Variety reports that Fox Searchlight and New Regency will co-finance The Night Watchman, a James Ellroy-scripted drama that will star Keanu Reeves.

Reeves plays a cop who's always done what was needed to solve homicides and crack down on gang violence until he gets a wakeup call and decides he can no longer play the game that made him so effective.

David Ayer has been set to direct after he does a rewrite. Production begins April 30.

Sounds like a challenging role for Keanu and i guess he's not doing Speed Racer

Figured there'd be at least some interest:csad:

I thought Harsh Times was pretty bad (he's directing this too). So let's hope that this is much different than Harsh Times, even with Keanu.

Terry Crews Talks Night Watchman
Source: Steven Chupnick

From football to the movies, Terry Crews has pretty much done it all. And he's getting more popular by the minute. The star of "Everybody Hates Chris" sat down with ComingSoon.net on the set of his latest flick, Get Smart – also starring The Rock, Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway - to talk about his next project.

After Get Smart, Terry's heading to the new crime thriller written and directed by David Ayer (Training Day, Harsh Times) which is set in the Los Angeles police department. Terry mentioned the name of the flick as "Night Watch," but it looks like the name of the movie has already been changed before production has begun. The new name of the Fox Searchlight film is The Night Watchman.

He's juggling three things at once with the comedy, drama, and the TV show. He says he loves it (and so does his wife); "She just says, 'Keep making that money.'"

With The Night Watchman, "This is a bigger role, totally dramatic piece – Keanu Reeves, Hugh Laurie, Forest Whitaker – a really, really, cool LA story; it has a 'Crash'-type theme to it with what's going on. And David is just the man to direct it; I did 'Harsh Times' with him and I also did 'Training Day.' I met him on the set there – a movie he wrote, but didn't direct."

His character is a guy named Washington. "He's an LAPD spokesman who's kind of had a turn, who's seen a lot of dirt go on in the LAPD and has decided to try an pull some guys out of it and it really comes back on me in a lot of ways. A lot of guys don't want to be out of it. It's just a really, really cool drama; I'm so excited about it. Chris Evans is in it. It's just a really cool deal, and I'm very proud; I can't wait to start that. I start the end of the month, early June; and I do that all the while I'm doing 'Chris' and they were able to work it out with the show. I love what I do, I was born to do this."

The Night Watchman and Get Smart don't open until 2008. You can catch Terry on "Everybody Hates Chris" Monday's on The CW.

You know, I like his movies, but so far they seem like the same movie, but told in different ways.
