Over in the Hulk forums, they have a cover countdown thread for the movie, so I thought I'd set one up here because, apparently, April 15, 1938 is the date that Action Comics #1 first appeared on newsstands, according to Wikipedia anyway. Now I know Wikipedia's reputation, but just in case it is true, here's a 70 day countdown thread until April 15, 2008. Yes, I know the cover of Action Comics #1 says June, but, apparently, comics were always actually released at least a few months early, at least back in those days anyway, I don't know about today.

I was wondering when someone would get that, lol, yeah. I wanted to pick a name from the crappiest, most obscure show I could remember. It wasn't hard, lol.

LOL, hey, I'm a fan. You're right that was really obscure! the transformation were terrifying me! I like how subtle you were ; you didn't write manimal, just J.chase, and you didn't explain what it was, just wrote a piece of the catch sentence. I love that. Really you like the show or was it ironic ?

Yeah, lol, I used to watch that back in the 80's when I was about 7 or something. Funny thing is, I remember more episodes than were shown, lol.

I love these vintage covers. The artwork is so bold and iconic, and pure. It really makes me want to read those issues.

Hmm, according to Supermanhomepage, Superman birthday is today February 29...

Any way,

HAPPY 70TH BIRTHDAY SUPERMAN!!!!!

*I LOVE YOU*

The one with the racism?

Dude, the country of Japan was our enemy at the time. That's not racism, that's fact. He's clearly attacking a Japanese fighter plane. It's not like they depicted him just walking up to a random Japanese tourist on the streets of Metropolis and punching him in the face. :whatever:

So the pilot isn't a gross caricature with yellow skin and a desperate, cowardly pose?

It's propaganda, and it's racism.

Yes it is. That's exactly what it was supposed to be. "Yellow" is the color of the Japanese skin tone in the same way "white" is the color of a Caucasion. Cowardly and dsesperate? Wouldn't you be pretty damn scared and desperate if Superman landed on the nose of the plane you were flying intent on hitting you? As I said, Japan was our ENEMY. They ATTACKED US, without provocation. They were killing Americans (not to mention our allies). If they depicted him landing on a German plane attacking a Nazi, would you say that was racist? You're being racist by implying that just because the person depicted is Japanese that the white man that drew it must be racist.

Oh, please. Clearly that is a racist caricature. The only minor positive is that it's not as extreme as many of the depictions of Japanese men in comics at the time.
