Stupid People Doing Stupid Things Thread - Part 3

So I googled LARP rules on swords and they say any sword under 9 inches is a dagger at best or a knife. So the news botched it again.

I like tacos and you know what I like? Other people creating threads.

tbh, i'm really not sure where the black stereotype of fried chicken and watermelons came from. i'm not black but i love me some kfc & tormus (bangla for watermelon)

Here's a list from wikipedia.

As you know...I am the old guy here....when I was growing up, the stereotype of Blacks loving to eat watermelon and fried chicken was used in lots of racist jokes, ads, etc....you saw it, you knew what it meant.....so.....in recent years on the Hype, I see people post such things, I infract them....and they (and even a mod or two) tell me that it is NOT racist (even though I personally know it was used to be offensive towards black people) and not offensive to black people.

I shake my head in bewilderment.

I never know what is or isn't anymore except for the blatant stuff so I try to stick to the middle. I've worked with black guys for years and some of them were born in North America and some were born in Africa, they preferred being called different things if you didn't use their names. :p The guys from NA preferred Black or African-American while the guys from Africa got incredibly angry if you called them Black as they were African.

My 8 year old nephew even tried to tell me off a bit when I called a guy black when we were watching TV. I gave him the same example as above and he thought about it for awhile, eventually deciding that it was ridiculous in the first place.

Im not even old (24) and even I know its used, at least in the South, as a derogatory racist joke about black people.

Not that racism/bigotry makes sense anyhow, but I never got why those foods were used to be derogatory.

Like Dave Chappelle said,"Let me tell you something, if you don't like chicken and watermelon, there's something wrong with you."

It's how they were used. The images were made to make the black people look stupid and foolish while enjoying them...it could have been any food, but they were the predominate ones used.

Dave hit the nail on the head there, I don't know anybody that doesn't love those 2 things! Being from the south fried chicken is one of my all time faves. But I do understand where Mr. Lee is coming from in that they just happened to be the foods that were used most often (also they were always seen as cheap insinuating the people themselves were poor). I don't think I've ever been to a BBQ here in FL that didn't have fried chicken and watermelon as one of many options to grub down on

Girls told to 'hide the sausage rolls' when graduating

The senior boys of Biglerville (Pa.) High School are all getting ready to dress up in khakis and collared shirts for their graduation ceremony this month, per the school’s dress code. Meanwhile, the girls are getting ready to hide their unsightly “sausage rolls, as Mrs. Elliott calls them” also per the dress code, because everyone knows “you can’t put 10 pounds of mud in a five-pound sack.”

At least one Biglerville student, graduating senior Briana Burtop, isn’t down with this body-shaming in the guise of modesty, and she went on the local news to tell Mrs. Elliott where she can stick her goddamn sausage rolls.

Burtop’s mom wants to take it even further, threatening to sue the school for gender discrimination—the boys’ section instructs them not to show their underwear, but it doesn’t order them to minimize the appearance of their body fat.

Wow. Who the **** prints those off, reads them then thinks 'This is appropriate for teenage girls to see, especially during their formative years when they may already have body image issues."

Peacefully protesting while armed. People always find new ways to make an oxymoron.

Can't people be arrested for intentionally attempting to cause a religious feud? You know if someone had a "crucify Jesus" thing happening outside a church people would be up in arms over it and the cops would have it dispersed in minutes.

Does anyone know if politicususa.com is a satire site? They have a bunch of crazy stuff on there and I'd like to make sure that if I did post anything it wouldn't be satire in disguise of stupidity. :D

There's also no reason to purposely antagonize a group of people because of their religion. What happened in Texas was terrible, but showing up at a mosque in another state armed and spouting anti-Islamic rhetoric isn't going to solve anything.

hateful people will do hateful things. the best thing to do is go 'smh' and move on. but that's not what the vast majority of muslims, or at least the perceived voice of muslim people do when something offensive comes about.

No, the best thing to do is not shake your head and move on. Ignoring hate groups won't make the problem go away. The Muslims at this mosque had nothing to with the Texas shooting, yet they're the ones that feel threatened because of this protest, and for very understandable reasons.

there is nothing that's going to make hate groups change their minds. nothing. so the only thing to do is ignore them.

That's easy to say when you aren't the one being targeted by them.
