'Avengers' Stuntman -- SCALPED During 30-Foot Fall

46 minutes ago by TMZ Staff

A stuntman for the new "Avengers" movie nearly lost his entire head last Friday during a 30-foot fall gone horribly wrong -- but thankfully, the guy just lost a bloody chunk of hair instead.

Stuntman Jeremy Fitzgerald tells TMZ, his job was simple -- get hit with an arrow and fall 30 feet off a building ... but he caught his foot on the way down, and slammed his head into the brick ... leaving behind a freshly peeled slab of scalp.

But it could have been a LOT worse -- according to Jeremy, he narrowly missed a razor sharp rain gutter during the accident.

And if all that wasn't bad*** enough -- Jeremy tells us, he went right back to work after the fall ... no hospital, no stitches ... just a bandage.

That guy...is a champ!

I'm surprised Marvel let him go back to work really.

Thankfully he's alright. On a more selfish note; hit with an arrow!!!! Hawkeye. Awesome.

Thats scary stuff there, I just got done reading Vic Armstrong's book. It is ridiculous what these guys do even with injuries. On the other side of the coin for this story, Wooo Hawkeye

Nearly scalped? What was he doing on ebay? Good thing someone stopped him bidding at the last minute and buying up all the stock of whatever it is he was collecting.

Thank God he was not hurt.. very lucky indeed. props to him for going back to work !!!

Bloody hell, I applaud him and every other stuntperson that risks their lives doing this stuff to make a good movie!

Hey, if he's a comic nerd he can tout that he got his scars from Hawkeye. :D

Somebody should have told Hawkeye to stay away from the stun arrows.

The stunt dude deserves some kind of Marvel medal for taking an arrow from The Purple One for the sake of a movie....throw him a one-liner cameo somewhere in there fer cromssake, even if it's just for the blu-ray special edition extras.

On a geekier note: wonder who the guy was supposed to be stunt-doubling for? Another Avenger (Thor or Cap would be the most likely bets), or an actual bad guy? (I'm trying to picture him in a Skrull costume.....)
