'Sword of Truth' aka Legend of the Seeker

I've thought about reading them for awhile, but I have to finish my reread of The Wheel of Time first.

Well worth your time, by far my favorite fantasy series. I wouldn't say it ruins the show, but my stand is that I only watch 6 episodes of the first season and the first episode of the current one. Not a reflection on the show itself.

While I think they make some stupid and unnecessary changes sometimes, the show is great for what it is. I would never have found the books if not for the show, so I owe it everything for that.

I've got a couple other books I need to finish first, then I'm gonna start the series over again. The holidays feels like a good time to do that.

Yeah, I've been reading them for years as they were released so I have them all in hardcover. The TV series makes unnecessary changes and is just not my taste. In my head there are 2 guys who can play Richard Rahl, Brandon Routh or Brad Telfer. Heck, the way Terry describes him the further you go into the series is the more huge and Superman-like.

The show seems to be a proving ground for Raimi and Tappert's upcoming Spartacus series on Starz, which actually looks amazing.

Woah! That last 20 minutes threw me for a loop especially Zed even pushing that idea to Kahlan.

Glad the Stone of Tears resolved and next week looks awesome with young Zed!

Edit: And oh, Aimee Teegarden has some awesome boobs.

Considering how off the mark the series is from the books usually, I'm going to guess no.

Apparently, Zed is magically turned young but looses the wisdom of his age and crazyness ensues.

Magically turned young. Nope, in Debt Of Bones he actually is young.

I usually refer to the series as bad fan fiction. 2 years in and they still can't even get Richard Rahl's name right, how basic is that.

Another living Confessor, a dreamcaster, and a spell on Zedd reminescent of Chainfire? I really wish they'd stop mixing and complicating things so much. Zedd found the Stone of Tears almost right away... they're dragging this out way too long.

Normally I hate complaining about anything, but I just can't help it. Cara would never have been split up from Richard that easily... and I wish she would call him "Lord Rahl". :cmad:

Yeah, doing Stone Of Tears without the Sisters Of The Light, or Blademasters. But then they managed to do WFR without the Mud People.

Wanna bet Nicholas The Slide shows up really soon?

Lmao, Nicholas showing up without Jagang or even the Order present. I hate to say it, but I actually wouldn't be surprised.

I can't believe they're just completely ignoring the Sisters/Palace of the Prophets. Nathan's one of my favorite characters. I'm still hoping the Mud People show up sooner or later though. I'm starting to think that when Jagang eventually shows up, he won't even be from the Old World.

I still like the show, but the last episode finding out what happened to Kahlan's sister was somewhat deflating. Just that they did it all offscreen and this was the first they heard about it. The impact just wasn't there. It felt weak they could get away with that.

It felt like a waste of the episode from the first season.

You do realize that by making Panis Rahl a good guy they have completely removed the need for an older yet still good Rahl in the line? Now Nathan Rahl and by extension Verna are completely superfuluous. That also makes general Myfert's death a few weeks ago useless.

Why am I complaining, they still call him Richard Cypher the Seeker, when he's Richard Rahl, the War Wizard.

I haven't read the books so I can't speak to how eager he was to adopt the Rahl title, but at least in the series, everytime he's called that by the D'Harans or Cara, the townspeople gasp or wince. So I think they're building up to him accepting his title, for good and bad.

I heard a rumor that at some point Richard and Kahlan split up in the season. Don't know if it's true. So maybe he'll go back to the palace and Kahlan to where the heck she was supposed to have gone at the end of episode 1.

Look man, Darken Rahl is Richard's father not his brother. Richard is Richard Rahl. The whole point of the series is that he's not only The Seeker but he inherited adative magic from Zedd's side of the family but Subtractive magic from Darken's side making him the first wizard with both sides of the magic for 2000 years, the War Wizard ... AKA Superman.

Look dude, no one is saying the change isn't against the books(I realized that half way through the season reading wiki and seeing how young the actor playing Darken was). I'm saying, at least they are playing out the changes logically for this show. He just spent an entire season crapping all over the name Rahl then just turn around and accepting it as his. I'm sure he'll come to the realization about reconciling both sides of his identity. How many times has Superman shunned his Kyptonian heritage only to heal both sides of his identity?

Is he at least a war wizard in the show? i just bought the first season on DVD but I have not watched it yet as I expect to be very dissappointed given even Goodkind who originally endorsed the series completeley disengaged from it.

On the contrary the show has alot of inconsistencies because they excercised so much backstory from the characters and never bothered to adequately replace it with their own mythology. Now you can't get thru one episode without running into various plotting problems.

Oh yeah, it's chock full of stupidity. There's nothing keeping Richard and Kahlan apart other than plot. I'm still not sure what they think they're gaining by the characterization change to Panis Rahl unless that guy was lying.

@Azuhra. He isn't though Horner mentioned they are going to start exploring Richard's magical lineage this season.

Why do you have the show in your avatar zanos?

The contrast between Richard's rule and his father's in the books was one of my favorite aspects. The soldiers and Mord-Sith were constantly remarking how different he was, and how he was the first Lord Rahl in generations that they WANTED to serve. Richard even freed the Mord-Sith, saying they were no longer bound to him, but they remained by his side only because they wanted to.

As for Richard and Kahlan being split up... it's probably true. They were apart for long stretches several times.

Except for the fact that he isn't actually a War Wizard yet. He should soon just be learning that he has the gift... the only magic he's relied on is the anger from the sword... and that hasn't even been mentioned at all.

Well Richard's finally getting his wizard training.

New outfit = Chesticles

yes, lots of changes....but Cara and Kahlan are soooo hot and i kind of like that Richard is hesitant to assume the title, look at what it did to that side of his family
