Superman Reboot Writers Workshop

My Superman movie would open with asteroids about to hit the Earth. I don't remember exactly, but the asteroids are connected to something later on in the movie, a villain I believe (long time since I worked on my script). Anyway, Superman saves the world and it's a good beginning because it's a lot of action and is designed to hook the audience right off the bat. Picture Superman punching and throwing and using ALL of his powers against the asteroids, which proves to be a very difficult thing.

Ma Kent is sick and Clark returns to Smallville to be by her side and to help out with the work.

As Ma Kent and Ben get closer, Clark reveals his identity to Ben, who already knew all along!

There is a troublesome new reporter at the Planet that picks on Clark for his nerdiness and old fashioned ways. Clark reluctantly uses his Superman powers to give the guy some humility.

Finally, a huge battle with a supervillain!

Back to lexcorp,Lord havoc and his 2 boi's comes before lex with the employee. They demand to know where kal-el is, but luthor wont be forced so havoc shows whose boss and luthor realizes they want superman as they have the same powers he does. luthor isnt so quick to turn over who it is; at this point he still doesnt seem to mean supes harm. he says to come back tomorrow and hell tell them what they want and if they dont leave theyll never know; he tells the employee to give a place to hide out. Furious, havoc and his 2 friends leave, and walk right past Lois whose entering...superman words float through her head "lex isnt entirely good"...and she follows them; leaving Clark and Jimmy in a cab wondering what shes doing...but Clark thinks he knows...

Havoc is brought to a rundown lexcorp warehouse; where she follows them inside and listens to them talk about a need to murder kal-el..."whose kal-el" lios whispers...suddenly NIG has found her with his xray vision; Lois had no idea they were aliens...theyre about to rip her apart, limb from limb, when suddenly SUPERMAN crashes through a skylight and kicks em away; he head lois screams appearently...lois flees as superman fends them off. Havoc tells ty and nig not to let her get away. Lois gets to her brand new corvette lex bought her, back up, smashing into another a car, and peels out, onto the freeway fleeing! Superman is double teamed and beaten by ty and nig who flee to get Lois. Superman and Havoc eye eachother but superman leaves.

What follows is a midair freeway chase as Ty and Nig attempt to get to/destroy lois. They blow up cars and toss em aside, but superman keeps saving her. Eventually, superman has her outta the car and ty and nig detroy it, only to realise shes gone. Havoc is PISSED shes gone...

Meanwhile, we follow superman as he flies-lois in his arms having rescued her again-and he flies into the majestic fortressof solitude...lois wants to know if this is where he lives...this is her 3rd time with him, and after some chat about who they are, how powerful they are, supes says HES Kal-el; therefore theyre looking for him...the 3rd time the 2 are together alone and they FINALLY hook up! Kissing for a few brief seconds...feeling guilty now, Lois says she has to go.

At LOIS'S penthouse apartment across town, we see lex inside, waiting. watching the news. His "candlelit dinner" he set up (at her house, heh) a flop...she stood him up at her own place. But he sees why. On the news..they show superman flying her away from danger, and shows them flying over the oceans, "undoubtedly heaed for supermans place". Lex is now, finally...pissed. Jealous. Lois walks in from the balcony. "where have you been?". It starts slow, but lex FREAKS OUT and demands Lois not see him again. "Hes DANGEROUS!"-"HE SAVED MY LIFE how is he dangerous?"-"then why does the army want him dead?"... this is classic lex,a jealous, selfish ***** who intimidates the crap out of lois.

Back at lexcorp now, lex is pissed. he calls up Havoc, and says he wants superman dead. Havoc is ther in a second (he can fly). They say they need kryptonite, and also they need some sort of bait. what could they use??? close up of lex, as he looks at picture of him and LOIS...

SUPERMAN: THE LOST SON

Act II continued

Meanwhile, Clark is on fire! He feels like hes the man! He see's Lois at work and they chat briefly, Whites all over her to write a new article about the rescue. Lois is stressed and goes to the daily planet roof for a breather, and Clark sees it. As Superman, he flies up. The last time he saw Lois, the previous night, they hooked up and he dropped her off. Superman thinks things are going great. But Lois stress between her job, her boyfriend she feels loyal to, and Superman who is drawn to, has gotten to her. She tells Superman that her life was going great before he arrived, and ever since it's been headed in a direction she didnt expect and says she can no longer see him anymore, before heading back inside, her mind a mix of emotions.

Superman doesnt like it obviously, but he is superman. He respects her wishes. We then get a slow montage with music playing as Lois rides away in a limo with lex while superman flies away. Intercut shots of they're faces, as Superman eyes begin welling up as he flies away, faster and faster, while Lois watches Lex on his cell phone, shrewd businessman. She looks out the limo window and sees 2 teenagers dancing, seemingly having a great time. She doesnt know what she wants.

After the montage is over, its obvious to us niether are particulary happy about what just happened, though Lois's choice is understandable and Superman must act like that. Lex drops Lois off, and we see her going in...when suddenly Ty attacks her; knocking her out cold. Luthor and Havoc walk onto the scene, and Luthor makes Havoc promise she wont be hurt, and he nods.

Clark re-enters the Daily Planet, and it's now dusk. He tells white his article is done when he hears something strange...'Kal-ellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll". Clark knows who Kal-el is from the scriptures of krypton he has in the fortress, which he explained to lois (and us). Someone is calling for him in his native language!

Clark enters a stairwell, becomes superman and flies away! He traces the sound to the middle of the Sahara Desert where he sees Havoc cool, sleek space ship. Suddenly NIG attacks him, mauling him and tossing him over to Ty, who keeps the beat on going. He sent to the ground, and just as he tires to get up, LORD HAVOC has his foot on Supermans throat.

"Hello. Friend".

Superman tosses him off, and goes after him, but keeps getting detroyed. Ty and Nig hold him in mid air as Havoc beats the crap out of him, demamding to know where the kryptonion technology is. Superman has no idea wtf hes talking about, and Havoc doesnt like that! Havoc barks orders (in an alien language) to Ty and Nig and they fly off, and Superman goes to follow, but Havoc grabs him and throws him into the middle of downtown metropolis! Superman and Havoc fight, until Superman loses havoc amongst the skyscrappers-

we get to where we were at the very begining-superman hears the bank explode and lands, and we see a fast forward version of the first fight from different angles, and catch up with superman back at the museum of natuel history! What is making his scream, suffer, and die? LOIS is wrapped in a kryptonite neclace we saw on Havocs ship earlier, and is plunged in a large retaining pool! Superman, dying, smashes the tank. Lois is conscious and sees whats happening and the effect of the neclace on Superman, he but he seemingly dies right there. Lois is a mess, thinking he just died to save her, when suddenly luthor (and the police) arrive, they got there on "anonymous tip" and Havoc, Ty, and Nig are gone. Luthor acts like he has no idea what happened, and they turn to see Superman is gone...

SUPERMAN: THE LOST SON

Act III

The fight is global news and we see a montage of clips from news channels. Lois is once again the center of attention. Luthor protectivly shields her away from media outside her apartment as he guides her in. Back at the planet, Jimmy and co. are working late. The general consesus is both Havoc and Superman are missing. General Stuart Sutton has the U.S. on def con 1 for the night. Lois emotionally distraught, Lex asks her what happened-we get the feeling he may not even know exactly what went down- but she keeps quiet...brief flashback as we see lois knows the people who she thinks killed superman aeth same people who seaw walking utof lexs office...she knows hes involved.

Back at the fortress of solitude, we see a bloodied and dying superman arrive, crawling and pulling himself into the main chamber where the scriptures are. He opens them and begins going through the technology, when he activates-by accident- the jor-el hologram. Superman has never seen his father yet, and ghis father tells him of kryptons dismise. Flashback montage of krypton getting blown up, and back to superman, still hurt, who now knows why hes there.

In Metropolis, everyone wants to know what is going on! where is he? Lois returns to work, where she tells white she wont be writing an article on her previous superman episode...jimmy and her have a one on one for a minute, and jimmy asks if everything is ok. lois says she thinks that superman might never be coming back. Jimmy says thats bad ect, and Lois says she think she made a mistake; that everytime she was with superman things always felt like they would be ok. Her words seem final, as if she has some huge regret.

Back to Luthor, he ios talking with the army and preparing for his huge mega grand opening party that night. Sutton informs the army no longer has a need for his weapons and wont even pay his original price, which luthor is pissed about! The army states they feel with havoc and superman gone they have no reason to spend that much money on them. Lex is furious, and now Havoc corners him. Havoc is mad, he doesnt have his technology and superman is dead so how will he find it? The cunning and clever side of lex takes over, and he forms a deal Havoc cannot refuse. Havoc shows the us he is still around and a threat and therefore lex's weapons and tracking technology will be bought. Once bought, luthor will have power globally-and would "easily" be able to track down the man of steels whereabouts through the u.s. satilite records. But how can they show Havocs still a threat?

Close up on Luthor's face as he sees a ad for his huge concert and party the following night on metropolis square to open in his new building...

Back in the fortress, superman is in recovery suit and asks jor-el what technology havoc is after, and jor-el reveals it is rejuvinatgion powers, but it can only be used once. Superman can finish healing, which would be done in 2-3 weeks, or he can take it now...

back at metropolis, it now night and luthor rolls up to his party. Lois wouldnt go with him, electing to go with jimmy for work. There are 1000's of people on metropolis drive listening to a huge concert, ect, all for charity kicking off the opening of lexcorp global headquarters. Luthor walks up and begins speaking; and he warns misty "any minute now"...

Back in the fortress, supermans still in debate; he speaks to jor-el who advises him to wait and save the powers. The we pick up his superhearing: Back to Metropolis, lex's speech...out of the blue from above, lord havoc blows in, BLASSTAFF in hand; a sleek 2 sided weapon we saw in the very opening scene when he walks out of the bank. We are now about to witness what it does; Ty and Nig hover by him as the entire crowd watches; and after a minute ty and nig send flares-the blastaff shoots flares out of both ends, blowing cars sky high as every flees and runs for their lives; luthor included! An attack has begin! We find Jimmy Olsen and Lois down here covering it. Lois recognizes who it is and freaks out-. We find lex now ordering misty to command his weapons that hes selling-hes loaded them with kryptonite which he knows hurts the evil trio as they told him theyre suits protect form it; but in missiles that will shred theyre suits, their explosed, and he personally is going to have misty defeat the 3 and become a hero!

Back at the fortress, superman takes the rejuvination powers, suits up, and flies out! Back to Metropolis- Ty blows up a building, raining debris on the fleeing crowd! Shost of them running, fleeing-ty and nig taking police men as havoc watches over. Shots of superman sooming at 100000 miles per hour across the sea, towards a huge city in the distance...

Havoc tells Ty and Nig to continue it up; they all need to die. Ty blows up a building and the walls about to fall on a crowd, which includes Jimmy and Lois when suddenly its CAUGHT-Superman is there! He orders the crowd to flee-Lois is in amazement and Superman gives her a sad look, and leaves.

Luthor finds Lois and orders her to come with him; she doesnt know where to go but the fleein crowd-as well as jimmy and lex-pull her away. Menawhile, Superman goes and beats on ty and kicks nig much to the crowd applause and shock as superman has RETURNED, Havoc is pissed when the weapons go off-ty is incernated into thin air! Realizing they're ****'d, havoc shoots misty with his blasstaff while Lois and Jimmy see it. Meanwhile turns and MAULS superman-he is easily the best of the 4, and sends superman tumbling into a near by building, near death already. Lois sees this and sees thge fleeing people, and tries to go-Luthro wont let her and says its dangerous, but lois says "dont you understand? this is a massacre and he is our only hope! everyone here is going to die if we dont help him" but lex stares at her-finally she breaks free and runs-jimmy follows, and Lois tells him to check out lex's weapons!

We find SUPERMAN knocked cold on the first floor of a****ty abandoned building that is about to colloapse, lois enters and struggles through the collapsiong building to find him. Meanwhile, Lex runs up and barks to havoc to stop, that it is enough! But havoc doens tlisten, as lex just killed his friend-havioc punches luthor, who flies 35 feet across the street onto a car. Much of the crowd is now gone but there still many remain, now terrfied or in hiding.

Lois manages to drag out superman just as the building collapses, and he comes conscious. they look at eachother, and lois says she is sorry, and superman says he has to tell her something...and superman smiles and she shakes her head, and the two kiss briefly, before a huge explosion interupts theyre moment, and seperates them. Superman tells her to get outt athere and now motivated, goes to kick ass!

Back to Jimmy hes at the weapons, but now he has no idea how to use them! Superman meanwhile flies up from behind and underneath NIG AND GRABS HIS BLASTAFF-RIPS it in 2, firing both ends, fending off havoc and blowing nig to the ground, where jimmy activates the weapons and destroysd him! Havoc is the only one left! Pissed, Havoc BLOWS UP the weapons tower and jimmy hurtles out, badly hurt. We find lex, just becoming conscious, and sees whats going on-Supermans back! Uh-oh...

Superman catches havoc off guard-rips his blastaff apart- fight-they smash through buildings-supes going all out and pummeling eachother. Havoc grabs Superman by the cape and tosses him through a building, superman blows havoc across the street-superman wraps him in a phone wire and swing him through buildings flying in midair-collosal action!

Lois is helping Jimmy to his feet when suddenly LEX is there, gun in hand. He's ruined, his weapons failed, his party a disaster and his name ruined. He orders Lois and Jimmy with him, he has sort of sort of surprise, and they enter his building...

Superman sees it, and keeps fighting Havoc. Havoc throws a car at Superman, Superman throws havos thrown train tracks. Havoc then finds a piece of kryptonite from the missles, and goes to stab superman with it as they fly in midiar-a struggle- supermans about to be stabbed with it when he rips havocs uniform-his face explosed as it was in luthors office-the kryptonite incernates him horribly-havioc drops superman, screams and flies away! Shots of Havoc, as he flees out of Earth and into outer space, headed back to brainiac! Hes escaped, but he is gone for now...

Having won the fight, superman turns to find Lois. Everyone goes out and claps for theyre hero, and Superman asks perry white-on scene-where lois went and he says lex took em by gunpoint into his building.

The cops raid the first floor, but superman flies to the top-the 140th floor. Luthors penthouse. No power, its dark. Superman lands, looking for him...when suddenly he attacked by two of luthors men, superman takes em out. He finds Luthor, fully gone crazy, kryptonite in hand, Lois at gunpoint. Jimmy motionless on the floor, Lois looks terrified...theire on the huge balcony where lois and superman first really met...its tense and luthor mouths off, how he runs this city, ect. Superman looks down and sees jimmy eyes open-jimmy WINKS-he is OK-playing dead-superman moves instantly-luthor throws Lois off the edge-Olsen catches her barely as Lex-with kryptonite, tackles superman, punching and kicking ont the catwalks over the dome of his apartment. Luthor beats him ferouscily, hurting him with the krypronite as lois dangles for her life, jimmy barely holding her. Superman eye lasers a gas heating tank and it explodes-Luithor is blown away, landing hard on the pavement knocked out- the force sends Jimmy flying into the rail, hurt and sends lOis FALLING...

Superman dives over the building-people on the street in shock at the explosion from above-and superman dives, catching lois in a incredible arc at the last moment, over the huge crowd...shots of the crowd as they fly away, lois safely in supermans arms as lois says "what did you have to tell me"... and they look into eachothers eyes as they fly out of frame.

shots of masspeople walking metropolis square: 1 week later.

its night a large crowd has gathered outside of city hall where general sutton and few others are at a podium, and announce lex luthor has been arrested and superman is a national hero. Jimmy snaps pics. White finds Lois in the crowd, who informs perry shell be taking her vacation time and she walks away.

shots of lois walking down a deserted street, where she looks in a store window to see mass superman merchandise for sale.

she gets to her car, to find clark-nop glasses, in public ka-el mode we see in the fortress of solitude with lois- standing against it. They talk small, in private. Lois asks "are things going to be diferent?" and clark yes. The 2 kiss breifly but are interupts by Jimmy, and we see clarks vanished...we can now interpret the thingsuperman had to tell lois was that he is clark kent...jimmy gets in lois's car with her, and says "geez miss lanes, its too bad mr, kent is never around to see superman...hes always...hey waita minute...mr kent got here when superman did, hes gone when supermans here...you dont think" but Lois rols her eyes and says "jimmy, not in a million years". Pan back as they drive away, panning up the sky scrappers of metropolis, to see superman flying around the city, around the world, and into the camera.

So you'd basically make a sequel to SR?

So you'd basically make a sequel to SR?

Yup, the groundwork is there. I'd just fire most of the production crew, get me some fresh blood writer, hire back John Williams, maybe recast Lane, and bam...continue the story with a few changes.

I'll post some more of mine.

During the opening credits we watch young Kal-El zoom through the solar systems...perhaps to show Jor-El's genius, each planet he comes upon the computer of his ship scans to see if it is suitable for him, before he finally arrives on Earth...as his ship descends we cut to Smallville Kansas.

Here we see Jonathan and Martha Kent driving. They are discussing the trip they just took. They are on their way back from a doctor. They are unable to concieve children and the doctor confirmed they cannot. It is a very somber, sad time for them. Jonathan tries to reassure Martha, unsuccessfully. However, despite the sadness they are feeling, everything seems very calm...key word, seems. Suddenly something crashes into the ground from the sky, Jonathan swerves to avoid it and runs off the road. He looks at the tire on his truck. The truck is relatively undamaged but stuck in a ditch. Jonathan tries to push it out, while Martha investigates what crashed. All she finds is the shuttle, empty, with Kal-El's blanket. Jonathan continues to struggle with the truck, only to suddenly find it lifted out of the ditch. The camera pans to toddler Kal-El, holding the truck in the air, giggling. I think that is such a wonderful scene in the Donner movies and should carry over. Little homages are never a bad thing, after all. Martha rushes over and lifts the baby as he sets the truck back on the ground. There are no words in this scene...an awe-struck Jonathan looks to Martha. The audience can infer by her face and actions towards the baby that she has made up her mind. Jonathan seems like he wants to protest, but also seems to understand the futility of it. Reluctantly, he loads Clark's ship onto the truck and the Kent family sets off towards their farm which could be seen in the distance as they drive away.

We then cut to a montage of the Kents on their farm adjusting to raising a super powered son as he grows up. Just a light hearted little montage. Things like Martha trying to feed baby Clark. She blows on it to cool it off, baby Clark in his high chair imitates, and his super breath freezes the spoon and food. Playing catch with Pa only to launch the ball into the next county. But also normal things, to emphasize that while Clark is different, he was raised and loved like a normal child by the Kents. Show him at church with his parents, playing with his dogs, helping on the farm, etc. We watch him grow during this time.

After the montage, we meet a teenaged Clark Kent, now a senior at Smallville High. From here my plot would loosely follow what I consider the definitive Superman story. Jeph Loeb's A Superman For All Seasons.

The Smallville sequence would last about a half hour. During this time, we learn about Clark's life. His relationship with childhood sweetheart Lana Lang, his friendship with Pete who sees himself as bigger and better than being stuck in Smallville (and often teases Clark about being condemned to a life of a farmer). We see his relationship with his parents and their difficulty to guide Clark through this phase in his life, trying to find who he is and what to do. The Smaillville sequence climaxes with two very poignant sequences. First a Tornado that rips through the town. Anyone who has read FAS should be familiar with this. During the tornado Clark first learns he can fly as he pulls a gas station attendant out of the way of the tornado and the explosion of the gas station it causes. Afterwards, he returns to the farm to see the damage. He flies into the air with his new found ability and looks over the town, seeing the damage he lands, looks to his parents and tells them "I could've done more." For me, this is one of the most important Superman scenes ever. The way Loeb wrote it combined with Pa's narration, perfectly describes Superman's motivations and who he is. He doesn't have a tragic event that shapes him...he is simply a good person who wants to help. Pa tries to comfort him, but with little success. It is at this point, he realizes his son is becoming a man, and has to leave the nest.

But first he has to say goodbye to Lana, again, anyone familiar with FAS is familiar with this. He takes her out to the Kent fields, and shows her he can fly. Another very important scene. It shows how important Lana is to Clark. He shares a very important secret with her. As they fly however, she realizes that he is leaving as well.

We then cut to the next day...he says goodbye to his parents, and sets off.

End act one.

more, later, if I'm in the mood.

How would I make a Superman movie?

It'd be an animated quasi-reboot fusing elements of the Donnerverse, the DCAU, and various characters from the comics as well as reinvented from past incarnations. Furthermore, it'd be the pilot for a new animated series, with additional movies done as the storyline dictates; that way you wouldn't have a movie that conflicts with what's on TV (ex: Superman Returns and Smallville). The only element directly carried over from any incarnation (meaning unchanged in the process) would be John Williams' music score, with maybe elements of Ken Thorne's and John Ottman's thrown in.

These are fan art pieces I posted previously with descriptions outlining the basic idea behind each piece that are relevant to the way I'd go about it - already there are some of these designs I want to tweak further (some of these are a year or more old) and concepts I want to rework to fit better into it (ex: the ones involving Jason White would obviously be done without him), but they make up the general direction of where I'd go:

http://jochimus.deviantart.com/art/Man-Of-Tomorrow-Concepts-3-44681824

Like I said, these aren't EXACTLY what I want, but the general idea is supposed to be there.

I would do the Fleicher cartoons come to life. It would look something like Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Superman fighting the giant robots controlled by Luthor, maybe a Kryptonian villian to boot.

Think of Paltrow's character in the film, it's a Lois Lane clone. I think she was considered as a Lois Lane in some incarnation of the WB 10 year quest to make Superman. I guess Jude Law was considered as a potential Superman too, I don't see it but who knows. The characters wouldn't look like High Schoolers, they's be adults, early 30's.

That's what I would do. But I'd like to see a modern reboot Superman film done right. An epic retelling of the origin and a combination of super villians.

You guys have alot of great ideas here. Great reads.

However it happens I think they'd want Superman to be hot again with the public and GA. To do Spiderman numbers, to be cool again. To sell T-hirts and comics. I think we want the glory days back. I do anyway.

I`d go with Matt there and just film Superman for all seasons wich is, to me, the definitive Superman story.

The Abrhams script with a decent amount of tweaking. Whole new cast but for Routh. New director, producer and writers - to tweak.

I`d go with Matt there and just film Superman for all seasons wich is, to me, the definitive Superman story.

It really is. It would take some tweaking to work on film (a supervillian, some more action, some more screentime for Big Blue, and some more development for supporting characters)...but the plot truly does capture who Superman is like no other story.

Absolutely, NO LOVE STORY!!!!
Superman is about adventure and action!

I would do a restart with a post-crisis background using Byrne's work as reference. i would introduce the Superman universe with most elements of the DC world through name mentions, referrences, etc. The first film would feature Luthor as a villian, but not the main villain (that would be for the sequel).

John Williams would be in charge of the score, with the Warchowski Brothers directing.

I thought Williams doesn't want to do another Superman film because how he feels about Christopher Reeve (I could be wrong). Or is this just a fantasy thread where anything can happen? If so carry on. :)

Absolutely, NO LOVE STORY!!!!
Superman is about adventure and action!

the film that takes down titanic wqill be one of 2 kinds: diaster/love story or superhero/lovestory.

for superhero/lovestory, it dont get any bigger than superman; thats more story sooooo good!

Don't need Superman to beat Titanic (what's up with you, dude - only think of box office? :)), I just want it to be a great movie.

The problem is the weak and lame villians!

This is Superman, so his villians should be super, give the guy a challenge worthy of him, not someone as lame and weak as Lex Luther! How about someone on the caliber of Doomsday, or even better really take this franchise to the next level with Darkseid!

Stop making these weak and timid movies, bring on the real bad a_ _ _ s and let the serious butt kicking awesome Superman action explode!

Here is my continuation.

Act Two:

Act two opens 12 or 13 years after the Smallville scenes with Clark about 30 (different actor from the Smallville scenes, which used a younger, teenage Clark). He is arriving Metropolis at the Daily Planet building for the first time. During this scene, we get a full look at adult Clark, clean cut, hair combed to the side, suit, tie, and glasses. The camera should specifically focus on the fact, that like in Birthright while Clark's eyes are naturally blue, the glasses somehow manipulate the light to make them appear brown. He goes in, here we meet Perry White whom Clark has an interview with. During this interview it is revealed how Clark has spent the past 13 years. He spent the first 7 years earning his masters degree in Journalism from the University of Kansas. From there he went to travel the world, writing free lance pieces for various newspapers and magazines.

However during the interview he is very distant as he is using his x-ray vision to watch a woman through the walls of Perry's office. It is his first encounter with Lois Lane. She is fiercely yelling at Jimmy over a story. In her we can see the spark and attitude that Singer's Lois lacked. She is a dog-eat-dog type person, and yet there is something charming about her to Clark.

Due to his distracted nature, Perry turns him down for the job. Clark leaves, disappointed. On the way out he sees a truck, out of control on its way towards civilians. Clark steps infront of it and single handedly halts it. As the shocked crowd looks on, Clark hurries off before being identified.

The next scene he has returned to Smallville for comfort. He expresses to his parents a desire to help and a confusion. He doesn't understand how or why he has his powers but he wants to use them for good. Pa Kent discourages this as he fears his son would be locked up in a lab. He tells him it is one thing to do small little goods here and there as he did when he traveled, but living in a city like Metropolis, he can't publically flaunt his powers.

However, Martha tells Jonathan that Clark has to be Clark and Clark cannot allow people to be hurt. Clark considers visiting Lana, but his parents inform him that she left town around the same time as him. Even more frustrated by this turn of events, his parents realize what they must do. Tell Clark who he is and where he came from.

They take him to an old, locked up shed and show him the shuttle he was found in. He removes his glasses and the shuttle instantly reacts to his eyes performing a retinal scan. From there an image of Jor-El and Lara appears. Unlike Donner's Superman, this Jor-El would not come off as so prophetic. His message would simply be one of love towards his son that also explains his heritage. There would be no talk of sending Kal-El like a messiah as Donner's Jor-El did, because I personally dislike that interpretation. Jor-El was not a prophet, he was simply a man who wanted to save his son. However, the bravery and sacrifice Clark's birth parents made for him inspires him. He knows what he must do. He asks Martha to make him a disguise, while holding the blanket the Kents found him in, which was in the shuttle.

The next scene Clark has returned to Metropolis, with a new found determination. He returns to the Planet, intending to ask Perry for the job again, however the Planet is in an uproar as Star Labs is launching an experimental space plane that could revolutionize space travel (and in turn as Jimmy mentions, cost Lex Luthor billions in government contracts). Clark finds Perry and asks him for a second interview. Clark suggests giving him a freelance job to cover this launch to prove himself, but Perry states that his best reporter is already there.

We then cut to the launch (which is being watched on a TV monitor in the Planet). Lois is trying to get clearance to get closer to the shuttle, which is denied. She goes up to the guard (an army soldier) however and drops the name Sam Lane. The soldier quickly stands down and lets her pass. From here, Lois is able to sneak onto the shuttle.

Meanwhile, we cut to a large building. The biggest in Metropolis. An L shaped tower. The camera zooms to the top floor where we meet Lex Luthor. He is sitting at the desk in his office, smoking a cigar and watching the launch preparations. Luthor's attention however is not on the shuttle, but a woman dressed as a launch technician that is on the launch site where the news camera is. Luthor (and the audience's) attention is briefly diverted to her (Mercy). Luthor than takes a puff of his cigar, smiles, presses the intercom on his phone and informs his secretary Hope to print up a press release saying that LexCorp offers its condolences for this who died on Star Lab's experimental launch but to rest assured, that LexCorp will see to it that the space program continues unscathed by this incident.

We return to the planet..Clark is still pestering Perry. Perry, annoyed by Clark's persistance grants him a second interview but tells him to come back tomorrow after this story is over. Clark agrees.

Cut back to the shuttle launch (which Perry is watching during his convo with Clark). The shuttle launch is successful but as it goes to leave Earth's atmospere the engines suddenly give out. The pilots try to restore it with no avail. They are falling back to the Earth.

Jimmy then runs into Perry's office and informs him that the shuttle is plummeting towards Metropolis. Perry runs out of his office and begins to scream. He wants to know, how, why, where it will land and he wants to know NOW!...then he hesitates from his rant, looks to Jimmy and asks "Where the hell did Kent go?"

Cut to the street, absolute paniac as the shuttle is now visibly plummeting. This scene should reflect the paniac on Krypton as the tremors intensified and the planet began to explode. However, we see Clark run through the crowd and do the classic removal of the glasses coupled with :supes:. He runs into a secluded alley and launches into the air. Of course, here comes the classic, Superman rescues the space plane and introduces himself to Lois, Luthor, and the rest of the world. He guides it safely back to the STAR labs landing pad. Flirtation with Lois ensues. She asks for an interview, but Superman smiles and reveals he already gave away the exclusive before flying off. Lois mutters the famous line..."What a super man." Then the idea clicks in her head and she eagerly begins to scratch notes onto her notepad.

Cut to the next day, The Planet. The world is in shock over what happened and everyone at the Planet is searching for answers. Jimmy informs Perry that Clark is in his office for the second interview Perry promises him. Exasperated, Perry walks into his office, only to come face to face with a picture of Superman, complete with interview. He looks up at Clark, extends his hand and tells him "Welcome to the Daily Planet". I know Lois normally gets the first interview, but I felt it was a nice way to ignite some of the rivalry between Lois and Clark as well as a believable, realistic way for a nobody out of Kansas to walk onto a job at the world's largest newspaper.

Anyhow, To be continued...

Well, there isn't much news going on, so I thought this could make a fun thread. We are always debating what went wrong with Singer's movies. How Singer failed, how Warners failed, how other directors failed. But how would you do it? What would your plot be like? What would your cast be like? Who would direct? Who would compose? The sky is the limit. Use your imagination. NO FIGHTING! JUST HAVE FUN!

Here is what I'd do.

I would simply title it:

Superman

The movie would open with a futuristic battle sequence. Think Terminator 2 Judgement Day meets the opening sequence of the Firefly episode Serenity. You have soldiers in trenches shooting at one another with laser guns, futuristic planes bombing these trenches. The camera slowly pans away from the battlefield and off in the distance you can see a large sci-fi esque city. Kandor, the capitol of Krypton Think a much more grand, much more beautiful version of LA from Blade Runner. The camera slowly travels through the city, before entering a large temple type building. This is the capitol building. In here we meet Jor-El. He is a respected scientist. Here he is urging the ruling council of Krypton to enter a truce with the rebel General Zod. He informs them that the bombs being used in the war are radiating the planet which is seeping to its core. The planet will be destroyed if they do not stop. The council rejects Jor-El's findings, claiming that Brainiac's (just a slight reference) findings negate them. I loved in TAS the way Brainiac convinced the council Jor-El was wrong. I think it would be a nice nod and a set up for possible sequels.

From there we see Jor-El's family estate. We meet his wife Lara. He vents that he is unable to convince them. Jor-El, knowing that he cannot save himself, dedicates himself to his work. A brief montage of Jor-El slaving over a machine. Neglecting his health, hygeine etc. He is obsessing over it. The only thing he makes time for outside of his machine, is his wife Lara and his baby son, Kal-El. It is clear Jor-El loves his family very much.

At the end of the montage, we see Kandor is in celebration. Parties in the streets, the citizens in uproars of joy. The reason is revealed to be because The war with Zod has ended and Zod has been inprisoned in the Phantom Zone.

However, the celebration is interrupted by a sudden Earthquake. It is quick, so most people simply shrug it off. Jor-El, secluded with his family in the estate, however, recognized it for what it really is. The end. He reveals his machine to Lara. It is a small rocket ship. The best he could make in such a small ammount of time, but it is able to give Lara and Kal-El a chance at surviving. There is no gaurantee that either will get safe passage to anywhere, but it will give them a chance and for Jor-El, that is enough. But not for Lara, she refuses to leave Jor-El. So, they tearfully say goodbye to their son after recording a brief message. Lara covers baby Kal-El with a blanket bearing the El family coat of arms. :super: The tremors then start again. They send Kal-El off in his ship and embrace to await their doom as the tremors worsen. We then see Kal-El, speeding away from the planet as it explodes. As we watch Kal-El and the bits of Krypton float off into space...the title comes across the screen..."Superman".

More to come later, maybe. Feel free to leave your ideas as well!

That was pretty good Matt. It needs a bit of fleshing out, but that is a new twist to Krypton story that would give depth.

Glad you liked it  feel free to read and comment on the next to parts that I posted, if you'd like :yay:

Now if one of you learned the craft of screenwriting, you might be dangerous.
