Every once in a while - usually in the same genre - I'll see two films that, while they may be about completely different things, and made by different directors, stylistically they match up excellently, and sort of fit together despite not having any similarity in terms of story.

One example of this would be Batman89 and The Crow. Obviously, The Crow had nothing to do with Tim Burton's Batman, but in terms of art direction and style, they're very alike, and seem like two movies that you'd want to watch back to back. Another example would be Batman Begins and V For Vendetta - completely different stories - but sort of similar presentation of those differing stories.

So my question is, what are some other movies that fit like this? Not sequels, or prequels or anything like that, but movies that have nothing to do with each other, but still, somehow, fit.

Wrong forum, foolio!! Yeah, but that's only cuz during the rise of those films other films were ripping them off. Recently, we've had hits like the Matrix trilogy and with rip offs like Aeon Flux, Equilibrium, and every other movie that has used bullet time and leather all at the same time.

Film that are too similar to each other, even thought they don't have the balls to admit they are remakes:

-Spilerberg's "War of the Worlds" = "Independence Day" meets "Signs"

-"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" = the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy meets "The Wizard of Oz"

-"28 Days Later" = "The Omega Man"

-"Slither" = "Night of the Creeps"

-"The Island" = "THX 1138"

-"XXX" = every single James Bond movie ever made

-"Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over" = "Tron"

-"Bloodrayne" = "Blade"

-"The Exorcism of Emily Rose" = "The Exorcist"

-"Click" = the Goosebumps episode of the same name

-"Scooby-Doo" = "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (the TV series)

-"Serenity" = "Battlestar Galactica"

-"Flightplan" = "Red Eye"

-"Hellboy" = "Angel"

-"Sin City" = "Pulp Fiction"

-"The New World" = Disney's "Pocahontas"

-"Sky High" = "The Incredibles" meets "Gen 13"

-"Monsters Inc." = "Aaah! Real Monsters"

-"Sahara" = the Indiana Jones trilogy

I'll give the stylistic connection between LWW and LOR, as they are based on fantasy novels, but a remake? remember that Lewis predated Tolkein by 4 years in publishing terms, and as these are adaptations...

So much of this list is invalid, it's not even funny! The New World is a remake of Disney's Pocahontas?!?! They both based on historical events! And Hellboy's based on a comic that was created five years before Angel was even created!!

I'm talking MOVIEWISE

Regardless of source material, MOVIEWISE, "the New World" is just a live action version of "Pocahontas".

And the whole premise of "Hellboy" (creature from hell with a good heart seeks redmption by fighting demons and evil gods with the help of a superhuman brunette and a smarmy British know-it-all) has already been done in "angel", which actually came out BEFORE the Hellboy MOVIE.

Same with "The Chonicles of Narnia". The "Lord of the Rings" movie came out first.

And come on:

evil, dark witch dressed in white that controls an army of demonsand rules a portion of the fictitous land? Saruman

fictitous medieval land where mythological creatures outnumber humans? Middle Earth

a group of mischievous young people that are the protagonists of the story and are relatively normal when compared to all the others? The Hobbits from the Shire

messianic demigod that is respected by all the good guys and comes back from the dead? Gandalf

He said stylistically, do you even know what that means?

trying to go past talisman's "peculiar" posts....

The Royal Tenembaums and Amelie are stylistically connected, both have very distinctive stories, but the photography style, narration devices, artistic direction and overall designs are very similar

although they are completly different movies and the color motifs they use are different, Tenembaums having more sober, mild colors and Amelie working with brighter hues

Jodorowsky's Holy Blood and Finch's Fight Club, I really can't explain it, but you have to watch them, they're linked in more ways than themes

My Own Private Idaho and Brokeback Mountain, truth be told, I haven't seen either, but it's obvious

I'll think of others later

But that's kind of the point of source material, you CAN'T disregard it! Just because a movie comes out after another movie doesn't mean it's remaking that other movie that came out first. That second movie is still being made based on material that more often than not, predates the examples you've cited!!

The New World is a live action version of Pocohantas?!?!? The Disney cartoon?!?! The company with an endless stream of bastardized retellings of fairy tales and historical events?!? No, Pocohantas is a romanticized animated dramatization of a historical event, that leaves out huge chunks of someone's life story, replacing it with songs and talking animals, for the purposes of making a kid's movie!

-Spilerberg's "War of the Worlds" = "Independence Day" meets "Signs"
If anything this should be the other way around, War of the Worlds has been around much longer

-"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" = the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy meets "The Wizard of Oz"
TLTWTW was published before LOTR

-"XXX" = every single James Bond movie ever made
I don't think XXX ever tried to shy away from the fact it's roots came from 007

-"Scooby-Doo" = "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (the TV series)
Scooby-Doo came out first, in fact there are jokes throughout the series about the Scooby gang

-"Serenity" = "Battlestar Galactica"
The original Battlestar was first

-"Hellboy" = "Angel"
Comic came first

-"Sin City" = "Pulp Fiction"
Comic came first

Just thought I'd correct a few of these.

Well, the new BSG might owe some of its sylistic approach to Serenity. The outerspace scenes are ver similar. The documentary style zooms and whatnot. But wasn't there some of that in Babylon 5, anyway?

These Sin City and Pulp Fiction comparisons are way off.

They are nothing alike...at all.

They both have Bruce Willis, the similarities end at about right there

Tron + Dark City = The Matrix Trilogy

Star Wars Saga / Batman Begins = V For Vendetta

V For Vendetta - money = Equlibrium

Star Wars Saga = 1984 + The Ten Commandments

Resevoir Dogs + money = The Usual Suspects

(Woodstock + Forrest Gump)(Amelie- The Royal Tennenbaums) = 24 Hour Party People

anything else:confused:

ANACONDA + RED EYE = SNAKES ON A PLANE

Dark City and The Matrix

The Wachowski's lifted quite a few things from "Dark City" for "The Matrix", some more blatant than others. It was no coincidence that their film was so stylistically similar to "Dark City".

I will say next:

At nowadays movie industry has enough very talented filmmakers. They show their vissual view in their movies. But especially in present time with CGI and new technology of vissual effects everything looks better and amazing for you. Vissual world is so reach and excellent made in most of very good movies. Usually directors put there their intersting views and styles, what is very intersting for viewers.
