high school freshman arrested after taking homemade clock to school

Ahmed Mohamed — who makes his own radios and repairs his own go-kart — hoped to impress his teachers when he brought a homemade clock to MacArthur High on Monday.

Instead, the school phoned police about Ahmed’s circuit-stuffed pencil case.

He loved robotics club in middle school and was searching for a similar niche in his first few weeks of high school. So he decided to do what he’s always done: He built something.

Ahmed’s clock was hardly his most elaborate creation. He said he threw it together in about 20 minutes before bed on Sunday: a circuit board and power supply wired to a digital display, all strapped inside a case with a tiger hologram on the front. He kept the clock inside his school bag in English class, but the teacher complained when the alarm beeped in the middle of a lesson. Ahmed brought his invention up to show her afterward.

“She was like, it looks like a bomb,” he said.

“I told her, ‘It doesn’t look like a bomb to me.’”

The teacher kept the clock. When the principal and a police officer pulled Ahmed out of sixth period, he suspected he wouldn’t get it back.

They led Ahmed into a room where four other police officers waited. He said an officer he’d never seen before leaned back in his chair and remarked: “Yup. That’s who I thought it was.”

Ahmed felt suddenly conscious of his brown skin and his name — one of the most common in the Muslim religion. But the police kept him busy with questions.

Police led Ahmed out of MacArthur about 3 p.m., his hands cuffed behind him and an officer on each arm. A few students gaped in the halls. He remembers the shocked expression of his student counselor — the one “who knows I’m a good boy.”

Look at that hardened criminal.:o

I'd sue the **** out of the school and police department then move the **** out of the state. Bunch of racist morons.

Obviously someone watches too many movies to think the contraption he brought in could possibly be a bomb, complete with a "timer" to tell you when he plans to blow everyone up. Add in his skin color, name and the fact these people are ****ing clueless it's a surprise they didn't call him a terrorist on the spot.

The saddest thing about this was he was trying to impress his peers in his club, and has aspirations, and then this happens. WTF.

Also, I just read that the town isn't that kind to the Islamic community, which shows in its teachers and police force.

If a white kid built that thing, the teacher would've been 'wow that's amazing.'

I bet you anything, if a white kid, who was total delinquent trash, brought that clock in. His peers would be like "he's turning things around, he found his hobbygood for him."

I mean are you ****ing kidding me? “Yup. That’s who I thought it was.”?!

Nope, shut it down, shut it all down.:o

If they had just found something like that shoved in a corner of the classroom with no idea who made it then there might be a cause for worry but the guy brought it to the teacher, explained what it was and showed them right off the bat. Bunch of jackasses. That guys going to have issues for years to come.

It's trending on Twitter, facebook, reddit and other forms of social media, it's the biggest (and saddest) news of the day.

It fits here or in the "Cop abuse of power" thread, no need for a specific thread IMO.
Edit : it also made the new here in France.

But sadly not everyone views this thread but I'm sure many would be interested in the story if it had it's one thread for people to discuss it

Honestly what is there to discuss really ? Dumb move from the school, dumber move from cops, perfect for this thread :)

I dunno man, but I went ahead and made a thread, and somehow the discussion in it's gotten it to 15+ pages in. :)

The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a car crash involving a school bus and a "driverless" vehicle near Syracuse, Indiana, that left a 9-year-old boy injured.

The department says that the boy’s 35-year-old mother, Angela Kipp of Syracuse, had been backing the car out of her driveway on Sept. 18 when she discovered a spider on her shoulder and jumped out of the car while it was in reverse.

According to authorities, the boy climbed into the driver's seat as the car was in reverse and attempted to step on the brake but instead hit the gas, sending the Dodge Avenger into a passing Wawasee Corporation School bus. The boy was found lying outside the Dodge Avenger when police arrived.

Man Sets Fire to Detroit Gas Station While Trying to Kill a Spider

[YT]DKrmvM-3hzw[/YT]

Recently, a man attempted to a kill a spider after noticing it while filling his car at a gas station, Fox 2 Detroit reports—an understandable impulse, if somewhat gratuitous. However! His weapon of choice was a lighter, and he set the whole pump on fire. Haha, whoops.

The incident took place at a gas station in Detroit’s Center Line. An employee, Susan Adams, hit the gas automatic stop button and called the fire department, although the man grabbed a fire extinguisher and put out the flames before firefighters arrived.

According to Fox 2, the man came back the next day to fill up again.

“He was sorry,” Adams said. “He was sorry, he said he didn’t know. It is just one of those things that happen—stupidity.”
