Suicide Squad: General Discussion and Speculation - - - - - - - - - - - Part 28

The DCEU may not be perfect, but it's the only one we have right now. People hate it right now, but they don't realize that if they shut the DCEU down, we won't have these movies and characters anymore for the next couple of years at least.

I love the MCU, but I would also like to have a CBM diversity when I go to the cinema. And I prefer to have those DC movies than not to.

And I am really wondering how many of the people who protest and hate here right now, will panic if WB announce a shut-down of the DCEU?

Right now, I'd be quite pleased if they announced a shut down for the DCEU. Then, hopefully in a few years they could come back to it... and do a good job, having learned some lessons.

As a lifelong DC fan, I'd rather have no DCEU than a bad one.

Really? I didn't like BvS but I'm grateful for Gadot's WW and Batfleck. If they keep trying, they will get it right. I just don't understand why, if critics are right about Squad, WB people are not learning from their mistakes.

Yeah it's not like people are not invested in the characters or anything, I hate Snyder Superman but you can bet your life that everytime news about it pops up I will read it because of my love for the character Superman which is bigger than Snyder or Cavill. And I guess you get curious mixed in with a bit of hope that just maybe the next outing might do it.

I've seen this line of reasoning before but I can't wrap my head around it.
Yeah I get being a fan of the characters but if you're this adamant against what WB is doing 3 movies in, it seems strange to be that passionate about hanging around for the next installment. Because the language used to describe the current product means it'd take a 180 degree change to be a good sign of change.

But hey, do what you want. I can't say that if I were in your position(not liking the direction these movies are going) I wouldn't do the same thing.

Going to see this today, I'll give my thoughts of it afterwards

Precedent.

MoS reviews very average, is a very average film. BvS reviews poorly, is a poor film. And so on and so forth. There have been no movies this year that I've seen that are much different in quality to the majority of reviews I've seen beforehand.

While I will wait till I see the film to form my opinion, it'd be idiotic to just ignore the scores of reviewers, when precedent says that they're a pretty good gauge of a film's quality. QED.

MOS - average reviews. I love it.

BvS - Poor reviews. I like it

Precedent tells me that I will probably like Suicide Squad. :yay:

As a life long DC fan, I would never want to rob another DC fan of their enjoyment for this particular DCEU. That is selfish to wish it gone just based on your own views. It is worthy of existing. It may not be great, but plenty of folks love it. We will get good films that more people will like eventually. I don't like BvS but my good friend LOVED it, he adores it. I want the series to continue for people like him.

Let's not give up just yet. Or just let it run it's course like the Schumacher era. In retrospect I'm happy that occurred, I enjoy those movies for what they are and it lead to better things. I don't want this DCEU to come to an instant halt leaving loose ends(Like the amazing Spider-Man series) until it's exhausted every option to make it WORK. We still have plenty to look forward to including Wonder Woman and Affleck's solo Bat-Film. Those have WAY better shots at actually being good.

They can start fresh years from now.

It's a question of do you want something to merely exist, or do you want it to actually be worth existing? For a lot of us this entire project hasn't been worth the time, energy and money.

and for many others... it has.

There are parts of this universe that I love... and parts that I absolutely hate. The parts I love are strong enough to let me see it through until the end. Affleck's Batman, Ezra's Flash and Gal's Wonder Woman are enough for me. Harley looks great and I hope I like Suicide Squad. I haven't jumped off the boat yet, even though BvS tempted me.

If I don't like Justice League then I will want it to end. It all hinges on JL for me, and basically this whole universe hinges on JL.

I am waiting for more opinions on people on this website who have actually seen it.

Right now, it's just a mess of bias and prejudice in here.

If the box office isn't there, it will stop dead like the AS series did. We're definitely getting WW and JL next year, but I'm not expecting any solid further DCEU movie announcements any time in the near future.

Three rotten movies already. Two more and it's dead. And rightfully so if that's the case. As a DC fan, I want justice done to these characters. I'd rather have nothing than ****.

True.So far most of the youtube reviewers and the comicbook fans have liked this movie, and the general consensus is that its good but not great. And thats what I expected from a suicide squad movie.Hopefully my opinions will also align with them,or even better :)

There's a few of us that have like myself, check out the review thread.

And that's great for you, but the problem is this isn't a series that has been handled with the care needed to fully reach its potential. It started sloppily, and has only gotten progressively worse. For people like me it's not good enough for this simply to have been made, it needed to be worth something. Seeing Batman and Superman together for the first time should have been something amazing, instead 75 years of build up crashed and burned on arrival, and what should have been one of the most anticipated movies of all time in JL has been reduced to grovelling to fanboy bloggers simply to generate some positivity. And now with Suicide Squad it's another kick to the balls. The Dark Knight trilogy is going to have a lasting legacy, as will the MCU, at the rate it's going the DCEU will only ever be remembered for it's failings, and as a DC fan that's not good enough. No, this hasn't been worth it.

The Box Office will be there. That's why I mention that it all hinges on Justice League. If that severely underperforms there will be problems. By the time that comes out Flash, Aquaman and maybe even Batman will be deeply under way in some fashion. It's not going to suddenly stop like you're mentioning.

All WB needs is Wonder Woman or JL to be a critical and BO hit. One could even reach a billion and the train will continue unfazed. Suicide Squad isn't going to bomb. it will make numbers similar to BvS so these movies will continue for the time being.

No reason for them not to yet, and it will disappoint many people if it stops. Many more than Spider-Man did.

May I ask at what point would you give up?

If WB closes current DCEU, it will start with Batman and make movies only with Batman characters.

My GA friend also love DCEU right now. While I like BvS TC, he like it more than I do. He even imitate Batfleck's voice in several occasion and humming WW's riff.
He hunted DCEU director's and actor's movies. He have a crush for Gal Gadot and Margot Robbie.
While blissfully unaware about 'fan war', DCEU's stigma online etc. He didn't care about DCEU's RT scores either.

And personally, I love DCEU actors already. :funny:
I'm liking what I've seen from WW and JL so far, still excited for future DCEU movies.

And yes, DCEU reboot will happen someday, eventually.

I actually agree with most of this, though I feel Man of Steel was a great start. I'm just far more optimistic and a less selfish fan. I know for a fact that many people love this universe and I simply want the universe to continue to some sort of an end. If it has to end with JL than so be it, but I'm hopeful at least one of them will be GOOD. Thats all they need.

I'm just looking for positives within this universe that keep ME going. There is enough at this moment, to keep me interested. We can't reverse time and fix mistakes, so we need to roll with them and strive toward improvement. I STILL see potential. Until I don't, I will support it in the theaters.

If you don't see the potential than thats great! Let THAT be your deciding factor in not spending the money on it. Not other peoples opinions. Just don't see how anyone could be personally actively excited for something... and then suddenly loose all interest in it without seeing it.

Who cares if Sony immediately rebooted Spider-Man ?

This is different situation, how many Spider-Man movies have been made till date? Five ?

But we have not seen even One movie with DC characters like Flash, Aquaman, WW. This chance (Flash, Aquaman) will be lost if they do a reboot as WB will Not be taking financial risks second time.

Never!!!!!
