Stupid People Doing Stupid Things Thread - Part 3

Two arrested after apparent Facebook threat to Pokemon card tournament

Weird or stupid? I can't decide which it is more of so I'll drop this in both threads.

Morons. Not every state allows you to just bring firearms across their border. Some states require a license to carry rifles and shotguns and other states don't. Boston isn't Iowa. A responsible gun owner would check the laws of the state they were traveling to. And a person with an ounce of common sense wouldn't make a post on Facebook bragging about going to a public tournament with a rifle and a shotgun.

Indian Tribunal in India Orders 2 Sisters Raped As Punishment For Brother's Elopement

The unofficial council says the man ran away with a married woman of a higher caste.

An unelected, all-male village council in India has decided to punish a man who eloped with a married woman by ordering his two sisters to be raped. The two women, ages 23 and 15, fled their village in the Baghpat district after the decision was handed down on July 30.

This is sick! It's time for India to walk it's ass out of the dark ages and stop crazy misogynist old men from using rape as a form of justice.:cmad:

Edit: Actually that's an insult to the people who lived during the Dark Ages in Europe. Not even they ordered innocent girl's be raped for their brother running off with a girl.

That sounded of dubious origins. Then I saw it meant India, not American Indians and sadly I no longer question the veracity near as much. I'm still hoping it's wrong but India is not known for its humanitarian treatment of just about anyone, especially women.

Indian villages and a majority of the local police don't view rape as wrong. Well they don't seem to think it's wrong on the man's part so I doubt the story is fake, but if I find out it is I'll remove the article from this thread, and say it was a fake. Women's rights in India is an abysmal train wreck. Granted I've only seen a little bit about it, and only recently became aware of the problem when the rapes began being reported in the U.S. so I'm not well versed in women's rights in India, but from what little I do know about it it's just sad, and needs to be corrected. No woman should be raped as a punishment especially a child.

I updated the title of the article in my post so others would know it's in India.

It is India so it is likely to be true but that doesn't mean we can't hope for it to be wrong.

Rude and classless *******. Its not enough to simply ignore your fellow competitor trying to shake your hand after a race, she has to slap her arm away.

The more xenophobic and counter progressive I hear come from the Republicans the more I fear them gaining total control of the government.

Luckily they have positioned themselves in such a way that it will be very hard to win a general election. Their xenophobia works much better at the state and local level

Come Enjoy Auschwitz’s Nice, Refreshing Showers, Says Auschwitz

Visitors to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp are in for a treat, is apparently what museum management was thinking with their most recent purchase: a brand new outdoor shower sprinkler (at Auschwitz). After all, who wouldn’t love a nice, refreshing shower (at Auschwitz)? The answer, of course, is everyone.

The offending misters appear to have been put up just this past weekend. And people were less than thrilled. As one visitor told The Jerusalem Post, “As a Jew who has lost so many relatives in the Holocaust, they looked like the showers that the Jews were forced to take before entering the gas chambers.”

After complaining to management, the visitor was told that the showers are “a good way for people to cool off on a very hot day.” Which, while true, also ignores the fact that they just effectively installed a makeshift Schindler’s List set at Auschwitz.

To their credit, the museum did take to Facebook earlier today to try to explain the mess.

After all, as Auschwitz said, “Something had to be done.”

Who could look at that proposal and sign off on it as a good idea?

Ehh people need to calm down. This summer has been hot as hell, and old people are at danger in heat. Especially old people that arent from warm climates. This shower idea isnt a bad idea regardless of where its at. Its a safety measure to keep people from having heat strokes.

Besides, if these decendants of holocaust victims can handle going in Auschwitz they should be able to handle the sight of people cooling off under a shower.

No bail for pair accused of threat at Boston Pokemon tournament

These two fools are denied bail. I agree with the judge. Whether or not they had intent they were just shy of being capable of actually committing the crime which leans a lot towards they intended to do something.

Two men who police say were heavily armed with multiple weapons and ammunition outside of a Boston Pokemon card tournament last month will be held without bail for at least four months as they await trial.

At a bond hearing covered by the AP, Judge Thomas Horton rejected defense lawyer Steven Goldwyn's arguments that 27-year-old James Stumbo and 18-year-old Kevin Norton were simply engaging in "vague bravado talk" when they posted messages to social networks showing the weaponry and alluding to violence at the tournament. "This is just the way they all spoke to each other," Goldwyn said.

He also noted that the suspects cooperated with police and didn't attempt to flee Boston in the two days between the police discovery of the guns and their arrest.

But Assistant District Attorney Jospeh Janezic said the act of driving to the tournament with the guns and ammunition raised the seriousness of those online threats. "It's a different scenario than idle chitchat on a Facebook or Twitter account," he said.

"You're one step away from carrying those out," Judge Thomas Horgan agreed. "This wasn't just kid talk on the computer," he said in denying bail for the pair.

In addition to the previously reported Facebook postings, a detective at the hearing revealed online chatroom conversations allegedly from Stumbo that made reference to the Boston Massacre, the Boston Marathon bombings, and the Columbine massacre. Janezic said investigators are still determining whether this was a case of "cyberbullying or a mass casualty [situation]" and are considering whether to expand the current charges of illegal possession of weapons and ammunition.

"Muslim flight attendant says she was suspended for refusing to serve alcohol"
A Muslim flight attendant says she was suspended by ExpressJet for refusing to serve alcohol in accordance with her Islamic faith.

In a bid to get her job back, Charee Stanley filed a discrimination complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on Tuesday for the revocation of a reasonable religious accommodation.

Flight attendant investigated for photos on tarmac

She wants to do her job without serving alcohol in accordance with her Islamic faith -- just as she was doing before her suspension, her lawyer said.

"What this case comes down to is no one should have to choose between their career and religion and it's incumbent upon employers to provide a safe environment where employees can feel they can practice their religion freely," said Lena Masri, an attorney with Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

Stanley, 40, started working for ExpressJet nearly three years ago. About two years ago she converted to Islam. This year she learned her faith prohibits her from not only consuming alcohol but serving it, too, Masri said.

She approached her supervisor on June 1 and was told to work out an arrangement for someone to fulfill passenger requests for alcohol.

"It was at the direction of the airlines that she began coordinating with the other flight attendant on duty so that when a passenger requested alcohol, the other flight attendant would accommodate that request," Masri said. "We know that this arrangement has worked beautifully and without incident and that it hasn't caused any undue burden on the airline. After all, it was the suggestion of the airline."

Flight attendants complained about 'menacing' images on aircraft

It seemed to be working out until another flight attendant filed a complaint against Stanley on August 2 claiming she was not fulfilling her duties by refusing to serve alcohol, Masri said. The employee complaint also said Stanley had a book with "foreign writings" and wore a headdress.

On August 25, the airline sent a letter to Stanley informing her that it was revoking its religious accommodation to exclude her from service of alcohol and placing her on administrative leave.

"They placed her on unpaid leave and they advised her that her employment may be terminated after 12 months," Masri said. "We are requesting that her employment be reinstated and the accommodation of her religious beliefs be reinstated as well."

A spokesman for ExpressJet declined to discuss Stanley's complaint.

"At ExpressJet, we embrace and respect the values of all of our team members. We are an equal opportunity employer with a long history of diversity in our workforce. As Ms. Stanley is an employee, we are not able to comment on her personnel matters," spokesman Jarek Beem said in an email.

Sarah Palin Says If You Want to Be in America You Better Speak American

1418660530982775697.jpg

Speaking to CNN on Sunday, Sarah Palin praised Jeb Bush for being bilingual and the “connection” that he has with the United States’ “large and wonderful Hispanic population,” but hedged her generous opinion by saying she’d rather people “speak American.”

“I think we can send a message and say, ‘You want to be in America, (a) you’d better be here legally or you’re out of here, (b) when you’re here, let’s speak American,” she said. “Let’s speak English, and that’s a kind of a unifying aspect of the nation is the language that is understood by all.”

Last week, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley said that the Republican Party “often appears cold and unwelcoming to minorities.” Palin disagreed: “I can’t think of any Republican that I know who would have that in their heart.”

Hmm, sure.

(Also, haha, she nominated herself for secretary of energy in a hypothetical Trump administration: “If I were head of that, I’d get rid of it,” she said, referring to the Department of Energy.)

It's genuinely scary to think she was almost the Vice freaking President

I just tried to boil some water but turned on the wrong element. :-P
