Surely Harry should save Peter because he's like his brother?

Having Bernard tell Harry Peter didn't kill his dad seems completely wrong in terms of storytelling. The conflict in Harry is this; should he help his best friend to save Mary-Jane, despite thinking he killed his father, or should he leave him to die?

For Bernard to appear and short-circuit all the drama is wrong. Harry should resolve the situation himself.

Harry should either realise that he believes Peter, or appear at the climax reluctantly to help Spidey, thus giving the whole finale more drama; is harry going to help Spidey or help kill him? Could he turn on Spidey at any minute?

stupid Harry should've just sat down and listened to what Peter had to say from the start like a civilized human being...instead of some goblin

The scene would've been better if Harry had just walked into the Lair, picked up the sword looking all thoughtful, then went back to sitdown. Cut to the battle royal. Peter's getting raped by Venom when Harry swoops in to save the day.

I agree.

Except for the rape part.

one of the many problems with sm3. definately the most dissapoint CB movie I can think of, this and X3

When the DVD comes out, I'm actually going to do a recut of the film and add some deleted scenes. One of things is that I'm going to cut out all of Harry after he gets the bomb in his face. This includes the Peter help scene and the Bernard scene. This way, we actually think Harry is dead and Spider-Man goes into battle without us knowing that Harry is still alive. Then when Spidey is one the verge of death...PUMPKIN BOMB! The suspense would be huge and you wouldn't expect it as much. Anyways, just one of the many cuts I plan to make to the film. :woot:

The only problem with that would be it wouldn't really make sense with the story. Harry would just be like "hey I know the last time I saw you you blew half my face off, but i'm okay with that."

one of the main themes of the movie was forgiveness right? it wouldnt make much sense if Harry just forgave Peter for killing his father without knowing the full story..

I agree with you in that I think a much more powerful scene would have been for Harry to again see Norman, and this time stand-up to him.

While I don't think the Bernard thing was as horrible as some, I just think closure-wise, Harry needed to confront Norman rather than simply learning that Norman was to blame for his own death.

^^ Harry confronting Norman one last time would've been perfect! but sadly it didnt happen :(

Think about it. If Harry KNOWS Peter didn't kill his father, he has nothing to forgive him for.

You see, I disagree it was bad storytelling. Harry forgiving Peter means he still thinks he killed Norman. What Harry realizes from Bernard is that he made his best friend lose the love of his life, ignored him, tried to kill him, and even got Peter to the point where Peter tried to kill him (ended up only permanantly scarring him) for nothing. Harry realizes all that happend between them was his own fault, not Peter's.

While it may be your preference Harry just forgive Peter or confront Norman, Bernard telling Harry is not bad storytelling. Raimi just chose to make Harry confront the situation differently than most expected.

I can see where people didn't like the scene, though.

I just think it'd dumb for Harry to just forgive Peter for killing his father. He was going crazy remember, he really thought that Peter killed him outta cold blood..

He should've confronted his dad one last time like what Dragon said and finally realize that he's going crazy and that his dad was evil and that Peter had the right to kill him..

He blew a bomb up in his face and told him his father despised him. I think that calls for forgiveness.

Harry's plot was darn-near perfect. The only thing that prevented it from being perfect was the butler scene. I'm not TOO bothered by the butler scene, but it could have been handled a lot better.

It shouldn't have been up to the butler to change his mind. It should have been up to Harry to change his own mind. Harry should have had a revelation on his own.

It does. While I think many can not like the approach to handling Harry confronting the situation (and I can see where people didn't like the butler thing), it is not bad storytelling. It is just another way of going about the scene. Even without needing to forgive him for his father, Peter did blow a bomb up in his face and said his father despised him (Harry drove Peter to do it, but it is screwed up no less).

no no i agreed with u lol

but surely it was obvious that Peter was under the influence of some alien symbiote that came from outer space... :whatever:

He blew a bomb up in his face because Harry had tried to kill him repeatedly!

I am not saying it wasn't Harry's fault he did. It clearly was, I agree, but no less he permanantly scarred him. Plus, two wrongs don't make a right.

The only problem with that would be it wouldn't really make sense with the story. Harry would just be like "hey I know the last time I saw you you blew half my face off, but i'm okay with that."

It would perfectly make sense, we have them fight together and we realize Harry has learned the truth. This would make the ending a bit more powerful with the whole "You're my friend" speech by Harry. By cutting out all of Harry up until he saves the day, and then having the "friend" speech, we learn that Harry came to terms with his past and that Peter has always been his best friend. It would make the scene a lot more powerful.

It could have been a foil for the scene in SM-2 with Uncle Ben:

"What are you talking about Harry? (tears) Take my hand, son...make your father proud."

(Harry shaking his head with tears) "No, Dad...I'm Angry Friend with Weapons...no more."
