Well, Man of Steel is a certified blockbuster heading for ~ $300 million in the US and ~$700 million world wide. Sequel is inevitable and the word is it will bow in 2015.

Here is the issue: 2015 is CRAZY jam packed.

    A) Fantastic Four Reboot in March, B) Avengers 2 (1st weekend of May), Star Wars 7, Jurassic Park 4, Independence Day 2 (July 3rd), Terminator Reboot (June 26th), Pirates of the Caribbean 5 (July 10th), C) November has Hunger Games and Finding Dory (Nemo sequel).

December 2015 is empty, and WB - with the Hobbit and Potter films - have often placed large blockbusters in the holiday season. Could go there. I expect one of the bigger summer films already scheduled to move there - if the studio was smart, STAR WARS would explode over the Christmas season. Or Jurassic Park .

Warners currently has ZERO films scheduled, and the thing is already damn filled up so expect them to be getting on that ASAP. It legit should be a matter of weeks before we know when Superman 2 is coming and ATM, I struggle to see any great dates for it.

Both SUPERMAN RETURNS and MAN OF STEEL lost of dozens of millions, if not hundreds of millions, at the box office due to poor release date selections, lets hope they don't f this one up too.

JULY 24th seems like the only worthy summer date available, though even that is less than ideal. They wisely announced THE DARK KNIGHT RISES 2 1/2 years in advance, causing other films to flee in its wake. WB need to get the date for MOS 2 out ASAP if they want to have a somewhat similar effect.

July or Nov/Dec 2015. I agree with you too. MOS should be released in 2015 because WB has no other choice because they have no big budget movies set for 2015.

I think releasing it in the summer of 2015 is a mistake. I say this:

December 2014 = Flash (word is a script is finished)
    March 2015 = Wonder Woman
December 2015 = MoS 2 (that will give it that Avatar release date area. Lower opening weekend, but will have long long legs because nothing else of significance comes out until May - so basically 5-6 months of unopposed box office success).

Again, I think summer 2015 is basically suicide. As much as I want to believe Superman on his own is more important than Star Wars and Avengers (since I'm a Superman fan) reality is I don't think GA loves Superman more than those other properties, even though they should.

I would prefer Christmas 2015 if no major movie (Avatar 2) is being release during this time...

If it is going to go anywhere in 2015, I would say July 17th.

A July 17th release date would not surprise me at all.

I like the idea of MOS 2 going up against POTC5 in it's second weekend. Ironic. Revenge.

I like Wonder Woman, but if I don't think Superman can take on Star Wars 7 and Avengers 2 in summer 2015, I sure as hell don't think WW can take them on....Just reality

Do you think WW could beat Fantastic Four, Cinderella and The Penguins of Madagascar in March?

LOL, I didn't know those were coming out in March too. My answer is an unequivocal yes.

Call me cynical but i'm fairly confident that most of those films wont even come out at that time. FF reboot, terminator reboot, ID4 2 AND Jurassic park 4 I guarantee will either be caught in development hell or delayed. So while, yes, 2015 will still be packed because of star wars and avengers alone I don't think it'll be THAT packed and all those sequels and reboots u mentioned....I'll believe em when I see em.

Curious if Show or Jamie have an idea WHEN we will be finding out.

    I don't.

Not about who comes in #1 or #2, the total is all that matters. Pirates 5 will challenge $1 billion world wide. Superman 2 needs AT LEAST two weeks separation from it if MOS2 wants to maximize its potential. Though Superman would trump it domestically, it would likely lose anywhere from 30 to 60 million in possible domestic gross because it, very much like RETURNS missed out on a good 25 to 40 million (in 2006 dollars) due to being so damn close to pirates 2. Worldwide? That is suicide.

I would much rather quit the dick measuring contest and NOT go head to head with other big films, rather I would prefer Supes have a good 2 to 3 weeks of space away from any other major blockbusters so it can breathe on its own and actually have a chance at having good box office legs. Both in the US and overseas, MAN OF STEELs legs are being destroyed competition despite enormous openings. Had WB not been so damn foolish as to open it so close to the global behemoths that MONSTERS U and WWZ, Man of steel would be heading for the 350 domestic / 500 overas / 850m ish total. Now, it is heading for 300/400 type of max.

Forget about bragging rights and just focus on giving Superman SPACE like all of Nolan's Batman films got. Please make the 3rd time the charm. Don't completely cap Superman's box office potential by giving him a crap release date. July 24th is the only even remotely serviceable date I can see on that current schedule.

WB would have to be genuinely ******ed to schedule Superman within a week of pirates. So it will likely happen.

Giving her a March 2015 spot is kinda crappy, though. The Avengers 2 will be out on May 1, thus giving a WW film a couple of weeks before it is surely lambasted out of the Top 3 into god knows what. Surely she deserves something a little better than that. :hmm

How about she gets a 2014 winter release and The Flash just take a backseat. :p

Part of me doesn't like the idea of MoS 2 being the over-shadowed blockbuster that year. Everybody's going to be so hyped to start off the summer with A2 and then before you know all anyone will be talking about is SW7. Throw in all the chatter about the new JP etc.

We'd have to wait longer obviously but 2016 could arguably be MoS 2's year as the blockbuster.

If she gets an early March release that gives her 8 weeks to rack up the dough :yay: I think with a ~$150-180 million budget, WW could earn $450-500 million worldwide.

I also think it's harder to get a WW movie right so I'd prefer not to rush it. Flash I think is fairly simple, so I anticipate WB will move forward with him first.

Do you want any ole WW movie, or the one we deserve? :cwink:

Yep. I think December 2015 is safe because all the hype from the summer movies would have died down and people would be ready for Superman again. But releasing it during the summer is tom-foolery imho.
