Action-Adventure Sydney Sweeney is Barbarella

Intriguing. Hope they get a good creative team, this could be a fun role for her.

I loved the OG as a child, think I have the blu-ray. Will be interesting to see what they do with it if it goes through

I hope they keep the spirit of the costumes instead of going for a gritty realistic look B86B02A9-EB57-41CA-9704-FE99F9670003.jpeg

If they kept some of the charming sleaze from the original, it might be one of the greatest castings in film history.

BEWILDERED!!!"

This is probably going to be about 60-70% less porno-y than the original and all the alt-right YouTubers are going to be in their feelings about it.
Yeah the director will be interesting. Sydney isn’t exactly a great dramatic actress so wondering if they embrace some of the campiness. Trying to do a serious route is going to cause some unsolicited laughs

I can definitely see Sweeney as Barbarella, but I can also see this being one almighty woke-fest that 'improves' on a 'problematic' original. I hope I'm massively surprised (but I won't hold my breath!).

And that will be an absolute travesty. IMO why even bother if it won't be as soft-core as the original? It can't be Barbarella without a naked anti-gravity spin. :o

Anyone saying Sweeney can't act is dead wrong, but trying to make a gritty, revisionist reboot of this would be ridiculous. This needs to be high camp and play into the absurdity of the original. The director/writer choice will be key - you have to find someone with great comic vision whose idea of feminism doesn't start and end with "chaste woman does violence." I'd put Clea Duvall first in line.

NWR was at some point attached to his version of Barbarella. My mind goes hnnnngh with the idea of that film, but I doubt they go that way at all. I did rewatch bits of 'Ready or Not'. That duo of Directors would be pretty damn good for this.

They should include a Duran Duran track in the film since the band got their name from the movie and wrote a song about the film.

I hope they bring in that guy she hooked up with who’s hairy like animal

Yeah this needs to be campy and sleazy but it absolutely won't be it will be the total opposite and suffer for it.

Though Sweeney is very nice casting.

That's if they even know what the original Barbarella is since something tells me the alt-right crowd aren't Jane Fonda fans.

Who’s NWR?

Never saw the original , but she does bare a close resemblance to a young Jane Fonda

Hell yes. They’re remaking everything anyway, why not Barbarella? Sweeney is perfect casting.

This film was so rooted in that time period of the sexual revolution and psychedelic drugs. Curious as to how they'll translate that for modern audiences.

It would be very ironic if they complained about that since the OG film was considered to be very "progressive" and almost too progressive for Conservative America at that time.

They’ll go after this movie if it features “Hanoi Jane”

I wonder if they are going to take tonal and production design inspiration from the Guardians Of The Galaxy franchise and Thor Ragnarok (colorful space opera with wacky comedy) in this modernization of Barbarella.
