Well, Man of Steel is a certified blockbuster heading for ~ $300 million in the US and ~$700 million world wide. Sequel is inevitable and the word is it will bow in 2015.
Here is the issue: 2015 is CRAZY jam packed.
A) Fantastic Four Reboot in March, B) Avengers 2 (1st weekend of May), Star Wars 7, Jurassic Park 4, Independence Day 2 (July 3rd), Terminator Reboot (June 26th), Pirates of the Caribbean 5 (July 10th), C) November has Hunger Games and Finding Dory (Nemo sequel).
December 2015 is empty, and WB - with the Hobbit and Potter films - have often placed large blockbusters in the holiday season. Could go there. I expect one of the bigger summer films already scheduled to move there - if the studio was smart, STAR WARS would explode over the Christmas season. Or Jurassic Park .
Warners currently has ZERO films scheduled, and the thing is already damn filled up so expect them to be getting on that ASAP. It legit should be a matter of weeks before we know when Superman 2 is coming and ATM, I struggle to see any great dates for it.
Both SUPERMAN RETURNS and MAN OF STEEL lost of dozens of millions, if not hundreds of millions, at the box office due to poor release date selections, lets hope they don't f this one up too.
JULY 24th seems like the only worthy summer date available, though even that is less than ideal. They wisely announced THE DARK KNIGHT RISES 2 1/2 years in advance, causing other films to flee in its wake. WB need to get the date for MOS 2 out ASAP if they want to have a somewhat similar effect.
