What I'm really wondering is if Mel will sign on to Squad 2 given that it's officially an Oscar winning franchise.
I think the makeup team fully deserved it, I don't care if I don't look "Cool" for not jumping on board the haters bandwagon.
Seems like there are extra knives out for Suicide Squad right now.
I don't know why, though. As much flack as the DCEU gets, they should at least be able to enjoy this by itself. It's Makeup, not Best Director or Acting. It's Makeup. Minor as it may be, it's still an achievement on a film where one of the main criticisms and things people paid close attention to were the character aesthetics and designs.
It was a risk that ended up paying off in ways larger than expected, in a film that was still critically lambasted all around. And despite that, it still pulled off an unexpected win. For all of Suicide Squad's flaws, and there are plenty of them, even if I do like the Extended Cut, the Oscar is still a big deal in the context of all the behind the scenes shenanigans this film had to endure during production.
The #SQUAD team coming to the Oscars to accept their trophy all like:
The reactions are glorious. POW, right in the kissah!
Wow, came straight from the Lounge. What an achievement. I have my fair share of problems with the movie but I'm glad that it got recognized by the Academy for it's outstanding work in the Hair & Make-up department. The team deserves applause for it's efforts.
the amount of salt is beautiful!!!!
Because certain movie universes have gone 20 plus films without winning even a technical Oscar, and it took the DCEU three, and it was arguably their worst film that did it.
I'm curious how long it will take people to backpeddle on the tattoo hate.
big congrats to the hair an d make up team !!!!!!! they deserve it !!!!! I've always loved the design of the movie and the look so it's well deserved in my book.
i swear the hate online you would of thought cara delevingne took the oscar from viola davis with this reaction lol
Are you serious? Contrary to popular belief, Mel is not stupid.
Mel on SS2 :
Mel hates SH movies, and really loathed BvS in general. I'm not sure he'd want to sign on for something that is considered even worse.
I think from rumour its noted he wants to work with Will Smith if that's the case I could maybe see him doing it. I guess it depends, they're obviously discussing ideas with him to see if it's something he'd like to work on.
Mel still sounds completely out of it...
He certainly isn't. That's why I'm hopping he does take the job, because I know how capable he is as a film maker.
I really hope Mel will do it. There's something truly awesome about the director of The Passion of the Christ and Braveheart making a SS movie.
Congrats to SS for winning Best Picture.
At first, I admit, the idea of this moving winning an Oscar was appalling. It's such a bad movie. But it's for hair and make-up, which is the least of its problems, even if I did hate the Joker design. It's not like this movie won for story, direction, acting, music, editing...which were more valid reasons why this movie was horrible. So good for the make-up guys for making something good out of a turd sandwich.
If Mel did sign on then I imagine he would make a slightly more grounded suicide squad film. Probably have corrupt government officials or foreign terrorists as villains rather than ancient magical gods.
That's how SS should have been anyway. It may be entertaining, but having the squad actually go up against a threat like Enchantress and her brother is laughable.
I think it's hilarious that this movie has an Oscar.
The winning of hair and makeup is well deserved
I feel Gibson will direct SS2..
