Hi gang,

Been reading the forums for a while. My name is Glenn and I'm a Norwegian movie buff who currently lives in Sweden. On the occasion of Supergirl The Movie's 25th anniversary this year, and also the 50th anniversary of Supergirl as a character, I spoke to Supergirl herself, Helen Slater, on topics ranging from being a debutant, to why the movie didn't work and her plans for a Supergirl comic book.

Jump to http://news.planetorigo.com/article.php?poarticle_id=505 to read the interview now. Also on that site, reviews of Supergirl, Superman The Movie and Superman Returns.

Cool. I didn't even get around to watching Supergirl until late last year. It's an underrated movie that I enjoyed. Mainly because of the score and that Helen Slater was such a cutie.

Yes, it was a great casting decision! Too bad the movie wasnt handled better. Taken in small pieces, it is well worth watching but as a complete move it's quite annoying, IMO.

That was a fun read, thanks for posting. I loved this film as a kid and still do.

The biggest problems with Supergirl was the rubbish Argo scene (where helen slater was acting like an 8 year old), ethan (out of all kara's boyfriends what made them think HE was a good idea and true to her character?), she tells people she is superman's cousin 5 TIMES and the rubbish coincidences (lover's lane, roomies with Lucy Lane etc)

Comic writers get so much mileage out of it though, in her first modern appearance they re-create the lane scene with the pervs, there is now an 'alphahedron' on new krypton which suggests an omegahedron is about and the new writer is running with the artist idea that Zaltar suggests. Also its become a bit of a tradition that supergirl appears on earth from water, the movie was the first to do it, Jeph loeb's kara emerged from Gotham harbor and Smallville's Kara came from the Reeves Dam. Its probably the most influential movie for a comic character besides superman

It makes sense. She was a very sheltered person.

ethan (out of all kara's boyfriends what made them think HE was a good idea and true to her character?),

He has even less appeal if you recognize him as the coked-up ***hole from the first Die Hard....

Now I watched this movie I think 2 years ago, and while there where some laughable and pointless elements in there, it was fun.

Cool interview. Thanks for posting.
