Syndicate Wars spiritual successor Satellite Reign passed its Kickstarter goal this week, with around 12,000 backers raising the requisite £350,000 (roughly $535K) with four days to spare. That means the real-time strategy game is confirmed for Steam and GOG on PC, Mac, and Linux. December 2014 is the estimated release window on the game's Kickstarter page.

Satellite Reign puts players in charge of four-man team of agents, fighting to seize control of an open-world cyberpunk city. The combat is class-based, with each agent using distinctly different abilities. As for the metropolis, developer 5 Lives claims "it actually functions like a city," with crowds moving around it by day, and criminals fighting over it at night.

Now 5 Lives will set its cyber-scopes on stretch goals; the first one for Syndicate series composer Russell Shaw's involvement at £380K has almost already been achieved. The £400K goal for several European language localizations is realistic, but it'll take some stretch to reach the environmental destruction goal, which breaks at £440K.

The latest round of Steam Greenlight-approved games is headlined by a few Kickstarter successes, perhaps most notably the only-recently-funded Satellite Reign. The Syndicate Wars-inspired real-time strategy title achieved around $611K in backing, and now heads to Valve's portal alongside open-world zombie horror 7 Days to Die and 70s sci-fi god game Maia.

7 Days to Die even-more-recently achieved its Kickstarter goal of $200K and still has six days of its campaign to go, while Maia from indie dev Simon Roth, self-described as Dwarf Fortress meets Dungeon Keeper, was funded on Kickstarter late last year.

Other highlights from the round of 15 include The Novelist, in which you play a ghost who observes and shapes the lives of a family, the re-release of 90s horror The 7th Guest, sci-fi janitorial sim (yes really) Viscera Cleanup Detail, and another Kickstarter success in Nekro, which mixes Diablo-style gameplay with the charming art of necromancy.

We've got the full list of newly Greenlit games after the break. Continue Reading
