I ride the subway on a dialy basis and I'm continuously baffled at how people can be so oblivious. if you're on a crowded subway for god's sake take your backpack off so that there's room for other passengers.

if you're on the escalator, don't just stand there. it's not a ride. in Toronto we have signs posted that say 'Walk Left, Stand Right' but it's as if no one adheres to them. I've missed many a train due to people standing on both sides and blocking anyone who may be in a hurry.

At first I thought you meant the restaurant, and I was going to say: "Because it's Subway?"

The backpack thing bugs me too. I live in DC so we have tons of tourists on it all the time... and they're so worried they'll miss their stop (even if it's 10 stops down the line) that they stand right at the door making it hard for people to get in and out.

As for the escalators. I just say "ExCUSE me" loudly and people get embarrased and move.

yeah it is, thats why they move. if you want to walk the stairs then do it. i dont see why i cant just stand there.

I've had a few altercations on the subway.
Some lady pushed passed me in a car and I went off on her in front of everybody.

We got into an argument, she called me a dumbass, and then I called her a horsehumping *****

I get pretty mad, because I really go out of my way to be polite to strangers everywhere and I like to be shown the same respect
