Stupid People Doing Stupid Things Thread - Part 3

“I was at a party recently and it was difficult to hold my hors d’oeuvre plate,” she said.

And there it is, the greatest white person/first world problem of all time.

Is this really a "white person problem" so much as a lawsuit happy person problem? You don't have to be white to make a stupid lawsuit like this.

Group that waved Confederate flags indicted

These are some stupid people. The idea that the Confederate flag as it exists now (no matter how many times it's pointed out this was never the official flag to begin with) is somehow a valid claim is tenuous at best. Being a racist ******* who threatens people is still not acceptable.

Months after a convoy of pickup trucks waving large Confederate flags rumbled past a birthday party in suburban Atlanta, a grand jury has indicted members of the group on terror-related charges.

The indictments charge 15 members of an organization known as Respect the Flag with violating Georgia's Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act and making terroristic threats. If convicted, they could face up to 20 years in prison.

Melissa Alford, who hosted the July birthday party, where many of the attendees were black, said tensions flared when the trucks drove by the home in Douglasville, Georgia. The people holding the flags were also brandishing weapons, she said.

"They used the N-word and said they were going to kill people on my property," Alford told CNN affiliate WSB.

Members of Respect the Flag have described the day's events differently, telling the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that someone at the party threw rocks at them, triggering the altercation.

The group's leader, Levi Bush, who is among the people indicted, declined CNN's request for an interview. Other members of the group could not be reached for comment, and it was not clear whether they had legal representation.

The indictment alleges that Respect the Flag is a "criminal street gang," and that members of the group threatened "to commit a crime of violence" against people at the party, "with the purpose of terrorizing those individuals and in reckless disregard for the risks of causing such terror."

The prosecutor has said he won't discuss details of the case outside court.

"It would be inappropriate for us to get into the facts and details of the case," Douglas County District Attorney Brian Fortner told reporters this week. "I think that's better reserved for the courtroom."

The Southern Poverty Law Center, which is representing some of the people who attended the party, praised the prosecutor for pushing forward with the case.

"These cowards chose unarmed African-Americans enjoying a peaceful birthday party to vent their violent racist hatred," Morris Dees, the organization's chief trial counsel, said in a written statement. "This is reminiscent of the Ku Klux Klan -- modern-day night-riders terrorizing African-Americans in the name of Southern heritage."

Doug Ford says Trudeau can't be Prime Minister due to smoking pot in college

A bit of context may be needed here. Doug Ford is the Brother to Rob Ford, the mayor of Toronto who was caught and publicly admitted to using crack cocaine and having drunken binges while mayor.

He even had memes made about him.

crackdrunk.jpg

People have noticed the hypocrisy. His brother is fine to run one of the biggest cities in the country while being a drunken crack smoking idiot but a guy who smoked pot a decade ago isn't fit to run a country. Very classy.

Coal company backed high-profile climate denier

No surprises here. A man was paid money by a vested interest to deny climate change was real. And likely he's been paid a lot more by other similar companies who would benefit with denying the truth.

In this case it only came to light because the company filed bankruptcy.

The reason I put this in here is maybe not obvious initially but it is incredibly stupid to deny the climate is changing because you are literally paid to say it by people who want you to say that, making you little more than a mouth piece for people who care about money over the environment or the future of the planet.

The smog has lifted from the financial ties between high-profile climate denier Christopher Horner and the coal industry. The now-bankrupt Alpha Natural Resources Inc., one of the largest coal companies in the country, paid Horner $18,600 in three equal installments, according to documents filed as part of the company’s bankruptcy case.

Horner, a lawyer involved with several nonprofits, including the libertarian think tank Competitive Enterprise Institute, has written books intended to debunk climate science, namely Red Hot Lies: How Global Warming Alarmists Use Threats, Fraud and Deception to Keep You Misinformed, and The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming and Environmentalism. In public appearances, Horner has dismissed climate data and suggested that environmentalists are aligned with communists. Horner has also been accused of harassing climate scientists by flooding them with information requests.

Financial ties between Horner and the coal industry come as little surprise. In August, The Intercept reported the link.

If $18,600 seems like a bargain rate for espousing anti-science arguments that benefit the coal industry, The Intercept suggests that the payout could be one of several.

“The Alpha Natural Resources filing corroborates the suggestion in a recent email from chief executives of major coal firms that they are underwriting Horner’s current work.

In early June this year, the Coal & Investment Leadership Forum, a trade show, sent this message to its email list: “As the ‘war on coal’ continues, I trust that the commitment we have made to support Chris Horner’s work will eventually create great awareness of the illegal tactics being employed to pass laws that are intended to destroy our industry.” The email was signed by Alliance Resource Partners’ Joe Craft III, Alpha Natural Resources’ Kevin Crutchfield, Drummond Company’s Gary Drummond, Arch Coal’s John Eaves and United Coal Co.’s Jim McGlothlin.”
The Wall Street Journal’s Bankruptcy Beat quoted Michael Halpern of the Union of Concerned Scientists as saying: “We’ve known for years that Chris Horner and his front group have secretly been supported by companies that don’t want their names associated with attacking climate scientists.”

But, until the recent bankruptcy filing by Alpha, Halpern said that “the funding organization and individuals have been so opaque it’s been difficult to understand who is really behind it.”

"Woman leans her airline seat back, passenger behind tries to choke her in retaliation"

A man aboard a San Francisco-bound flight was detained Sunday night after he apparently tried to strangle a fellow passenger who had leaned her seat back shortly after the plane took off from Los Angeles International Airport, authorities and witnesses said.

Southwest flight 2010 had been in the air for just over ten minutes when around 10:43 p.m. the scuffle broke out, prompting the pilots to turn back, police said.

The FBI detained one of the passengers, who was not identified, and authorities are investigating the details of the reported assault, said airport police Officer Rob Pedregon.

A woman aboard the flight took of photo from inside the plane of several police cars on the runway and described the altercation in an Instagram post written in German.

The woman, who goes by @mel.anita, said nine police cars surrounded the plane after a man grabbed the passenger by the throat when she tilted her seat back.

The nearly 150 passengers on the flight were put on board another flight and arrived in San Francisco at 1:43 a.m. Monday, Pedregon said.

I know the airlines cram people into planes like sardines but strangling someone over reclining their seat (even if it was intrusive) is excessive.

Did they try to ask them not to do it instead of murder? I find you generally get more positive results from not trying to kill people. :o

I guess Jaden Smith is a scientist, now?

Jaden Smith in new bizarre rant: Teen star compares himself to Galileo and says he and Willow are 'scientists', & he will disappear in 10 years

The 17-year-old son of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith appears in the new issue of GQ, in which he revealed his plans for the future and how he feels about being a star at a young age.

'It's an honor for people to think I'm crazy': Jaden Smith gave a bizarre interview to GQ magazine, in which he reveals he will disappear off the grid within the next 10 years

‘Because they thought Galileo was crazy, too, you know what I’m saying? I don’t think I’m as revolutionary as Galileo, but I don’t think I’m NOT as revolutionary as Galileo.’

Italian Galileo Galilei - who was a hugely influential astronomer, physicist, engineer, philosopher and mathematician during the Renaissance - wasn’t the only person Jaden compared himself to during the interview – he also revealed that he plans to be like underground graffiti artist Banksy in the future, when he disappears off the grid.

‘No one will know where I am in 10 years,’ he insisted. ‘They’ll see me pop up, but they’ll be like, “Where’d you come from?”

‘No one will know where I’m at. No one will know who I’m with. No one will know what I’m doing. I’ve been planning that since I was like 13.

‘It’ll be kind of like Banksy. But in a different way. More of a social impact. Helping people. But through art installations…. You know what I’m saying? So I’m just dedicating my whole life to helping the world.’

In the meantime, Jaden plans to go to college, and told GQ: ‘I want to set up office at MIT just so I can learn and bring in new technologies into the world.’

He explained: ‘Me and [14-year-old sister] Willow are scientists, so everything for us is a scientific test upon humanity. And luckily we’re put in a position where we can affect large groups of human beings at one time.

‘And that’s what I really encourage kids to do, is learn the things that you want to learn, because then not only will school become fun, but it will make your dreams come true.’

Jaden insisted that he’s no wild child, but wants to be known as ‘one of the craziest’ people of all time.

‘I rarely go to parties,’ he said. ‘My whole life is just dedicated on learning and breaking like, the craziest records of life, and being like one of the craziest human beings to ever exist. That’s me… I just want to teach people how to be comfortable. Stop being so scared.’

I can just see him popping out of a manhole in LA "I'M A SCIENTIST!"

He is only 17 otherwise I'd say he needs to be committed to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation. Maybe he still needs to be. Kid is crazy.

I know the airlines cram people into planes like sardines but strangling someone over reclining their seat (even if it was intrusive) is excessive.

It's just another sign that the human race is teetering on the edge. So many people are full of fear, rage and going slightly mad due to the way we are living.

Just thought I'd brighten the day :gngl:

I read the whole article, the kid is full of it and what he says definitively makes me think about Scientology.
He's trying to pull a Shia Labeouf type of communication, ie : non sense.

Quote from http://www.gq.com/story/jaden-smith-gq-interview

“Me and my sister started this initiative called Mystery School. It dates back to like ancient Egypt, ancient Greece—like Plato, Pythagoras, all these students had mystery schools. And what they learned in there was sacred. They would learn the math and sciences of that generation, and then they would build the cities and give that energy and that knowledge to the other people. And a lot of stuff they would keep really, really to themselves. Like, you couldn't say the word dodecahedron, which is just a shape, outside of one of the mystery schools or they would, like, kill you or whatever. Because it was such a sacred shape.”

Well, Will Smith is a Scientologist I believe so it would make sense his kids are. Plus when you grow up with no concept of what money is it's bound to screw you up

So....if he sees someone being mugged, he will pop out of nowhere and paint a mural depicting their pain and horror at man's inhumanity towards his fellow man......a tagger Batman........

In a way they are lucky because they can think and say what they want and be open to all kinds of crazy stuff. It's the total freedom you get when in their position of mega wealth and crazy liberal parents. They are also in a dangerous position where they can lose touch with reality. If we started spouting this stuff when we were young our friends would tell us to shut the heck up and stop being mental.

They will probably grow out of it when they get older and get some reality of life (worryingly they wont ever get the chance for reality) Or they will learn to hide the freakishness like a lot of them do. They need some down to earth straight talking friends I think.

Who knows, maybe one day he will be some amazing philanthropist or something good in the world, maybe Jaden and his sis will invent the cure for all illness and a never ending clean energy source? Or his art installations will eminate goodness vibes and bring about world peace.

Or he will come out as the son of God while living in a hole in the woods.

It just makes me want to whip my hair back and then forth again to be honest.

I guess Jaden Smith is a scientist, now?

http://www.gq.com/story/jaden-smith-gq-interview

I can imagine how the conversation went...

"Daddy, I want to be a scientists. Make MIT accept me like you made those director's accept me."

But this bit...

He explained: ‘Me and [14-year-old sister] Willow are scientists, so everything for us is a scientific test upon humanity. And luckily we’re put in a position where we can affect large groups of human beings at one time.

My my my isn't he just a peppy little spit****. He acts like the world is his own personal petri dish and we're guinea pigs.

Well, Will Smith is a Scientologist I believe so it would make sense his kids are. Plus when you grow up with no concept of what money is it's bound to screw you up

I hope there's a sequel to After Earth with Scientology parallels. It'll be hilarious.

Oklahoma State crash: Suspect's father defends daughter as 'kind, loving'

Once more a parent defends their child's horrendous actions, claiming they are "a good kid" and that it isn't fair they are being seen negatively despite their actions showing otherwise. Like driving drunk into a parade and killing or injuring multiple people.

He can't believe it in his heart yet everything else points to the contrary. And according to the lawyer there were "warning signs" although he did not elaborate on that.

The father of Adacia Chambers, who plowed into a homecoming parade over the weekend, leaving four dead, wants people to know his daughter isn't the person prosecutors are portraying her to be.

Chambers faces four counts of second-degree murder. She made a court appearance Monday, via closed-circuit video, during which bond was set at $1 million.

"I just want people to know that Adacia is a kind, loving, caring person, and she wouldn't have done this purposely. I just don't believe that in my heart," her father, Floyd Chambers, told reporters.

"Something has happened. I don't know what because the night before she was fine. She was with my sister and my mother and she was happy, so glad to see us," he said. "Something went wrong."

Chambers, 25, drove into a crowd gathered for the parade before Oklahoma State University's homecoming game in Stillwater on Saturday, injuring 47 people in addition to the four who were killed. One of those who died was 2 years old. Eleven of the injured were 13 years old or younger.

Seventeen injured people remain in the hospital, four of whom are in critical condition.

Payne County District Attorney Laura Thomas said in a statement that prosecutors will consider additional charges in the coming weeks related to the surviving victims.

"Based upon the Probable Cause Affidavit and information presented by the police, the state believes the acts alleged demonstrate a depraved mind and indifference to human life," Thomas said. "The evidence suggests this was an intentional act, not an accident."

'Warning signs'

Chambers' attorney, Tony Coleman, said his client was not drunk, though he said he's making that determination based on meeting with her hours after the incident.

"I didn't detect any signs nor was there an odor of alcohol coming from her body," he said.

His client had a standard field sobriety test, he said. "Her poor performance" on that test led officers to believe she was "impaired," he said.

Coleman said he believes she may have a mental health issue. When he met with Chambers, he said, she gave "inappropriate answers" to his questions. He also said she had a "flat affect" when reacting to his description of the car crashing into the parade.

"Her answers to my questions were inconsistent, but more importantly the look in her face. There is a very blank, almost lifeless look in her face," Coleman told reporters.

Upon booking, Chambers said she had a history of suicide attempts. She told staff she was suicidal at the time of the incident, but not at the time of booking, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The document also said Chambers had been treated for "mental health related issues" in the past, a fact her lawyer confirmed. Coleman said mental illness runs in his client's family.

He told reporters Sunday that "there have been warning signs coming from Ms. Chambers for quite some time, for the past few years."

Coleman wouldn't elaborate on what he meant by warning signs.

'Utter shock'

According to both her lawyer and father, Chambers had spent some time at a mental health facility in Wagoner, Oklahoma.

"They had her for a couple of weeks, and they released her, and said there's really nothing else they could do for her. So I took her to another place when she got out of there, and basically the same thing," said Floyd Chambers.

He told reporters his daughter was good at hiding her problems because she didn't want the family to worry.

"She may have problems, underlying problems that I wasn't fully aware of, but we're going to address that," he said.

On Monday, Chambers' boyfriend, Jesse Gaylord, also spoke to reporters. He said he couldn't comprehend what would have caused his girlfriend to drive into a crowd.

He guessed that perhaps she had a medical issue. He also said, "She doesn't handle stress well."

"I would imagine she is just, like, in utter shock and doesn't even know how to process what's going on," he said.

Chambers' next court appearance is scheduled for November 13.

Here's a recap of what happened and an update on some of the victims:

Festive OSU fans

"America's brightest orange." The proud slogan of Oklahoma State University well describes the scene of the crowd lined up on a street, decked out in orange jerseys to cheer their team on against the University of Kansas Jayhawks.

For many, it was a family outing with children in tow. And fans were hopeful for OSU's undefeated Cowboys, nationally ranked No. 10 by USA Today's Coaches' Poll.

The mood couldn't have plunged more dramatically in an instant.

Sudden impact

Out of the blue, a car plowed into the masses after bouncing off a parked police motorcycle. From a distance, fans saw the car punching into the crowd.

"I can't describe it any more clearly than this: people flying in the air," OSU graduate student Paul Sims said.

Student Kailey Carter saw the car coming and tried to sprint. It knocked her airborne.

"The car hit me as it was stopping, and then I flew over some strollers," she told CNN affiliate KJRH, holding up a bandaged left wrist.

Geoff Haxton stood about 100 yards from the crash site watching the aftermath.

"All there was was smoke and panic. Half the emergency personnel in the county were here," Haxton said. "People were running. (My) first instinct was to get my kids away from the street."

The victims

Madison Atwell, 7, survived the lunging car with six broken ribs, a concussion and stitches, her family said.

Her aunt, Julie Franklin, said a woman at the scene pushed Madison out of the way. The car took the woman's life instead, Franklin said.

Among the four dead were Marvin Stone, 65, a retired OSU professor and researcher, the school said. His 65-year-old wife, Bonnie, also died. She had worked for the university for more than 30 years.

The 2-year-old boy who died was Nash Lucas, the son of another OSU employee, Nicolette Strauch, who survived, the school said.

The fourth person killed, Nikita Prabhakar, 23, was visiting Stillwater. She was an MBA student at the University of Central Oklahoma, her school said. Prabhakar was originally from Mumbai, India.

Worried loved ones

At a local hospital, Mark McNitt kept vigil with family on Sunday as loved ones waited to hear the results of surgeries and medical tests performed on the severely injured.

His stepfather, Leo Schmitz, 54, was one of the four clinging to life in critical condition.

"It's been a crazy 24 hours," McNitt said, tearing up. A day before, Schmitz was standing by his side at the parade.

"All I remember is a gush of wind, and then the sound," McNitt said. Then chaos broke out as if a bomb had gone off.

He was thankful for the doctors' work and the care that people from across the state have shown. "We feel the love, and we'll get through this," he said.
