Ok, so the first part of the long promised interview with Ilya Salkind is finally up at SupermanCinema.co.uk

It's a cool read, specially if you consider how much attention Donner as been given on the media while Ilya is never asked about his side of the story.
While one can't be sure if he's telling the whole truth (I think we'll only get it if we put these two guys on a table and have a debate) I was, again, pleasantly surprised at how he simply refuses to point fingers and tries to put things in perpective. But I was absolutely floored at his budget estimates. According to him, the first movie alone cost, get ready for this, an incredible 90 million dollars!!! And those are 1978 figures! Also, Donner's material cost $30 million, which means they spent $120 million before getting a single dollar back after the first movie's release in Christmas '78!!! As he puts it latter, "If Superman bombed, there wouldn't have been a Superman 2 period. We would've hid in the Amazon!" :D
