New York police say a 29-year-old woman working as a teacher's assistant at a Bronx high school took a mentally ill student home and raped him on at least six occasions.
Maria Contreras, a former substitute paraprofessional at the Bronx Academy of Letters, was arrested Saturday night and charged with eight feloniessix counts of second-degree rape with a victim under 15 and two counts of second-degree criminal sex act with a victim under 15.
Police say she carried on a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old child earlier this year.
Via the New York Times:
"These allegations are incredibly disturbing," Devora Kaye, a spokeswoman for the Department of Education, said by email on Saturday night. "Ms. Contreras has been removed from her position and will no longer be employed" by the department. She said education officials are helping with the police investigation.
The boy was one of Ms. Contreras's students, the police said. He walked to Ms. Contreras's apartment, where the police said they had sex at least six times in November.
She was reportedly arrested after the 14-year-old told his mother, who called police.
When Pastor George Hunley was hospitalized with two gunshot wounds this week, the Virginia man had a simple explanation for police: some black guy he tried to help shot him. But on Friday, it was Hunley who ended up in jail thanks to his stupid, self-aggrandizing story.
According to Hunley, he pulled over to help a black man and white woman on the side of the road when the man suddenly stole his wallet and shot him. During the supposed struggle that followed, the 54-year-old pastor claimed he broke his attacker's arm.
Initially hailed as a Good Samaritan by the local news, Hunley refused to take a polygraph test and police began to question his account.
"I'm on painkillers," Hunley told WWBT at the time. "I've been in shock. I've been shot twice. I had to wrestle for my life. There is no way in this world I'm going to take a polygraph test. They are too inconclusive."
On Friday, police arrested Hunley for falsely reporting a crime, telling WRIC, "Everything right now points to us believing that there was no armed robbery, there was no bi-racial couple, that all of that didn't happen."
Hunley reportedly maintains his version of events, saying "he's not a man who lies."
Authorities in Pennsylvania have arrested a 16-year-old boy who allegedly shot a classmate in the face and then shared a selfie with his corpse on social media, The Washington Post reports.
According to police, the photo served as "a key piece of evidence" against Maxwell Marion Morton, who they say murdered Ryan Mangan, also 16.
A day after Mangan was discovered dead in his home on Wednesday, the mother of a third teen showed the picture to police, her son having screencapped the photo from Snapchat. From the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:
"(Police) received a copy of the photo which depicted the victim sitting in the chair with a gunshot wound to the face," a police affidavit states. "It also depicts a black male taking the 'selfie,' with his face facing the camera and the victim behind the actor. The photo had the name 'Maxwell' across the top."
Additionally, police say the third teen received texts from Morton stating, "Told you I cleaned up the shells," and "Ryan was not the last one."
Marion reportedly confessed to the crime after police searched his home and found a 9 mm handgun. The teen now faces charges of first-degree murder, homicide and possession of a firearm by a minor.
When Karen Shearon learned her 15-year-old daughter failed a state exam on Tuesday, the Staten Island woman reportedly did what any other responsible parent would do, threatening to bomb the institution that flunked her.
According to police, Shearon told a guidance counselor at Susan Wagner High School, "I'm gonna blow up that school," which, in her defense, could really mean anything.
On Friday, the mother of three was charged with second-degree aggravated harassment, pleading not guilty.
"They harassed my children and that's not correct," she told reporters after her arraignment. According to the Staten Island Advance, Shearon now wants to take legal action against the school.

A San Francisco resident infected with measles traveled to and from work on the BART train for three dayspossibly exposing tens of thousands of people, according to reports.
Officials say they are tracking the residentreportedly a LinkedIn employeewho was diagnosed last week:
In the Bay Area case, the infected person was known to have traveled between the Lafayette station in the East Bay and the Montgomery station in San Francisco during the morning and evening rush-hour commutes on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of last week, BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost said.
That ride is 35 minutes long, but health officials said the highly infectious, airborne virus could have remained in the air for up to two hours. Because BART cars circulate throughout the Bay area, tens of thousands of people could have potentially been exposed, Trost said.
The infected rider, who was not identified by name, age or gender, also spent time at the E&O Kitchen and Bar in San Francisco on Wednesday evening, potentially exposing others who were in the restaurant between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., health officials said.
The latest measles outbreak began in December at Disneyland and has since spread to dozens of states with more than 110 cases in California alone.
Hani Durzy, LinkedIn's director of corporate communications, confirmed the story, telling ABC, "We are working very closely with the San Francisco Department of Public Health, and following their recommended protocol for managing this situation."
Great, but the protocol isand please don't forget thisto vaccinate your damn kids.
A homeless man broke into a funeral home in Columbus, Georgia and banged a woman's corpse, the Associated Press reports.
The 26-year-old Dominique Smith was arrested on February 9th when he was found in a vacant home with various items of stolen property, including TVs, guns, and a bicycle taken from the Hill Watson Peoples Funeral Service. Further investigation of the burglary revealed that a body had been "disturbed," police said.
Smith faces necrophilia charges. He is expected to appear in court on Monday.
The Lexington Dispatch regrets the error.
In an effort to avoid paying his traffic tickets that worked for a lot longer than it probably should have, Olawale Agoro of Hackensack, New Jersey appeared in court several times while posing as his made-up twin brother "Tony," the Bergen Record reports. Also, he pretended to be blind.
The 58-year-old Agoro was issued with five motor vehicle summons on July 31st. He appeared in court on Sept. 19, identifying himself as "Tony." After his appearance, the original arresting officer, who had recognized Agoro in court, pulled him over, issuing three more tickets and impounding his car, the Record reports. This forced Agoro to admit that he was not blind, so that he could get his car back.
According to the Record, Agoro appeared before clerks as "Tony" twice more, requesting adjournments (that were granted) while claiming that his "brother" Olawale was in Nigeria mourning the death of their father. But he was standing right there in front of them!
When Agoro missed a court date on Wednesday, a warrant was issued for his arrest. He appeared in court on Thursday, still claiming to be Tony. At this point, clerks called township police. From the Record:
Detective James DePreta and Officer Ken Stapleton questioned Agoro about "Tony." But the Hackensack man was unable to produce identification. Police then matched a birth mark under his lip on his driver's license photo of Agoro to the man who was claiming to be "Tony," and a fingerprint scan proved that "Tony" did not exist.
The Record reports that Agoro, after resisting arrest once more, was sent to Bergen County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail. "This is just another example of the extremes people will go to escape justice," Rochelle Park Police Chief Robert Flannelly said Friday.

CNNThe woman killed in an apparent road rage incident last week returned home to pick up her son and then went back out to find the man now suspected of shooting her, a Las Vegas homicide detective said Tuesday.
Tammy Meyers, a 44-year-old mother of four, had been giving her 15-year-old daughter a driving lesson Thursday when she had an encounter with another driver that left her scared and upset, Lt. Ray Steiber told reporters.
When she got home, Meyers told her daughter to go into the house, wake up the girl's brother and have him get in the car. Meyers' son Brandon, 22, brought a registered firearm with him.
Meyers drove back out of the neighborhood to see if she could find the man, Steiber said.
"The vehicles and persons found each other," he said. "Through the course of them finding each other, at one point Mrs. Meyers was following what we consider a suspect vehicle and then at another point they broke apart and Mrs. Meyers went home."
Shortly after arriving at her house a second time and getting out of her car, a gray or silver sedan pulled into the cul-de-sac and a volley of shots was fired.
The son returned fire, Steiber said.
Meyers was struck in the head by one bullet and was rushed to the hospital, where she died on Valentine's Day after being taken off life support.
Steiber said the family called 911 after Meyers was shot.
The driver, described as a man in his 20s to 30, is about 6 feet tall with medium build. He wore a white V-neck T-shirt.
Steiber said authorities believe a bullet from the suspect's gun killed Meyers, and not one from the son's firearm.
The initial incident came after the suspect was speeding past Meyers as she drove her daughter home from a driving lesson. Seeing the speeding car, the daughter reached over and honked the horn.
Steiber said the man pulled in front, stopped his car and came back to the Meyers car. His words scared mother and daughter. They did not say anything to the suspect, Steiber said.
Vigil for the victim
Meyers' husband spoke at a vigil for his wife on Tuesday. He said some of the facts in the case were starting to get twisted by the media.
"My son is not an animal. My son is a hero in my book," Robert Meyers said. "There were mistakes like everyone of us have made in our lives. But this particular mistake was made to keep a bigger mistake from happening. And my wife paid the ultimate price for it."
Brandon Meyers said he was trying to protect his family.
"Everyone can think what they have to think," the 22-year-old said. "I did it for a reason and I'd do it for anyone I loved."
Americans and guns.
Fixed that for you
