Comedy Superhero Movie-Making Comedy from Armando Iannucci

The half-hour pilot is titled “The Franchise.” It follows a hopeful crew trapped inside the dysfunctional, nonsensical, joyous hellscape of franchise superhero movie-making. If and when they finally make the day, the question they must face — is this Hollywood’s new dawn or cinema’s last stand? Is this a dream factory or a chemical plant?

HBO is gonna make a show about how WB and Snyder f**ked up DC?

This is basically a dream combination of writer and material.

I think there’s been plenty of material provided by both sides of the Big Two:

Director of divisive/critically reviled films whips up his own cult and aims it at the studio
Overworked VFX artists have their work publicly trash-talked by the film’s director on opening weekend
Actress who was a key part of the franchise team-up finally gets a solo movie after a decade only to discover the studio has short changed her
Literally everything going on with Ezra right now
Etc…

Awesome Billy Magnussen should be in more stuff (imo)

I want a Peter Capaldi appearance, Armando.

It’s funny because Hulu has a show called “Reboot” which is sort of similar.

Zaslav better cameo in this, or else I don't want it.

Man, making the studio guy a cross between Feige and Whedon is sure to piss off both of those people.

Perfect.

I can't wait. Love Iannucci.

Ha, I literally just binge watched all of Spaced the other weekend so it's pretty cool to see Daisy right there in the thumbnail. This looks fun and I'm digging the cast.

As long as it's better than Avenue 5, which I thought was fine, but not Iannucci's best, and certainly not on the level of Veep.

Whoa, whoa, nobody told me that Aya Cash was in this series! Still haven't seen any of The Boys yet, more so considering that she's in it, but she was very good in You're The Worst.

Boy, its fun to identify the various bits and pieces from stories we've heard over the years.

The Toy Man, wonder who that is.

Episode 2 hit some sore spots. Really hitting Marvel in this episode.

I was gonna say, the one line about putting out too much content in one year and giving the fans too much felt like a direct callout to Marvel Studios and all the content it churned out in 2021!
