Suicide Squad: General Discussion and Speculation - Part 1

This show how WB is willing to make their CBM the best ever. They really take those movies seriously. No more kid games.

this movie IMO can succeed and fail through the dialoge between the team. if that is not good if WB will mess up the editing than this can be a bad movie.

i hope Will Smith will not bring to the set his ''writters''. yeah that happened. :cmad:
Smith isn't in a position to assert that kind of control anymore. And WB aren't going to ruin their DCCU to plicate a star whose career is in a slump.

Hell of a cast you got there Mr. Ayer! :wow:

Leto better have the green hair/beard combo. :argh:

Of all the Warner Brothers films, this is easily my favorite.

Yes, when DC/Warner announced their slate, this film was the one that interested me most. (Well, after the Justice League films)

Watch the TASK FORCE X episode of JLU and then get back to us.

Absolutely...one of my favorite episodes!

From Eh Maybe....

Speaking of SUICIDE SQUAD, they're still looking for 2 large physically imposing guys.1 Black, 1 Latin guy. Both around 35-40 years of age

IF true...Bronze Tiger? Black Manta?

I think Will Smith would be better as Rick Flagg and Tom Hardy as Deadshot.

This was actually what I was expecting.

Marvel needs to make a Thunderbolts movie to counter this.

For those of you who care, I'm one of the people who are still wondering how Harley Quinn will fit in SS. I concede that popularity wins over still unpopular opinions. I guess if they make her a military psychiatrist or at least a bit of background in martial arts / hand-to-hand combat then maybe it will be more believable. A civilian psychiatrist turned serial killer just doesn't belong in a black ops team. And no giant mallet please! This is not the comics nor the animated series! That will be just stupid.

Aside from that I'm all in, just like WB is. Will Smith as Deadshot is brilliant! Deadshot is probably the only character in this ensemble who is actually an anti-hero. And between Rick Flagg and Deadshot, who do you think is the cooler character? Rick Flagg is a straight up hero. The rest of the squad are just villains. Amanda Waller is both hero and villain which is awesome!

I think Luthor will be in the background either as the target (to steal from) or the reason the squad will have their mission (manipulator). Most likely the Joker will have a cameo or the squad will break him out of Arkham. Making this as some sort of heist movie will also work!

And how crazy is it that we will have the Enchantress? If they don't show Wonder Woman have slightly magical abilities in BVS, they will show it here in SS. Which begs the question: How do you restrain a magic user? I hope the Red Room will be mentioned somewhere. Thing is WB will beat Marvel in introducing magic to their comic book movie universe. (And Thor/Asgard is not magic, its technology. When Fitz fixed the restraining collar Sif brought to restrain their Enchantress on Agents of SHIELD, that conclusively says its tech. Because how does a tech guy fix magical artifacts?)

I still rank JL higher in my most anticipated but this is certainly right up there with it!

With this roster of characters for the movie, they've got quite a neat cross-section of DC characters from across the numerous DC series. We have:

Rick Flagg -- non-villainous heroic type often seen in Justice League stories
Deadshot -- Batman villain/anti-villain
Joker -- Batman villain
Harley Quinn -- Batman villain
Captain Boomerang -- Flash villain
Enchantress -- Supergirl villain/anti-villain, with magic to boot

Quite a diverse lineup.

Well lets see here...

Joker: Highly dangerous and unpredictable psychopath who has evaded death on multiple occasions, formidable combatant, chemical expert.

Harley Quinn: Highly dangerous and unpredictable psychopath, skilled combatant.

Rick Flag: Super soldier, skilled in multiple forms of combat, born leader.

Enchantress: Highly skilled sorceress, can heal herself, teleport and walk through walls.

Boomerang: Throws boomerangs.

Yeah, I'd say there's a pretty good shot he bites it.

There is a reason captain Boomerang survives while villains way more powerful than him don't.

Throwing a variety of Boomerangs is no more silly that Batman throwing batarangs.

Captain Boomerang is potentially one of the characters who could steal the movie. He is by far one of the most entertaining villains in the Suicide Squad comics. Cap is the guy you love to hate.

Boomerang has been on multiple version of the team, and always survived. And Deadshot/Waller are the closest things that this franchise has to main character. So I doubt that any of them, or Harley, will bite it. Enchantress might be the odd one out, given that she's much more obscure and played by a mostly unknown actress. However, she was also in Justice League Dark of awhile, so maybe there's a chance that she'll pop up in Del Toro's movie (assuming that it ever gets off of the ground).

Hell of a cast WB has got there.
WB definately is showing that they are going for the big talents.

However i'm hoping that this isn't a case of another movie costing 200 million or more. Having these actors attached means a good chunk of the budget has already gone into their salaries. Hopefully they can manage to control their budget.

I'm all for a good movie but i'd hate to see a movie not getting a sequel due to "underperformance at the boxoffice".

I don't think that any of the actors would command huge fees, except for maybe Smith and Oprah if they get her (assuming that they don't wave their usual fees and take less money that is).

Leto, Hardy, Spencer, and Davis are respected actors in the community, and on the internet. But they're not quite household names yet.

Robbie has had one role that's been really acclaimed, but she's hardly A-list YET.

Courtney gets, mixed opinions and his previous filmography is also mixed.

Cara is a real unknown.

From Tumbler.

Pretty cool.

^^Smith is the only one who looks exactly like his comic book counterpart. :rimshot:

The Deadshot/Flagg animosity was always a pleasure to read in the comics, I'd love to see what kinda chemistry Will Smith and Tom Hardy will generate in recreating that.

Seeing Harley and Joker in this movie gives me hope that we could possibly see members of the bat family down the line.

I'm just so happy that WB has finally taken the plunge and gone all in with their DC properties. Finally they are gonna take advantage of the gold mine they've been sitting on.

The casting is too big for an August release IMO, they need to find the film a better summer date or move it to November.

100% What I'm hoping for as well.

Well there are still those "Jena Malone is Robin" rumors, so we'll see.

I think Leto would be the most expensive hire for WB. He's A-list, hot off award wins, and is selective with roles. There also aren't many actors with his acclaim that would dare to take on the role of Joker.

Smith and Oprah couldn't ask for much because the movie doesn't rely on their fame and they aren't in much demand. These comic book roles are quite rare in Hollywood so the demand is more on the studio side.

I don't think WB will follow the "summer is the only best time to release a movie trend" especially now they have a lot of movies in the line up. they can always release a movie any month. plus summer is getting crowded already, the movie might be big but with more competition you'll still earn less.

Oprah is in this? Is she Waller? I'd be confident in saying Will Smith will be getting paid substantially more than any other cast member.

She isn't cast yet, but is primary actress they are considering for the role of Waller.

The other two are Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer.

I didn't say she was.

Smith has done how many movies in the last 5 years? And only Men in Black 3 did well. Not to mention there are several rising black male actors now, and WB just gave Cyborg to a complete unknown.

Smith doesn't have much leverage on this movie especially when it's an ensemble. He's not going to get paid substantially more at this point in his career.

Will Smith and Margot Robbie are starring in WB's Focus movie together. There's probably a picture deal in place rather than getting paid a lot for SS.

I do wonder if he's aware of the fact or does he delude himself that he's still as important action star as he used to be.

Somehow I get the feeling that they often have to remind him that he's not.
