Superman Director Found

 exactly

And regarding my earlier comments \S/JcDc\S/. All I was syaing before was some people are saying Jonah Nolan doesnt have the right to make a Superman film. who are we to say that?

Thanks for pointing that out, it did get lost in translation for me, at some point through multiple discussions going on. While it is understandable to have doubt in him due to it being a directorial debut, I agree it is too far to say he shouldn't have the right to do so if chosen.

If he was chosen, the WB must believe he will make the film the studio wants this time around.

Whoever directs, the studio will have more control this time. I think we can all agree they won't just pick someone and let them go at it.

I guess I just want to hear someones got the gig cause Im desperate for these rumours to be true. I want a Superman movie so badly :D

Yeah that could be a good or bad thing with the studio control, they ruined Tim Burtons Batman Franchise because of it although we ended up getting the 2 greatest Batman movies of them all as a result of that studio crap fest Batman & Robin :D

I dunno, whatever Singer said they automatically agreed with. No use of judgment whatsoever. I guess it can go too far either way.

Chris Nolan ruined the Batman films? LOL, I guess he didn't see the Joel Schumacher ones.

Ha ha!! So true.

BTW... neither does Bryan Singer, he had his chance, blew it, and deserves a big kick in the ass as a goodbye... if Jonah is capable of making an amazing film and WB seems to think so... then I'm all for it. Period.

But the thing is, Jonah could be worse than Singer in term of directing. Singer has experience, while Jonah has none at all. For all we know, his directing could be worse than how Singer did SR. That is a big gamble I don't want WB to risk with giving the director chair to a guy who has no experience at all. Anyone remeber Goyer directing Blade: Trinity? I thought so.

People said same thing about Donner, Burton, Nolan, Favs, ect.

But those guys has experience directing before doing their first superheroes films. I never seen Jonah direct any films at all. Not even just one.

.

And who was Favreau as a director before Iron Man? That one is even more interesting...

Let see.....he directed Elf (a big blockbuster & is one of the most popular Christmas film since A Christmas Story, White Christmas, & It's a Wonderful Life), Made, Zathura (that was his first big action/sci-fi film before he did Iron Man 3 yrs. later), etc. He also did some writing as well, even as far as back in 1996. Jonah doesn't have any directing experience compare to Favreau at all, so you comparing Jonah to Favreau is laughable.

I think the whole reason Chris Nolan is "mentoring" the new project is to give his brother a chance. Every director has to start somewhere. The guy has written some high profile movies and worked side-by-side with his brother. I doubt WB would've let Jonah do the movie if it wasn't for his brother. It's probably an insurrance policy of sorts. They know they can trust Chris, so as long as he's mentoring the project they're sure it won't bomb.

I can understand the approach. I hope it works out for Jonah's sake and for us fans.

Hmm.....what amazes me is the thinking that Jonah Nolan is the only studio type of director that would be willing to work with Chris Nolan as exec producer??

I find that VERY hard to believe.

Like I said before....if the case is all about having a studio controlled director who will work with Chris Nolan....then why not have Wally Pfister direct instead of Jonah? The whole thing seems odd to me.....but whatever. Chris Nolan will be the ghost director anyways I guess, so it will mainly be him running the show even if Jonah ends up with the director gig. Just seems having Jonah direct is a reach. If they want to give Jonah a shot at directing, then why not on the Wonder Woman film, or the Green Arrow SuperMax film?

Guess Chris Nolan really does have WB's by the balls right now huh? Oh well, if Jonah does get the directing gig for the Man Of Steel film, then I still hope it turns out well.

he probably isnt the only person in mind, heck we dont even know for sure if the jonah thing is actually happening. In the end if could probably go to someone else, like a marc webb or some other fresher director(dont have any other names off hand).

That I could see, infact its the one reason i could think of why Nolan would be involved with Superman.

theres one thing I really like about Nolan. He uses Wally Pfister for cinematography and he is awesome.

I hope he uses him for Superman, imagine the visuals in IMAX!

I know that would be amazing. One thing i will also like if Nolan does it he will use the actor for most of the flying scenes with very little CGI something Singer should have done.

I disagree with this. If the Nolan's and Goyer are involved in the Superman reboot, from this point foward everything connects to Nolan's Bat-universe. They're trying to build up to a Justice League movie... this is inevitable. Therefore yes, I do mean Nolan's Bruce.

Why is it inevitable exactly?

I even remember that Nolan was not happy when it was suggested that his Batman was going to be used for a Justice League movie. Both Chris and Jonah can easily keep both Superman and Batman in separate realities.

Yes, this is true. But remember: At this time Nolan was not involved with other franchises in the DCU and the JL script seemed to be awful.

But was that the actual problem? Him not being invoklved with other franchises? I was under the impresion that he didn't want to ruin the tone of his Batman mixing him with a plethora of flashy-dressed superpowered fellows.

Btw, has the JL script started to seem any less awful lately? I'm really uninformed about that project.

You know whats weird I think the first draft was actually very good but they made stupid changes and completely ruined it. I also think Superman turned evil at the end or something like that.

I love the idea of Jon doing it. We get two directors for the price of one it seems. Because we all know, Chris is not gonna sit by and have the movie be at least on the level of TDK.

Exactly

i just hope who ever ultimately ends up being in the chair will make a good film, that pleases us fans, and the general audiences, and will put the character were the studio wants it to be.

Well if Jonah is indeed the one for the directing gig with Chris "mentoring" him then why doesn't WB's just make the final directing title for the Man Of Steel be:

The Nolan Brothers.

Much like The Wachowsi Brothers, (or The Wachowski Siblings is probably more accurate now actually) :hehe:

Singer was an experienced director and the end result was definitely not what I wanted. Im not putting that much weight on that argument, and well its Nolans brother. The movie will be high quality regardless.

Well, you should put much weight on the argument, since it's a VALID argument and point.

Don't know what else to tell ya.....

first time directors are hard to track.

some can pull it off, some can't.

If it was that straightforward, Singer with all his experience glory and success would have delievered a good superman movie and he didnt so no experience does not equal quality in all cases so that does not infer a valid argument and most definitely not a sound one. People just dont want to give the benefit of the doubt because they always suspect the worse, but anyone paying attention will notice he is affiliated in team dynamics and blood to one of the best directors of our time. I dont see reason to be up in arms yelling the sky is falling. The movie will be high quality I have zero doubt.

Jonah is a big comic fan at heart. He knows what superman and batman are all about. Read his intro to Superman Batman: The search for kryptonite TPB for some opinion on what he thinks bats and supes represent, its a nice read.

We've had experienced directors already in this franchise... Tim Burton, Oliver Stone (yes... he was set to direct that William Wisher script, though everybody forgets him), Wolfgang Petersen, Brett Ratner, McG and Bryan Singer... and we're still talking a reboot... I say give it to Jonah Nolan... if he fails it's not like there wasn't a bunch of directors that failed before. But if he doesn't then he'll put a LOT of people to shame... and somehow I have the feeling it's going to be the later... :o
