This DVD came out last week among the other shows, although it has hardly received any press at all. Not one of the greatest shows, but it was fun and entertaining, even though Lex Luthor is the worst actor I've ever seen. Like Freddy's Nightmares, another syndicated show from that time I've seen recently it's badly acted but entertaining.

I only started watching seasons 3 & 4 with Gerard Christopher back in 1990 and since they have never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never ever been on syndication I feel kind of guilty buying the 1st season since I've heard that it's cheesy and has corny effects.

But would you say that the show is rewatachable?

If you don't mind cheesy sure. Don't go in expecting anything of the caliber that Smallville is drama wise. The flying effects are pretty dated, and the acting at times is pretty darn bad. But I still think the show is entertaining.

Heh...I only remember two episodes from that shows run...the birth of Bizarro and the one where Jor-El and Lara(non brand name versions of Marlon Brando and Susannah York) come to bring Kal-El with them on their journey home

Some of the episodes were pretty fun such as when Superboy goes to an alernate Earth in which Superboy is an evil dictator, and that Stacy Haiduk was hot.

It's enjoyable and worth buying. The original Superboy is really good. It's a shame that he got fired for drunk driving. He's pretty funny on the commentaries. Stacy Haiduk is still very hot. She's interviewed on the special features.

good stuff, memories.. I liked Newton's performance, maybe even better than christopher's.. I didn't mind that Newton downplayed the blatant nerdiness...

So, the BIG question is how many here have actually bought it?? I picked it up this past week. They're entertaining & more people should buy them so more seasons will come out.

Only good thing about the Superboy dvd is Stacy Haiduk :D

I just ordered season 1 of Superboy. Can't wait to watch it.

I heard that Stacy doesn't like Gerard and in turn Gerard doesn't like her too. I wonder what commentaries for Season 2 would be like since I am guessing that Gerard will do most of it.

IMHO, I think Gerard is a very conceited person.

Is this out in the Uk on region 2, can't find it in any stores and on ebay its only region 1. remember watchin this as a kid. I want nostalgia! lol

That she was.

I loved this show, was one of my favourites but I have to admit some of the best episodes came from Season 2 and beyond when Gerard arrived.

I recently saw clips of this show on Look up in the Sky: The Mazing Story of Superman DVD, but I have to be honest, I don't remember this show at all. I must have been in a cave. So it ran in the early 90's? Pre Lois and Clark?

I bought season 1 on June 20 and I watched the whole episodes. That was pretty enjoyable. There is one flaw... ONE FLAW... John Haymes Newton can't fly!! Seriously, what the heck is up with his right arm while flying? He looked totally ******ed. This is not how Superman do.

I actually liked John Haymes Newton's performance as Clark Kent/Superboy, execpt flying. *rolleyes*

I heard that season 2-4 sounds much better than season 1. I'm looking forward to see it.

I bought the DVD and while I never saw the 1st season the episodes seem pretty tame and feel like live action cartoons where every thing is wrapped up in 30 minutes, Newton is cool as Clark/Superboy but it's true his flying sucks.

The fun stuff were the commentaries, Newton and Salkind really made if seem like the whole cast were a family.

I have one question, are the episodes on the DVD edited because they're really short, like barely 19 minutes?

in reality, they are actually that long... they were originally 30 minutes long with commercials in between

This show was tame, which made the torture stuff in that one episode really out there.

I'll admit Stacy Haiduk was the major reason for me trying this show out.:)

It's a really good TV show. I recommend picking it up. It may not be like Smallville, but it definitely has a nostalgic feel to it.

Just watched some more episodes yesterday. There was one with Shang Tsung from the Mortal Kombat movie as a crooked cop. Lana Lang didn't act too bright in that episode. When she's running from the cops and goes upstairs she decides to take off her boots so she won't be as loud when going upstairs, except that they have already heard her going up anyway. Then she decides to put her shoes back on during the chase, only slowing herself down more. Might as well have sounded like an elephant up there, but a faster elephant at least. Then at the end when she's running from Shang Tsung she gets stopped by two wrecked cars. Now she was running for dear life and just gets stopped by that obstacle. She could probably have squeezed between the two cars, or even better just climb over them because it was maybe a climb of a few feet. I guess as the damsel in distress she wasn't playing the chase game with a full deck.

I have seen a few episodes from the first season and while they are alright I am yet to get hooked up on Newton's flying which is plane terrible. He has this strange pose with his right arm bent towards his face, as if he is trying to hide himself. Also, it doesn't live upto the highs of Smallville drama and story lines. However, from what I remember of the show when it was aired in India back in 1998 or so, is that the episodes featuring Gerard Christopher were far more engaging, intense and action oriented, specially the ones with Bizzaro and the dwarf on an island. So, I am looking forward to the 2nd season, this one's just a little letdown.

Anyone see a young Joaquin Phoenix in the episodes? He's in the one where he plays a kid trying to impress a girl in school by taking over some computer.

Just watched that one last week. What a geeky poem.

I have never seen a minute of the show so I'm looking forward to picking it up soon and wasting a couple of days watching "new" Superman related material.

Any news on further Superboy DVD's? the rest of the series got better with Gerard Chrisopher.
