Because certain movie universes have gone 20 plus films without winning even a technical Oscar, and it took the DCEU three, and it was arguably their worst film that did it.

I'm curious how long it will take people to backpeddle on the tattoo hate.

It's not pee-wee soccer, where everyone gets a trophy. Maybe no one considered the other ones were worthy of an Oscar.

Mel hates SH movies, and really loathed BvS in general. I'm not sure he'd want to sign on for something that is considered even worse.

Maybe he looks at it as a challenge. True artists don't play it safe. They take risks and either fall flat on their face or achieve greatness.

I think it's hilarious that this movie has an Oscar.

I think that Suicide Squad is objectively a bad movie. And, technically, I thought that Star Trek's makeup was leagues better.

I'm not salty in the slightest about the Oscar though. I've never sat through an awards show in my entire life. I find the whole "Oscar hype" to be really dumb, to be honest. Why do people care SO much about these things?

Because like it or not having an Oscar means something to the industry and within the industry. Its a mark of skill and achievement and opens doors for people in the film business.

Its the same with Pulitzer Prizes and other awards in other industries.

It depends what the award is for though. If it had been an Oscar for something of substance that really speaks to a movie's quality like writing or direction or acting, then I could understand some outrage at the win. But it's for hair and make up. The likes of Harry and the Hendersons have won for that category. It's one of the very few things SS was not hammered to bits for.

I'm late, but congrats for the Oscar.
Again, I can't understand why so many people online, attacked and bashed each other because a movie won an award for technical achievement.
Come on, one award won't diminish, undermine or threaten other movies, people, fandom etc (nor make things you liked tower over others).
But I can't say I'm surprised.

The whole situation is hilarious, I must admit. Plus, the amount of salt is enough to make my fries flavorful for years.

At the end of the day, the 'Skwad' tattoos cast/ crew had gotten were not for nothing.
Younger members of their families might ask about those said tattoos, and they could answer, "You see, I was involved in an Academy Award winning movie, Suicide Squad."

It's not perfect by any means but it is good enough to be entertaining and I think that it has enough facets to interest people to keep coming back to it.
