Suicide Squad: General Discussion and Speculation - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Part 36

THR says production is eyeing a mid-2018 start. If that's the case then we know it'll have one of the, as of now 3, Untitled DC film 2019 release slots.

Bat, SS2, ?Flash
Yeah, batman will take one of those spots and I think Flash will definitely be fast tracked after JL if he steals the show.
The 3rd spot...
Hard to say
Seems like they're trying to work Whedon into things by letting him work on JL, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was Batgirl
Green Lantern would be my choice over pretty much anything but I don't think It'll be that.

Suicide Squad 2 would be my last choice I think.
I definitely want it to happen but I'd rather have something that..isn't a sequel

There's definitely a good chance Lord and Miller will jump back into the Flash with their Star Wars gig falling through. There were rumors that they were meeting with DC during the hiatus while Disney figured out what they wanted to do. If that's the case, I can definitely see that speeding up the process quite a bit.

Joel Kinnaman mentioned they're shooting in 2018 a few months ago and now the SS2 director's news matches that up.

Justin Kroll said GL is not happening for a loong time =(

I think Batgirl's probably penciled in for 2020 since Whedon needs a break after JL so might start next year.

The other possibilities would be JLD, MOS2 and Shazam/BA, I think Nightwing needs to appear in multiple movies before he builds himself a big enough brand to warrant a solo movie...but I think Bat/SS2/Flash for 2019 are the most likely at this stage

I just saw the movie and wow it really was as bad as everyone said it was, if not worst. Definitely worst than BvS which set a very low bar as is. Best thing was probably Harley and she wasnt even that great. This movie was an abomination

Just watched it again. Almost every line of dialogue and supposed to be cool scene was SO cringeworthy! Like it was fan fiction written by junior high students

Joker was so stupid. Laying in the center of all these knives and baby clothes with HAHA written all over the wall, acting all "depressed" with a smile drawn on his mouth in permanent marker? Every line of his was so bad. I can't even pick the worst one "All that CHIT CHAT's gonna get ya hurt." "The one thenINFAMOUS AH-HARLEY AH-QUINN!" "This HUNKA HUNKA!" "You don't want no beef? You don't want no beef?" The laugh. Ugh. It was all SO bad. Who approved this? And I can't believe Leto even thought it was going to be good, even if they kept the scenes intact. I don't see how they could drop the ball on that character so badly after the high bar Ledger set. I think the character is salvageable, with a completely different script and director, but I wouldn't mind a complete redo of the character.

And every other joke line was just as cringey. "I need you to white peole that thang." What did they tell the writers "We need you to black people that thang". The music was so try hard. The editing was terrible, the story, the action. Even the Batman scenes were completely half assed and pathetic

I hate to be so negative about it. I'm really rooting for DCEU, I loved MoS and BvS, flaws and all. But man, it was such a let down. I feel like I could've written that script in a week or so, with the intention of making a quick, mediocre film.

"This is Katana. I'd advise not getting killed by her. Her sword traps the souls of its victims!"

Slipknot does nothing but fly off and immediately die. "Now that's a killer app." Just no thought put into it.

I'm not that big a fan of the character, but I thought Robbie was good as Harley. But still, is she supposed to be an insane sociopath, or a good person? Because it's just too contradictory. I'd prefer her character and Joker go their separate ways if she's gonna be like that

TLDR: SS = Silliness and Shenanigans

I will say I thought the bar scene was really good and some of the bonding and interaction. It's a shame because the casting, the quality of the actors, the look of the characters I thought was all on point. It could've been a really great movie. I feel like if they'd have had the courage to go with an R rating and more of a Tarantino style script, it could've been something special

Watched the extended edition today (HBO on Demand has it).....have only watched the theatrical version once back when the DVD came out....the extended version didn't really have much of an effect on me. My opinion is still the same....SS is a decent horror movie.

I watched this again recently and something stood out to me as stupid that hadn’t before :funny:

When Batman catches deadshot.
Batman comes swooping down to start **** and he says “I don’t wanna do this infront of your daughter”

:hmm

Couldn’t he just wait for a better time then?

He had to be trailing them for awhile for it to happen where it did. :funny:

I think that was the point

that he wouldn't make it harder than it needs to be to get arrested and they wouldn't have to do "it"

My point is that he could have waited until Floyd wasn’t with his daughter.

and I'm saying i think that was the point

as in he's just saying he doesn't want to do it in front of his daughter because he knows it will stop him and get to him emotionally

and they didn't end up doing "it" in front of his daughter (taking him down and subduing deadshot)

maybe i'm not being articulate enough, apologies

the "it" isn't him showing up but him actually taking him down ya know

While I didn't like Suicide Squad overall as a film, I do think that the first 2/3rds of the movie were entertaining and that there were some genuinely good moments. But that whole 3rd act end battle was atrocious and quite frankly one of the worst end battles I've ever seen in a big budget movie. It's up there with Fant4stic and I could clearly tell it was all a reshoot as well. The whole 3rd act ruined an otherwise okay movie and not even Joker breaking out Harley or Bruce Wayne's cameo at the end saved it for me. And obviously the dumb quick cuts with the ugly pink filters in the beginning, specifically during Harley's backstory with Joker, ruined what could've been really powerful scenes in the movie.

SS had so much potential to be great and I really wanna see the original version that was written and shot before the reshoots. Including the original end battle with the Joker returning from the helicopter crash and facing the Squad. The movie would've came full circle because the Joker was in the background the whole time and it felt like the movie was leading up to a confrontation between him and the Squad. Plus the whole Katana being mind controlled by Enchantress and fighting the Squad, as seen in the trailers, seems so much more interesting than the generic ****** end battle we got. Not only do I wanna see Synder's original vision of JL but I wanna see Ayer's original cut of Suicide Squad. #ReleasetheAyercut

For action-comedy it certainly did the job. BUT i do wonder. With that pryo guy supposedly now dead, if they do make a sequel, who else they will get?

How would you go about fixing this film if you could? What would you do differently? Or how would you make it better?

No flashy quick cuts with ugly color filters. No trashy tattoos and grill for the Joker. I would make Joker the main villain and not the Enchantress. I would also give Harley a much more fleshed out backstory and actually show Joker abusing and manipulating her. There also needed to be more interactions between the Squad. Show them not getting along with each other and show them actually being villains and doing villainous things.

Honestly, I would've just adapted Assault on Arkham and it would've worked so much better than what we got. Assault on Arkham was a kickass movie that used the Squad perfectly and the ending with Joker vs Deadshot and Batman vs Harley was amazing and it was what I expected the live action movie to be when I saw the trailers. They could've also introduced more Batman villains, like Riddler and Penguin, to use in future films.

Finally David Ayer revealed what that deleted scene with Joker after the helicopter crash was

"After Joker dropped HQ from the help and crashed, Enchantress made a deal with him. He was going to take Harley home and be “King of Gotham” Harley stood up to him and refused to betray her new friends. The Squad turned on him and he escaped." - David Ayer
