Suicide Squad: General Discussion and Speculation - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Part 36

I did like the Deadshot 'cut and run' scene, one of the stronger moments in the movie and the best action sequence for sure. But yeah I agree, there was nothing really jaw dropping action wise.

That scene was a crushing disappointment. Dull and unimaginative, shooting mindless monsters.

You know what would have substantially helped the movie? An innovative, impressive action set piece. The film had none. It was just fighting faceless zombies. If the movie had a set piece that made you go "WOW" like the warehouse fight from BvS or something then I think it could've seriously boosted the film's profile.

Tbh a good script could have helped, as well.

Oh for sure. This needed a total rewrite. I'm just sayin, at the very LEAST, if the movie had a standout action set piece that got people's tongues wagging then that would've been SOMETHING that could've given the movie an edge.

I just watched it for the first time. I liked it. Could have tightened up the fight scenes and Enchantress was a bore at the end, but damn, Margo Robbie, Will Smith and Viola Davis rocked it. Amanda Waller is some kind of scary s---. I don't get the rampant hate, but then I am not familiar with the majority of the characters.

I just liked it for what it showed about Deadshot, that he wasn't a coward and that there was more to him more than just him killing people for money.

That's what I've always liked about the scene. It gave a chance for the character to show another side of himself and prove what Flagg didn't want to admit: that if Floyd didn't choose to be an assassin, he wouldn't made an exponentially better soldier than him.

SS does definitely have some decent undertones flowing throughout it. The problem is just that the majority of them aren't explored and executed as competently as they should've been.

Suicide Squad novelization has been nominated for Scribe awards 2017.

I am extremely proud to announce that my novelization of The Suicide Squad has been nominated for a prestigious Scribe Award. I previously won a Scribe for my novelization of Superman Returns, and last year my Arkham Knight novel received a nomination. No matter what happens in July when the winners are announced, I can't begin tell you how proud I am to be nominated with all those other incredible writers. Thank you.

Something's telling me Suicide Squad is better than people give it credit for

What are you talking about? The low Rotten Tomatoes score is CLEARLY indicative of how bad it is as a film.

Joking aside, it is fascinating that this film is still a topic for discussion. Both this AND Dawn of Justice, despite the critical beating they received, are still films folks can't stop talking about, and for that I think they'll be remembered longer than people would expect.

Again, while I enjoyed the likes of Deadpool, Apocalypse, Civil War, Doctor Strange and such, BvS and Suicide Squad (and Apocalypse for unrelated reasons) are the comic book films of 2016 I find myself thinking about the most.

People also cant stop talking about Batman & Robin to this day...

I'm starting to think these films were just too weird for our time.

Adults in my age group...not keen on it.

However, younger folks seem to really respond to it. Its their view of these movies that will determine its longevity.

There was a time people thought The Thing, They Live and Big Trouble in Little China were crap. However, the younger generation of that time found them to be flawed, but enjoyable movies.

Will that happen for SS or BvS? Time will tell. I think Ultimate Edition for BvS will get a Watchmen like response years from now.

SS will either be a cult classic or one of those so bad its good movies for people.

Sorry for being positive and optimistic. Carry on.

Probably because their bad, and you keep on wondering what went wrong.

At a certain point in Suicide Squad, I just said to myself, "I'm bound to forget this." And outside of the regulars on this board and a couple posts every now & again, seems like most did the same thing. I don't know if I care to wonder what it'd be like if this had more prolonged discussions.

These films were competently constructed, directed and had a clear singular creative vision: John Carpenter.

Suicide Squad is a two hour Hot Topic ad. That is why it has done well with younger viewers.
