SuperHeroHype!: A Family Forum?

I still don't get why people think certain words are bad. They are words like any other, and youngsters will learn what they mean anyway.

Heck, eventually they will be using them.

Drak, doesn't seem that if enough people are upset you guys should listen?
Unfortunately, this site isn't a democracy. Small stuff, I see mods making a concession on but even if you got the entire messageboard to sign off on something, it would make diddily squat with the moderators.

ULtimately i think there is no general concensus to the way certain things are moderated.

Some things are allowed in some threads and some boards and not in others.

i mean there is a whole thread based on illegal spiderman 3 avatars and gifs and moderators turn a blind eye to the piracy.

there are people with constantly have spoilers in their avatars but if you place a spoiler in a thread title even inside a spoiler board, that is sometimes a bannable offence (even though i have seen some users do this in the transformers board and nothing been done about it).

on one hand, you can post naked pictures of celebrities taken in an artistic manner but if you showed implied sex with full body covering that's supposed to be humourous and not sexual, then that become bannable again.

again, it all comes down to a matter of taste and which moderators are looking at what at a given time and if these things are contained in a certain thread. What really needs to be done is some sort of standardisation for moderators to operate under and have this shown to hype members so they no exactly what they are dealing with.

the thing is that any moderator can go rogue with their discretion and the bigger moderators and bosses will ALWAYS back up their decisions to show they are all on the same page when reality i dont think this is the case.

i'm going to spend the next post going through gifs and pics that have been allowed onto a so called family forum. the hype should at least realise it is a mid teen plus forum in society and everywhere else is more family orientated.

edit: in all honesty, i'm not going to do a show and tell, if you want examples to the things i speak of, it's fairly obvious which boards and threads to find them in.

The thing is that anyone from age 8-88 can access this site, as there is no way to block them unless a parent chooses to do so. We rarely watch what we say or do on here, this site is pretty much akin to the real world...R rated at times, NC-17 at its worst.

well, compared to other forums I visit, I do think of this as a family forum...

Also, why is *** censored?

That's "l s p" sans spaces.

Because SHH moderators don't approve of the site.

***** and *****e aren't censored.

and rightfully so. :o

For a while ***** was... I know because at the time I wanted to post the lyrics to the ***** Cat song by Connie Vannet .

I couldn't type Allspark because of it :cmad:

EDIT: But now I can it seems.

Also, Nightwatcher is "untypable."

EDIT: Was.

This site is more family-friendly than the Rottentomatoes forums, that's for sure. You can pretty much get away with anything except actual porn there.

The Community forum is of course the most "adult" (and I use that term with some level of irony) part of the SHH boards. I can understand the editing of soft-core or explicit avatars because those show up regardless of where the poster makes a comment, even if that comment is totally appropriate for that forum (like Transformers or Spidey or whatever).

As far as actual mature content, maybe the Community forum just needs a disclaimer or a warning or something like that.

As should the Products forum, believe it or not.

Get Adblock plus, I don't see any popups on here anymore.
But the management WANTS everyone to see the ads. It's profitable for them.

So, the answer is, if you want a "soft-porn" avatar....pay pal Mirko some cash, and you can keep it.

"Decency" is delineated by profit.

Like, I'm sure people would complain if someone had an animated Gif of an old man *********ing.
But, they used to have an ad here that depicted that.

They even had an ad that showed men with no pants on, frolicking, bare-assed.
Their asses weren't even as covered up as a woman's is when she wears a thong.

BARE asses.

Since money changed hands, the management was cool with the bare asses.

A lot of this is based on personal bias as well.

If a mod likes a certain poster, they can bypass the censors and talk about very vulgar or "inappropriate" stuff day and night.
If a disliked, or "cocky" poster does the same thing, then, his posts will be deleted and he'll get a warning.

Welcome to the Hype. :)

And some of the posters here definitely should come with warnings and disclaimers :cwink:
