Stupid People Doing Stupid Things Thread - Part 3

Here's a good example of why everyone having a gun is a bad idea. In Florida, naturally. I'm sure the shooter will claim he was in fear of his life to justify shooting the man.

CNN
Real brave man pointing his gun at the wife and kids. :o

If someone I didnt know followed me to my house and I feared for ky life Id probably have my gun in my hand too just to try to intimidate the person into leaving, but Id never just get out of my car and blow the person away. Too many people shoot first and ask questions later. That being said, the victim was being foolish. I would never follow an aggressive driver to their home especially if I had kids with me and my wife.

He was stupid too. This reminded me very much of the Zimmerman case where he was explicity told not to follow and did so anyways and we all know how that turned out.

Yeah the only sensible people involved were the 911 dispatcher and the kids and wife. The two men had way too much testosterone and stupidity in the veins.

Hero Subway Employees Ignore Robber With Bag on Head Until He Goes Away

Two teenage sandwich artists thwarted an attempted robbery this week using nothing more than their natural apathy and the weight of their crushing indifference, WPRI reports.

According to police, a man wearing “what appears to be a white t-shirt on the top of his head and a tan plastic shopping bag tied around his face” entered a Subway franchise in Coventry, Rhode Island on Tuesday and demanded money.

Presumably mistaking him for an actual customer, however, the Subway employees just pretended he wasn’t there. From NBC News:

The man — who looks exasperated in security camera video of the incident — “became agitated and mumbled something under his breath as he walked out of the business,” police said.

“Sure, whatever,” the teen heroes probably added.

Canadian Prime Minister shares hotel with Hells Angels

Extra security precautions had to be taken for Conservative Leader Stephen Harper and his family Thursday evening when the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club rolled in to stay at the same east-end Toronto hotel.

About 30 bikers wearing Hells Angels, Red Devils and Nomad patches arrived at the Scarborough hotel on Thursday afternoon. Many members of the groups remained outside by their Harley Davidson motorcycles into Friday morning.

Let's not look into any other guests of the hotel or anything. I'm sure it'll be fine. :whatever:

California Cop Suspended After Pulling Gun On Man Recording Him

A California police officer was suspended after video surfaced showing him unholster his gun while arguing with a man recording him in a small city north of San Francisco.

"The video is not a typical interaction between our Public Safety Officers and the public," a statement posted to the Rohnert Park Police and Fire page on Facebook said.

The officer, who wasn't identified, was placed on "temporary paid administrative leave" while the city brings in an outside investigator to look into the confrontation, according to the statement.

Fear that the video may spark an anti-police backlash also led the city Department of Public Safety to cancel its "Coffee with a Cop" event that had been scheduled for Thursday at a McDonald's.

"We have information that individuals from outside the community have voiced an interest in using this event to cause a disturbance, potentially putting our community and citizens at risk," a statement from the department said.

The video, taken last month, shows the unidentified Rohnert Park officer briefly point his gun at Don McComas, who was in front of his home. According to McComas, the confrontation began when the cop slowly drove by and watched McComas hitch a boat to his Ford Excursion. McComas started recording with his camera as the officer drove toward him and parked in the middle of the street.

About two minutes into the recording, the officer emerges from the car and orders McComas to take his hand out of his pocket.

“No, sir, I’ve done nothing. I’ve done absolutely nothing," McComas says, at which point the officer draws his gun.

"You know I don't have a weapon on me," says McComas. " You have your gun out because you're a police officer. You're trying to intimidate me and this is going all over YouTube."

Later, McComas accuses the department of corruption and the officer asks, “Are you some kind of a constitutionalist crazy guy or something like that?”

The officer holds the gun out for about two minutes before leaving. McComas was neither arrested nor accused of wrongdoing.

Reptile Zoo Rescues 150 Goddamn Crocodiles From Strange Man's Home

About 150 crocodilians were removed from a Toronto-area home last week after their owner reached out to a nearby reptile sanctuary for help with his bonkers hoarding problem, CBC News reports.

“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” Bry Loyst, founder of Indian River Reptile Zoo, told CBC Radio on Thursday. “I could not believe that somebody had that many crocodilians and raised them to adulthood. These were not baby little crocodiles. They were adults.”

According to The Toronto Sun, it took more than 20 volunteers four days to relocate all of the alligators, crocodiles and caimans, which ranged from 4- to 11-feet long.

“We rented four 26 foot trucks and loaded a lot of them into sonotubes, which are concrete tubes, and blocked off the ends,” Loyst old Global News.

But while Loyst praised the owner for seeking help, the man who founded his own reptile zoo said he still doesn’t understand the gator gatherer’s obsession.

“Why he wanted that many animals is beyond me,” said Loyst.

Judge orders man to marry girlfriend and write out bible verses

Last week a shot-gun wedding went viral when Smith County, Texas Judge Randall Rogers ordered 21-year-old Josten Bundy to marry his girl friend Elizabeth Jaynes or spend two weeks in jail.

Since the young couple can’t afford for Bundy to miss work, they went back to the courthouse and tied the knot.

The couple say they have no regrets — they’d planned to get married in a year or so anyway — but they do feel like they got cheated out of the wedding they’d been saving up for. Bundy felt disappointed that more of his relatives couldn’t make it to the courthouse on such short notice, and Jaynes couldn’t even get hold of a white dress on time.

CNN called Attorney Blake Bailey, who practices constitutional law, to see if issuing a court order for a shotgun wedding and writing bible verses is even legal, and Baily flatly said, “no.” An outraged Kenneth Jaynes, Elizabeth’s father, told CNN’s Julia Jenaé he started calling around to find a lawyer but had a hard time getting anyone to take Bundy’s and Jayne’s case seriously. At least two of the attorneys he spoke with found the situation so absurd they told him “someone’s pulling your leg.”

Man, ****ing Texas.

ISIS Beheads Elderly Archeologist In Palmyra, Syrian Official Says

The 82-year-old scholar worked for over five decades as the head of antiquities at the ancient site.

Islamic State (IS) militants beheaded an antiquities scholar in the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra and hung his body on a column in a main square of the historic site, Syria's antiquities chief said on Tuesday.

IS, whose insurgents control swathes of Syria and Iraq, captured Palmyra in central Syria from government forces in May, but are not known to have damaged its monumental Roman-era ruins despite their reputation for destroying artifacts they view as idolatrous under their puritanical interpretation of Islam.

Syrian state antiquities chief Maamoun Abdulkarim said the family of Khaled Asaad had informed him that the 82-year-old scholar who worked for over 50 years as head of antiquities in Palmyra was executed by Islamic State on Tuesday.

Asaad had been detained and interrogated for over a month by the ultra-radical Sunni Muslim militants, he told Reuters.

"Just imagine that such a scholar who gave such memorable services to the place and to history would be beheaded ... and his corpse still hanging from one of the ancient columns in the center of a square in Palmyra," Abdulkarim said.

"The continued presence of these criminals in this city is a curse and bad omen on (Palmyra) and every column and every archaeological piece in it."

Teen Charged In Vicious Attack After 5-Year-old Found Unconscious

15-year-old Pennsylvania boy has been arrested in connection with the sexual assault of a five-year-old girl who was beaten and left for dead in North Philadelphia last month.

Police said the boy faces attempted murder, aggravated assault, kidnapping, rape, unlawful restraint and other charges.

According to the Philadelphia Police Department, the victim’s mother called police on the morning of July 28, after she found her badly beaten daughter unconscious in the backyard of her home.

"I thought she was dead," the little girl's 29-year-old mother told nbcphiladelphia.com. "I was just crying and screaming."

The girl was transported to St. Christopher’s Hospital, where doctors discovered she had sustained multiple injuries, including a broken jaw, fractures to her skull and a bruised liver.

"None of [her injuries], thank god, lead to any internal brain damage or bleeding," the mother told NBCPhiladelphia.com. "Both of her eyes are swollen shut. She can't even open her eyes right now, but she's in good spirits. She has to do a strictly liquid diet for the next six weeks."

At a Thursday press conference, Special Victims Unit Captain John Darby described the attack on the girl as "about as bad as it gets."

In a statement to The Huffington Post, Philadelphia police spokeswoman Christine O'Brien said the girl told police she had got up during the night and was walking in the hallway of her home when a man came from behind a closet door, picked her up and carried her out the back door.

"The man began to kick and punch her in the face," O'Brien said.

The suspect, who is not being identified because he is a juvenile, is known to frequent the neighborhood where the incident occurred, NBCPhiladelphia.com reported.

Police said it will be up to the district attorney's office to determine whether the boy, who is now in custody at Philadelphia's Youth Study Center, will be charged as an adult.

Contacted by HuffPost on Tuesday, Cameron Kline, the communications director for the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office, said his office is not yet prepared to make that decision.

"We're waiting for our charging unit and the investigation to continue," said Kline.

The little girl's mother, who has described her daughter as a brave fighter.

"She's so resilient and she's not letting what happened affect her so negatively to where it stops her life," the girl's mother told nbcphiladelphia.com.

What the actual ****...

Can you imagine the ****storm that would happen if he had ordered two men or two women to marry that had planned to? It wouldn't be a "Oh Texas :awesome:" report by Fox, it would be something like "JUDGE FORCES PEOPLE TO GAY MARRY AGAINST THEIR WILL!"

It would be followed by numerous reports on the gay agenda now pushing for everyone to be homosexually married and that next it would involve animals or some other ridiculous claim from Fox News.

Two arrested after apparent Facebook threat to Pokemon card tournament

Weird or stupid? I can't decide which it is more of so I'll drop this in both threads.

The Boston Police Department arrested two men accused of posting threatening pictures on Facebook and of bringing a number of guns to the world championships of the Pokemon card game Friday.

Screengrabs (below) show 27-year-old James Stumbo allegedly made a post on the "Mayhem Pokemon Crew" Facebook group. The Facebook post included a picture of a shotgun and an AR-15 resting on the rear of a white car with an NRA bumper sticker, along with the message "Kevin Norton and I are ready for worlds Boston here we come!!!"

When another member replied "good luck," Stumbo allegedly added, "With killing the competition?" (A Huffington Post report quotes police reporting that Stumbo said his post was taken out of context.)

Event security was made aware of the post and stopped Norton (age 18) and Stumbo from entering the event at the Hynes Convention Center Thursday after they drove to Boston from Iowa. Police seized the pair's vehicle and searched it upon gaining a warrant on Friday. Police said they found "one 12-gauge Remington shotgun, one DPMS Model AR-15 rifle, several hundred rounds of ammunition, and a hunting knife." Since the pair could not produce a License to Carry, they were arrested on Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and other firearm-related charges, police said.

Norton and Stumbo are both listed as invited competitors in the Masters Division of the tournament, which offered more than $500,000 in scholarships as prizes. Motherboard reports that tournament attendees were informed of the threats on Saturday after the suspects were placed under arrest and that police presence was heavy at the tournament all weekend. Pokemon card game expert Josh Marking told Kotaku that Stumbo was "a self-proclaimed gun enthusiast," but that his sarcastic manner meant it was possible it was all a joke.

"Prior to the event this weekend, our community of players made us aware of a security issue," The Pokemon Company said in a statement. "We gathered information and gave it as soon as possible to the authorities at the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center who acted swiftly and spearheaded communication with the Boston Police Department. Due to quick action, the potential threat was resolved. The Pokémon Company International takes the safety of our fans seriously and will continue to ensure proper security measures are a priority.

"The relationship between police and private sector security is important in both our community policing philosophy, as well as our counter-terrorism strategy," Boston Police Bureau of Intelligence and Analysis Commander Superintendent Paul Fitzgerald said in a statement. "This incident is a good example of private security reaching out to their local Boston police district and relaying information to detectives and BRIC analysts in order to identify the very real threat. The BPD detectives and collaborating agencies did a great job in the stop and prevention of a potential tragedy."
