There were rumors a while back of a Namor movie coming out & that they wanted it to be a an epic picture underwater. Its been years since that rumor or buzz & we've not heard anything else or an update on it. Is it still in coming or stuck in "developmental hell"??? Who would actually want to see it on the big screen??? Opinions?

I'm down with a Sub Mariner film! I think if Ant-Man gets made, and is a success we will start to see a ton of less popular character films coming out. And people will go see them because of Marvel studios building track record quality productions. Ant-Man, Sub Mariner, Black Panther, Dr. Strange Etc... and maybe also appear in Avengers Sequels.

Universal HAD the rights to Namor, but I think they have gone back to Marvel.
I remember it being described as STAR WARS underwater, so I hope someone does something with it soon.
Maybe once CAPTAIN AMERICA is out, we will get a Namor origin movie that at least takes us up to WWII.

Yeah, it would make sense since he along with Cap were fighting Nazis during WW2. Hopefully it will get the greenlight soon.

Creating believable underwater scenes should cost a lot of money, so I don't think Marvel will make Namor movie before the success of more conventional super heroes. Dr Strange, Ant Man or some Marvel branded film will need to be profitable first before Namor.

I predict the Marvel movie project sequences are like below:
1. Ant Man (100 M)
2. Dr Strange (100 M)
3. Black Panther (100 M)
4. Namor (100 M)

3 & 4 are interchangeable because 3 has as much risk as 4.

They'd really need to go all out with making the underwater world look good. Making Asgard look cool would be child's play by comparison. We're talking near-Avatar level of new world building. I expect them to use plenty of the dry-for-wet technique that we saw very briefly in FOTR(Sam drowning). It could be like The Abyss but without being all encumbered by diving suits and submersibles. But I think they'll hold off on it until they get more big hits under their belt.

Bring on Namor & Atlantis!

The most recent Kevin Feige interview once again teases us with the possibility of a Namor movie, and I'm thinking we might actually have it before 2015.
The next Comic Con is happening right as Captain America hits theatres, the reviews will be in by then and they'll have at least the first day numbers, and if it does as well as Thor then I expect we'll get concrete answers for what is next in line.

A Namor movie could be an opportunity for Marvel/Disney to create a really stunning underwater saga, not too many of those I'd say. I say go for it.

We even asked about Captain America’s “Invaders” group that appears in his WWII storyline, but Feige said it doesn’t sound like there’s much of a plan there at all despite a small pocket of fans who would love to see that era revisited. “We sort of [pause], touch-upon them in ‘Captain America,’ he said somewhat gingerly, “So right now, there’s nothing yet. We’ll see how Cap does,” he smiled.
Not really sure what he's implying, of course. There was another interview, don't remember where, where he mentioned something like "a city under the sea" as a possible concept you'd see in a film down the line. I think we can be pretty sure that the blip in the ocean on the SHIELD map in Iron Man 2 was almost definitely intended to be a Namor reference.

Namor's a tricky character, not that I don't think they could do it after they made Thor work. I would be extremely impressed if they went back to Captain America's WWII period just to introduce their weird aquatic Superman.

I was thinking this as well. Maybe Cap does spend a period of time an Invaders type team and its only touched upon in TFA leaving the full story for a sequel.

Namor could work like Thor. Maybe he's very arrogant to begin with but learns some humility when stranded on the surface world and saved by a surface dweller. I wouldn't mind even seeing him battle the original android (not the phone platform) Human Torch.

I suppose it would have similarity to Thor, except that maybe if he falls for a human female, he can bring her back to Atlantis to visit his world (whereas Jane Foster never visited Asguard). It might be a problem for the woman breathing under water though, but I'm sure they can find a solution.

Wait a second.
When did Namor ever stop being a dick? Seems to be as big apart of him as Wolverines claws.

Boy, now that I think of it, he is going to be a hell of a character for them to tackle!

Maybe they should get someone like Zachary Quinto. He's already played a villainous character like Sylar in Heroes, and can start off a bit like that, but then tone it down to be more like how he was when he was slightly more anti hero, or like Spock in the new Star Trek, where he was still a bit arrogant. That's the only way I can see how to play him without completely changing his character but still growing: going from super dick to average dick.

That's a good very casting suggestion. Whenever I tried to cast Namor I always thought of Jude Law, but Zachary Quinto is an excellent choice.

I don't think rehashing the same formula done in Thor is the best course of action. Leave out the romance part if possible, because that's more of an Aquaman thing.

Namor is about daddy hate. He despised surface people because he was told by almost everyone his human father raped his mother and probably killed his grandpa. His eventual (and probably last) meeting with his daddy changed almost all of the hate but he's still bound by Atlantean code to guard the underwater kingdom even to the smallest surfacers incursion. Namor is also not the sole inheritor of the realm because he's not an Atlantean pure breed so we might get an ancient Roman Triumvirates intrigue down below.

I absolutely love the Quinto suggestion, can't remember if he was a good actor though, does he have leading man chops?

I would love to see it. The underwater world would look gorgeous if they took the time to do it right. Namor is also someone who can do some visually impressive things, and he's got an interesting backstory.

He's definitely a good enough actor, and to play someone like Spock would require a person to be able to seem regal and dignified and quite articulate. He's certainly more like Namor than Nimoy was (I've heard people suggesting him in the past just because of the pointy ears). I would've gone for Quinto regardless of Star Trek but based on his work in Heroes.

Besides, as a leading man, you don't want someone too likeable or your standard leading man like say, Chris Pine. Namor has to come off as rather arrogant and almost a villain. Quinto already gives off that vibe and people will know him as Sylar so he'll be a familiar face.

I know this might irritate some, but I remember that people thought that The Rock would be good for Namor. Of course you have this misconception that wrestlers don't know how to act, but The Rock is pretty good at what he has been in. I think he could pull it off beyond the look. In terms of looks he would make an awesome Namor, but I think he could play the part well too.

The Rock is a bit too big for Namor, who needs more of a swimmer's build. Also, the Rock is too much of a heroic leading man. Why Quinto would be good in the role is because he looks more of a villain and you would already think he is a complete dick, whereas with the Rock you'd feel he is putting that on.

whoever makes their movie first marvel or dc the other will seem like a rip off of the other to the GA. so someone needs to make their underwater king movie first.

^ My vote goes to Namor. :hehe: But he is back with Marvel right?

I'd love to see a Namor movie. I've seen a bunch of people calling for Dwayne Johnson to take the role but I think a guy like Manu Bennett would be a much better choice.

Anybody who has seen him in Spartacus knows the guy can act and IMO looks a lot like Namor right out of the box.
