Superman Reboot Writers Workshop

I've forgotten the exact make up of the list but were they mainly directors that have directed comic book films?

Angeloz

Unfair was the wrong word. The poll is perfectly fair. Impractical, is perhaps the better choice. Those directors are not viable choices for a JLA movie (save Bay and Cameron). They are simply directors who have done recent comic movies (and Cameron).
gotcha! and yeah i pretty much agree.

I see and understand your point. I myself don't put too much stock in numbers. I mean a lot of people liked Resident Evil. Hardly makes it good.

well, im not trying to say the movie is good because these numbers say its good, certainly not. im just saying, a majority of the audiences does think its good, as th enumbers tend to show.

For some folks the glass just has to be half-empty, Payaso.

...just kidding, Kak.

MORE ACTION!!!

a better faster paced story

more action

romance and a good love story with lois or a new girl that makes lois jealous

an alien villian so superman can FRIKIN FIGHT SOMEONE unlike SR!!

more ACTION!!!

don't make it so bloody looong!!

what do I as a superman fan want next...well MOS would be the first thing on my list that I would want next:woot:....I do want to see an alien villain...hopefully Brainiac....where he's presented as a merciless villain who poses a great threat along with one hell of a fight scene between him and superman...I also want to see superman and Lois finally get with each other on the big screen but not without losses and hardships...but not to the point where it repeats Smallville..and I want to see Lex Luther is a more sadistic and evil

A total REBOOT. And if it could be acomplished by a JLA movie, then so be it.

the hell with a JLA movie. unless its CGI, think about it, a live action JLA movie is ******ed, batman and robin style is written all over it.

Superman: The Man of Steel....give singer a chance, he fixed X-Men with X2, and mark my words, he'll do the same here.

I wanna see supes get his ass kicked, and kick ass. i loved Lex kicking his ass in SR, but i wanna see an all out brawl. PLEASE, PLEASE, 2 more sequels, Darkseid and Doomsday....kills supes, and end it.

Live action Superman however we get it. In the end, if that's what happens the Superman fans will still be around :o

Well, I won't be disappointed with a Singer sequel, but I kindof would prefer a reboot. But I would still like to see some Donner influence there. Not all the reusing lines and the look of Krypton and the fortress though.

For example, I'd reuse the concept of Jor-El sending something along with Kal-El that would build the fortress of solitude, and it would be sortof a database to Krypton's entire history and technology, and it would include a message from both Jor-El and Lara, not just Jor-El. Also, I would not repeat the thing with Clark spending 12 years in the fortress. I'd prefer him going to college and preparing for his job at the DP.

Another idea I had for the story of the first movie is to have Superman start out as his "truth, justice and the American way" self, having blind faith in the US and not seeing it's mistakes at first, and even having sortof a friendship with Lex Luthor as an adult. Eventually he'd realize he can't be just one country's hero and that he has to be everyone's hero.

Btw, don't misunderstand me and say I'm bashing the US. I don't like anyone having blind faith in anything. The US is a great country, but it makes mistakes too.

Speaking solely for this Superman fan……….REBOOT!!!!!

Give me an epic action adventure tale (ala Indiana Jones if you will) with locations on a global scale, not restricted only to Metropolis.

Clark Kent is not a painfully clumsy and bashful nerd/geek, but a well respected and competent top notch investigative reporter, Tho not prone to reckless risk taking (hence the mild mannered persona) he does not immediately retreat in the face of adversity. He is a courageous and forthright personality. He is in every way the professional equal of Lois Lane. Clark and Superman are of equal import to the story each playing a part according to their abilities, and the situation. There are jobs for Clark and jobs for Superman.

Lois though certainly not un-appreciative of Superman’s dynamic personality, and good looks, is not a love sick puppy. She makes no bones about her physical attraction to the Man of Steel, as she might say ......what normal woman wouldn’t be hot for Superman, he is after all a super-man. She dates other men and is not waiting breathlessly doe-eyed for Superman to notice her.

Clark and Lois make a powerful team when working to one purpose, but more often than not Lois’ compulsion to be “the” star reporter creates in her a rogue approach that disrupts the team concept. This drive to excel also causes her to take foolhardy risks. These risks do not result from a lack of intelligence, but rather from her incessant need to outdo the competition. Frequently Superman rescues Lois from the results of this risky behaviour, though Lois believes she ultimately would be quite capable of handling these situations and therefore some resentment towards being rescued often is present. (“I survived just fine before Superman.”)

Superman is just what the name implies. He is a super-man, but he is not a god-like-man. His strength and speed are amazing but not ludicrous, and the feats he performs are limited to what a man with amazing strength and speed could do sometimes finding it necessary for him to improvise and creating “super-tools” to use. He cannot lift an island and place it in orbit! He cannot turn back time. He cannot catch a plane in mid air. He cannot be literally in two places at once. His feats must obey for the most part physical laws, and he is not the saviour of planet Earth!!!!!!!! He is not capable of preventing all disasters and catastrophes, and hence humanity does not rely on him to always be the “answer to our prayers”. He does what he can, but he has limits!!!!!!!

Superman is aware of his origins as the Kents have told him, and some information regarding his parents and Kryptonian life where included in the ship, but there is no mystical like presence of Jor-el in existance. The Fortress of Solitude is simply a place of refuge for the Man of Steel, created by Superman as a place to get away from it all, his rustic fishing cabin on a pristine lake if you will. It is not a warehouse of Kryptonian pseudo science.

^ That's exactly the kind of Superman I'm looking for, though I did like SR somewhat.

agree mostly... but he cannot catch a plane in mid air??? spidey can stop a train but supes can't stop a plane??? c'mon. where would be the wow factor then.

Agreeing with realism factor.

He can stop a plane but as I've read and even stated before. It could cause the plane to break up as well as kill the passengers and crew from the G forces involved.

Personally I prefer a dorky Clark Kent. The glasses/hair-do disguise is hard enough to buy as it is, but Clark changing his entire demeanor does help it's believablility a bit.

Some where else............see for me if he can catch an airliner in mid air and effortlessly lower it to the ground there is no wow factor. Where's the suspense if he's capable of borderline miracles such as that.

Think of a disaster like the Titanic.
Ludicrous powered Superman(god-like man) arrives and simply lifts the oceanliner up and flies it to safety.....yawn.................or a Superman with amazing strength, speed and stamina arrives and must create a methodology, on a grandly amazing but still "human" scale, to save the ship improvising with materials at hand, working with the crew, controlling the panicing crowd, etc. For me that scenario would be far more exciting and interesting as a super-rescue.

I was just day-dreaming today... and, I think I've got a take on a Superman film series I'd just love. It's a bit different, especially regarding the (super-)villains, I'd make them credible while they'd still be faithful to the comic book counterparts. Villains in the series would include Metallo, Braniac, "The Toyman," and... if I could make him work (like I'd like to): Darkseid. I don't want to reveal too much since I'd like to write screenplays (I'll post 'em here, of course), and I see no reason in anticipating stuff from a script I'd like to write and would also like you to read it.

P.S.: At the end of the third part Superman must make a big decision (if it could work how I'm imaging it).

Well, there isn't much news going on, so I thought this could make a fun thread. We are always debating what went wrong with Singer's movies. How Singer failed, how Warners failed, how other directors failed. But how would you do it? What would your plot be like? What would your cast be like? Who would direct? Who would compose? The sky is the limit. Use your imagination. NO FIGHTING! JUST HAVE FUN!

Here is what I'd do.

I would simply title it:

Superman

The movie would open with a futuristic battle sequence. Think Terminator 2 Judgement Day meets the opening sequence of the Firefly episode Serenity. You have soldiers in trenches shooting at one another with laser guns, futuristic planes bombing these trenches. The camera slowly pans away from the battlefield and off in the distance you can see a large sci-fi esque city. Kandor, the capitol of Krypton Think a much more grand, much more beautiful version of LA from Blade Runner. The camera slowly travels through the city, before entering a large temple type building. This is the capitol building. In here we meet Jor-El. He is a respected scientist. Here he is urging the ruling council of Krypton to enter a truce with the rebel General Zod. He informs them that the bombs being used in the war are radiating the planet which is seeping to its core. The planet will be destroyed if they do not stop. The council rejects Jor-El's findings, claiming that Brainiac's (just a slight reference) findings negate them. I loved in TAS the way Brainiac convinced the council Jor-El was wrong. I think it would be a nice nod and a set up for possible sequels.

From there we see Jor-El's family estate. We meet his wife Lara. He vents that he is unable to convince them. Jor-El, knowing that he cannot save himself, dedicates himself to his work. A brief montage of Jor-El slaving over a machine. Neglecting his health, hygeine etc. He is obsessing over it. The only thing he makes time for outside of his machine, is his wife Lara and his baby son, Kal-El. It is clear Jor-El loves his family very much.

At the end of the montage, we see Kandor is in celebration. Parties in the streets, the citizens in uproars of joy. The reason is revealed to be because The war with Zod has ended and Zod has been inprisoned in the Phantom Zone.

However, the celebration is interrupted by a sudden Earthquake. It is quick, so most people simply shrug it off. Jor-El, secluded with his family in the estate, however, recognized it for what it really is. The end. He reveals his machine to Lara. It is a small rocket ship. The best he could make in such a small ammount of time, but it is able to give Lara and Kal-El a chance at surviving. There is no gaurantee that either will get safe passage to anywhere, but it will give them a chance and for Jor-El, that is enough. But not for Lara, she refuses to leave Jor-El. So, they tearfully say goodbye to their son after recording a brief message. Lara covers baby Kal-El with a blanket bearing the El family coat of arms. :super: The tremors then start again. They send Kal-El off in his ship and embrace to await their doom as the tremors worsen. We then see Kal-El, speeding away from the planet as it explodes. As we watch Kal-El and the bits of Krypton float off into space...the title comes across the screen..."Superman".

More to come later, maybe. Feel free to leave your ideas as well!

superhero movie meets love story movie meets disaster movie

Act I

Open through Metropolis, which looks like this times 10:

concept_widstrt.jpg

At night, but its totally desserted. Were in the middle a huge army search-humvees-dozens of them-burst on the screen, and surround the enormous METRPOLIS BANK-a recovery team quickly is sent, but moments later mass gunfire sounds; before the entire first floor of the building EXPLODES! Out walks LORD HAVOC-clad in skintight black outfit with white lines for his eyes and down his torso, and white belt...he strides out of the ruins, untouched. The man of steel lands iconically and powerfully down the street. The two eachother, before taking off in a collosal fist fight above metropolis.

Superman kicks Havoc down to Earth, who grabs a n oil rig truck and smashes it into Superman-it explodes and he thrown back, crashing through a skyscrapper and out the other end in slowmo

He heads back for more, but Havoc has fleed! We follow him to the NEW YORK MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY where Superman cat and mouse chases Havoc, until he sees something off screen that makes him shriek-drop-he is DYING! He screams up at us as we cut to:

Clark kents apartment. Clark Kent-28-wakes up in a sweat. His cozy apartment is on the 50th floor of a Metropolis building, and its not even dawn. He had some sort of dream; he looks at his superman suit, still hanging in the closet, and goes back to bed.

We meet Jimmy Olsen, 23. Its 5 AM-still dark out and hes at crime scene, snapping pics! A robberys bene foiled by an unknown man, who was too fast for camera and somehow got the men up 60 feet and tied them to the bank lights One of the criminal says he "flew"...Olsen rolls his eyes.

Montage of Metropolis in the morning; stores opening, people going out; clark getting dressed. This is his first day at the Daily Planet. Jimmy gives him a bad gift, and Clark sees Lois whose in a huge argument with the catankerous perry White. He instantly is attracted to Lois, who is smoking! She is upfront, confident, but nice at the same time. Very likeable.

We learn they're going to a convention for Lois's boyfriend. Whose that, clark asks, to which Jimmy replies, "LEX LUTHOR".

Pan over a HUGE sign of "LEXCORP" to find a skycrapper near completition: Lex's new building. Grand opening party in 2 weeks. We meet Lex with some of his guys before the convention; he's a punkass. Rich and sophisticated, young and brilliant, but a sneering snob. Bald but in great shape. The convention talks about new weapons he wants to sell to the us military which track items from outer space.

Clark and Jimmy cover it, as with his xray vision clark finds Lex mistreating Lois behind the scene when she tries to give him public speaking advice. Jimmy says Lois is a gold digger and nothing more, and we fade out....to outer space!!!

In outer space; we find shuttle "Empire" and its crew working on a satelite...when an object flies by; a sleek, small machine, hovering towards Earth. An astronaut sees it, but Nasa picks up nothing as the machine enters Earths atmosphere. We follow it as it crash lands into the middle of the Sahara Desert at night. Once landing; the human sized "detector" lights up; some sort of discovery has been made.

Shots of the daily planet at night. We find Lois and Clark working late over chinese, and it turns to small talk. Earlier, Jimmy told Lois about the stories he heard of a "flying man" and they discuss them, Lois dismisses them as pure fiction. They also talk about Lex, and peoples instincts, ect. Lois thinks Lex is a great guy who has some downsides like everyone...and clark says his instinct tells him hes up to no good (something Clark thinks due to he saw lex mocking lois to lex's pals). Lois comes off as very friendly, expecially to a reserved Clark, though driven and ambitious. Clark speaks of his past from smallville. Small tlak as they grow closer; and we figure out already she is the person closest to clark.

Back in outer space, we come to a massive starship...LORD HAVOC is an alien bounty hunter who works for the intergalactic boss BRAINIAC...Brainiac has some huge desire to find krypton technology, and Havoc informs him that a probe that landed on Earth has picked up. Brainiac now reveals hes searching for Kal-el, as he believes he has it, and he sends Havoc and 2 of his friends-Ty and Nig-to Earth to bring it to him.

Its not the following day. Clark shows up to work to find Jimmy about to leave-he and Clark have been assigned to cover a charity event across town. Clark asks where Lois is, an he says shes taking the monorail to lexcorp to go with lex, whose making a huge donation.

We meet Lois lane, who is with 3 of luthors assistants, in a crowd train station...except this one is 45 stories in the air; smack in the middle of a skyscrapper the train tunnels through the middle of! Lois gets on, and quickly is in trouble when the trains breaks fail! The train rockets through busy stops where it is expected to stop, and cont slow down! Trains are forced off the tracks to make way! Lois overhears the conductor saying in 6 miles, theyre out of track to which lois begins panicing along with everyone else!

Meanwhile, Jimmy and Clark are stuck in traffic inthe backseat of a cab, burning in the hot sun. Thyre cabbie is aloud mouthed black man played by Chris Tucker, who tells jokes as they wait...when clark hears the screams of lois! Oh no! With xray vision, he sees through the building the dead the train lurching towards...without waiting, clark jumps out the open window, leaving jimmy confused, dashes across the rooftops of cars, and heads for a phoneboth...

Meanwhile, the runaway train crashes through a stop, and noone has any idea how to stop it...suddenly superman appars, rocketing through the canyons of downtown metroplis, trailing the monorail, and ducks inside a building stop. He flies past the windows and to the front, and tries to push it to a stop, but it wont work! He tries invein as it gets closer and closer, until supermans cape is caught in the wheels! Hes sucked down and the train derails, the front car smashing into an office building! It crashes out the end, and the first car-lois inside-dangles, lurching towards the ground 45 stories away, when suddenly it stops-supermans holding the end of it! Suddenly, the front cars holder th 2nd car SNAPS-it budges HARD0-DANGLING by a thread-the movement cause lois to los her face-she FALLS-SMASHES through the windshield and PLUMMETS towards the pavement as a crowd in the metropolis park watch below in terror!

Superman swoops in from above and saves her, andthan catches the falling car! A true hero! He sets em down in the park, where he and lois simply stare at eachother; it really is love at first site; and are about to speak when lex arrives, creating a huge scene as if it could get any bigger; ignoring superman and seeing if Lois is alright...Lois thanks Superman and Lex follows her lead; and he waves at the crowd, and fllies home, now a huge ron burgundy sized deal.

Superman lands at his apartment where he has a panic attack..."superman" was never supposed to be public! we follow him as he touches down in smallville, where jonathan and martha are, to lay low for a few days; contemplating wether hell ever do that again. hes called jimmy olsen, telling him hes terribly ill.

Meanwhile, its night time in Lex's office where he's chillin with a still shaken up Lois. Lex is watching the news, were "stranger mania" has taken ahold of news channels- who is this flying man in metropolis! a Jimmy Olsen interview comes where he begins saying "he told everyone so cause he heard it first!" and lex shuts off the tv . He finds her, staring out the window, up at the sky; looking to see if she sees the flying man again. Lex thinks her distance is because shes still shaken up. He apologizes if hes done anything to upset her and says hes very busy, to which lois says she understands. He gives her a gift, a set of car keys to what is surely the nicest ride ever made, but she still seems distant to him, even as she walks away, leaving him shaking his head in confusion/anger. Lex does seem to care about Lois, and there is no real reason to HATE HIM yet, he just does not seem like the most likeable dude.

Back in Smallville, Jonathan and Martha tell clark that superman a good thing and he needs to keep being him, even if he doesnt want to. "its time to answer your true calling" they say. Clark walks around the farm, and we see flashbacks of him learning his powers. We then see Clark standing alone, in the middle of the fortress (we dont see what it looks like on the outside yet) amd it is a huge, silvery clear crystal structure. Notlike singer; this is more like aclassic astle madeof ice and its monsterous...clark stares in it, an epifany...he knows what he must do as we close up on his face, music mounting and building...and we find superman! flying-zooming-through the andes mountains!

ACT II

Superman rockets iconically through the Andes; shots from his vision as mountain flying by at dizzyspeed...he stops, listening, and takes off! He barges in on some fools whove kidnapped a kings son, and returns the boy safely to his parents! He stops a bank robbery in Japan! Meanwhile, shots of him on the frontcover of newspapers and magazines...superman saves a town from an avalanche...more shots of news stories and footage, finally a shot of THE DAILY PLANET and the headline SUPERMAN! by lois Lane... and finally rescues a ship from a huge storm!

Then we;re at the planet, where lois gives white her article on superman for the week; this is her biggie talking about what it was like being rescued y him. white calls its a "turd" and has it printed for the next days frontpage and says lois has the day off.

Then we meet up with criminals in the middle of a building robbery at night. Superman shows up, and says "I think thats called STEALING"...and gets them arrested. He sees them put in a cop car, which drives away, when we recognize the driver as MERCY- luthors asisstant clark saw at the convention...

Follow the cop car, as it pulls into lexcorp headqaurters. superman following. Inside lexcorp, Luthor is notified his weapons hes trying to sell have picked up theyre first real UFO-and its heading for the sahara! Nasa has no idea, so luthor orders his men in egypt out there to get a head start; this will greatly jack up his asking price. We follow luthor to his elevator and a she waits to go to his penthouse office (140th floor) when it stops too soon...luthor is confused but it wont rise. The elevator suddenly moved around-we only feel and hear it cause were on the inside- and the doors open to reveal superman hovering in the middle of the opposite elevator shaft; having turned luthor elevator around to face him. Luthor is polite as superman just saved his girlfriend lives but Superman says he know he was behind the robbery. Lex gets irrated, and says everything is ok. Supes says hell be keeping an eyeon him and lex doesnt like this. He says "I run this city, ok?" and says if superman wants everything to be ok, hell stay outta the way.

Superman flies away, and is about to leave when he finds Lois on luthors penthouse balcony. Theyre alone and this is the first time theyve ever been able to speak. Lois thanks him; a bit more small talk. She asks obvious things like what he was doing there, ect. They def. have chemistry; but superman xray visions luthor coming out there, and says he has to go (and leaves) but in actuallity, we see lex was listening to them. Lex walks out and asks lois who she was just talking to and she says noone. Lex says "oh" though we know he knows shes lying.

Back in the sahara, 3 jeep fulls of lexcorp men surround a sleek, private spacecraft...when suddenly nig and ty arrive and kill all of them but one in a terrifying scene; just like a horror movie! HAVOC walks out of the ship, cool and godly, and demands that the 1 remaining lexcorp employee take him to "whoever is in charge".

The next day at the planet is a huge meeting/ clebration! Lois article set record sales and she is commended (she gets lunch with perry and lex will join them!) but white wants everyone on the ball, trying to get more outta this guy. After listening to jimmy talk abuot how great it is, Lois secretly tells clark she saw Superman last night, ect. She says she'd kill for that interview, and clark says "everyone in the world wants that oppritunity" to which lois half jokes " i just wanna see him again".

She leaves to go to lunch, leaving clark thinking...lois really wants to see superman again...he leaves. We follow Lois and white down amid a mob of media and paparazzi as they are greeted by lex. Lex looks irritated when they keep asking she will superman again, and they are about to get in a cab when Superman floats down from above (infront of everyone-lois, white, lex and all the photographers) and asks lois if shed like to interview him. She looks at lex who while he doesnt look mad, isnt happy, and looks at white, who would probably kill her if she refused, and accepts.

meanwhile, shots of the pentagon. General Stuart Sutton is made aware by Lex via intercom that his weapons and team intercepted an alien ufo that seems to be legit. Sutton says theyve got some weapons of theyre own, and thinks the ufos a hoax, but the joint chiefs set up a meeting for the next day. Meanwhile, Lex is in his security ward where hes hacing a man play back secuirty footage...he sees the person lois was talking to is indeed SUPERMAN...uh oh...

Back at the planet, clark and lois talk. He asks f shes nervous and ****, and she thinks shes trying too hard. Shes just finished getting ready and heads up to the roof, where superman lands. They ask the standard questions; and this Lois is visibly different the Lois we see with Lex. She is much more energetic and seemingly, happy. The talk turns to wether superman is single, and he says he met her boyfriend. she turns off the mic and says "whatd you think of him" to which superman says he thinks he may be in some trouble...Lois says she likes Lex, they just have they're moments...anyways after some big flirting, they go flying; around Metropolis, over the river, and swirling up into the clouds, and pausing in the most romantic area above them, where all they can see are huge moon and all the stars and it is incredibly silent...they go back to the planet, Lois is literally blown away. She ask how bad lex is, and superman says she shouldnt be worried. He flies away, both leaving with they're minds spinning...they really hit it off.

the next day is luthor army meeting. Pan up from signs of the massive grand opening concert and parade thats days away to find lex in the miliarty meeting. They wont pay his prices, and hes mad. They think superman may have destroyed a need for his weapons. Lex is mad, and says they may need to start worrying bout superman soon enough. Back at the planet, clark is in a great mood, and Lois article is a massive, massive huge hit. Supermania is everywhere. Lois and clark have grown semi close, and Lois leaves as shes meeting lex at his place for a "candlelit dinner." at Lois's....
