Supergirl Supergirl Season 1 Episode 10 -"Childish Things" MAJOR SPOILERS

Actually, I thought Supergirl did a great job thinking on her feet when it came to the use of her powers this episode.

Yeah well, some people gotta find something wrong, just wouldn't be right, if they couldn't find something wrong. :cwink:

There is a difference between constructive criticism and anal nit picking IMO.

And in my opinion, you're only allowed to make comments like that because you're a mod.

If you're content to just sit back and accept everything you're given, that's your business. I won't tell you how to watch the show or accuse you of being too accepting of mediocrity. I'd appreciate it if you extended the same courtesy to me.

I thought we'd moved beyond passive aggressive comments like that.

I like that you and Hunter Rider ignored the fact that I gave the episode a 7 in the poll, which clearly demonstrates that I enjoyed the episode overall.

There were some interesting uses of powers in this episode.

Toyman was certainly creepy. But, I still think the DCAU version and his constant smile top him.

Comments like anal nitpicking? Also I would check your self importance at the door, you aren't the only one that acts like that each week in this and the other TV shows threads, I was making a general comment, had I been addressing you I would have done so directly.

Rewatching the episode, a few more observations:

Hank says "This is my one chance to teach you proper flight technique." Why does he have only one chance?

When Alex comes back to the DEO after her date with Max, she talks to Hank about what he found out and what he did. She has her purse with her in that scene, so we can assume that Max overheard their conversation. :wow: If he has a GPS in that camera, he also now knows the location of the DEO.

Mata Hari. :funny:

I think thou doth protest too much.....

Really not a big deal... Which is pretty much what my posts said. But, ok...

I don't think you were meant to catch that. I doubt Max knows anything about Hank at this point. My guess is that he simply wasn't watching/recording until we (as the audience) saw him watching the sisters.

I thought the Mata Hari stuff was funny too.

He knows, because it was Hank that walked out of Rm. 52, and they have the back up camera for that, because they saw Max/Hank walk into room 52. So I think he knows that Hank is involved,(and he has met Hank, he met him in "How Does She Do It?" does he know about Martian Manhunter, probably not. YET.....

You're right, he wasn't watching, yet, when that scene occurred (he and his staff were still trying to figure out the break-in). However, I would be shocked if he hadn't set up his equipment to record everything for later review.

Also, if Hank can teleport through the door, why not just teleport into the room from a distance in the first place? I've never read the comics, so if his power is short-range only, that's fine, but it's odd that this was not explained.

for me i think some are getting very super nitpicky on powers we see in x episode. Again its all about what powers are needed for x scenes in a script. Then of course which would they have the time and budget to want to do. As its all really about time, budget and what the scene needs. If folks want to yell at any one about oh why no x ray vision, oh why no super speed in a episode that would be more on the writer of said episode and all.

Why do they need to explain it, you yourself just said that you have never read the comics, so either that is how he does it in the comics and they are going with that.....or, maybe he can do it long distance and they have chosen not to show it that way. I didn't really see it as teleporting as much as changing his molecular composition to go "through" the door.

That is what I'm I'm thinking as well....

And as far as the camera on the purse, it is possible that they didn't have the set up ready on their end until the apartment. BUT, she (Alex) says Hank/Jonn in the apartment, but I don't know how much was ever known about Martian Manhunter other than what the DEO knows.

Jeremy Jordan is a fantastic actor. The way they developed him in this episode really proved he can do more than just comedy.

I loved Hank's self-doubt of who he really is. Toyman was intriguing. Just a good old fashioned criminal. He reminded me of Trickster in many ways.

I think Winn revealing his feelings now has made things a little uncomfortable for him and Kara but I'm looking forward to see how they work together now that she knows. Since nothing is happening with James, obviously he is still with Lucy so maybe things could change.

Maxwell now knowing her secret really ups the ante in how the next episodes are going to be written. I'm thinking he's got something really awful planned, bigger than Astra if possible. Loved it! Really loving this show with each episode. Man do I wish Flash would take head and pick it up like this has.

Yup.

It was a rude and unnecessary comment. Again, you don't hear me complaining about the way you watch the show.

Also I would check your self importance at the door...
And I'd recommend that you not get so bent out of shape whenever someone has the nerve criticize the show. I like the series, in general, and enjoyed this episode, specifically. I was in the middle of a civil discussion with others before you decided to give your two cents. You can disagree with me all you like, but I'd appreciate it if you kept your snide comments to yourself.

...I was making a general comment, had I been addressing you I would have done so directly.
Of course. I must have been mistaken. It had to have been a coincidence that you pointed out the difference between anal nitpicking and constructive criticism right after I make a comment about offering constructive criticism. My bad. I'm seeing connections where there are none.

Don't give me that. We've had this discussion before. You know that you dismiss every single criticism of the show as insignificant. And that's your right. But if that's how you're going to respond to my posts, with that dismissive attitude that in no way encourages productive discussion, then just please don't.

I've said all I've needed to say on the subject.

Actually no, I don't, I've named the problems that I have seen myself.

And in this case, I actually made sure that what was being said, by you and others was not misconstrued as Trolling or Flame, when that was brought up by a poster, so let's back it up just a second, no one is "bent out of shape" here except you.

Productive discussion is fine, as long as it does not turn into a "beating of a dead horse"... other than that, not really a big deal.

At this point, I'm shipping Patty from the Flash with Winn from Supergirl. Lol. She likes the sensitive nerd type who's looking for a meaningful relationship, and he likes strong, smart, and kinda dorky hot blondes. Winn kinda looks like Barry and Patty kinda looks like Kara. :woot:.

I'm glad you realize that, and I am not bent out of shape at all, you are the one splitting up posts and getting all worked up over a one line comment I made.

Solid episode, had a horror movie feel and as a fan of horror movies I liked that a lot. They cast the Toyman brilliantly, I'm sure he will be back.

I couldn't believe the ending with Maxwell Lord, he's so good on this show. I love that they aren't rushing Bizarro-girl. Giving her some build up, I like. I have a feeling Jonn will be heavily involved in stopping her given he said he'd be back for her.

Only thing I wasn't too keen on was the Lucy subplot, yawn! I'm sure it will serve for something good in future though. A necessary yawn :woot:

The Supergirl stuff wss again fantastic, loved the FX as always and her scenes with the Toyman or when she was saving people, just wow.

I forgot to mention Winn, he was brilliant this episode. Jeremy Jotdan can act! Superb.

Overall an 8/10.

Also a shout-out to Peter Facinelli, who did a great job of playing J'onn J'onzz impersonating Max.

I dind't even know this was bck on. Just finished watchng tis ep, man is this show getting good!

When Kara was trapped in that box of quick sand, Toyman mentioned that even Supergirl needed oxygen; i've seen Superman fly into space. Is he holding his breath or is this statement just not true/inconsistant….?

Depends on the specific mythology. In the Silver Age, Supes didn't need to breathe and could exist in space (or under water) indefinitely. In more modern versions, he does need oxygen (though some allowance is made for superhuman breath holding).

It depends on the version of Superman, some he can hold his breath in space, some he needs to wear a suit to breath in space and others he can seemingly breath in space.
