves that were actually from the game, the rest is your regular kung fu film martial arts. I say give the guys a chance and see what they can do and you might be suprised. It shows that they are actual "fans" of the game and not some director who is more concerned with money as opposed to delivering a product that stays true to the original source :cwink:
