Taco Bell employee loses his job for calling the police on a deaf customer

I had a regular deaf customer at an old job who would write his orders on a notepad. There’s no reason why they shouldn’t have been able to do that.
 
Good thing Taco Bell fired that guy, but what about the other employees who were there and apparently not helping either and supporting the ******* employee at the drive-thru who refused to take the order?
 
@Teelie : exactly, why the other employees didn't intervened ? Which makes me think that it was, indeed, the company policy ( or at least this establishment policy ) as the employee said and they fired him when the video went viral to save face. Maybe the policy was not to take order if the customer window is closed ?
 
There are indeed company's with stupid policies like this and reprimand their employees for not following it. This was a common sense issue though.
 
One of the problems I have with this is if someone was with the deaf man why didnt they just order for him?

Should the deaf person have been able to order in a way that accommodated his disability? Yes, within reason. When it was evident that it wasnt going to happen the passenger with the deaf person should have stepped up and placed the order rather than recording on their damn phone. This generation's tendency to immediately video record every problem rather than resolving the problem irritates the **** out of me. Not every problem needs to become an online sensation. Just resolve the damn problem. File a complaint with the district manager. And move on. I guess because I lived prior to smart phones it's not in me to reach for my phone to record problems. I see a problem and I want to resolve it immediately in the simplest way possible and move on. Police brutality is the sort of thing I'd record. A bad drive thru cashier and difficulty placing a drive thru order...no, just no.

Edit: Also I dont think the employee should have been fired. Reprimanding him, corrective training, and a write up would have been reasonable and corrected the problem. But because of social media and fear of bad PR and the wrath of the Supreme Court of Twitter the store overreacted and fired the employee. This has likely ruined that person's chances of getting another job in customer service and fast food. People that work in fast food tend to do it because it's their best option. What does this mean for that employee? Probably that they will struggle to get another job, struggle to pay their bills and make ends meet. This event will follow the person around like a stench, and he will suffer far longer than that deaf person did at that drive thru. The punishment will far far exceed the "crime". Did the person recording and putting it online think about this? I doubt it.

Good point, why his girlfriend didn't ordered for them instead of recording.....this is make up drama for the sake of being published on social media and everyone "crucify" the cashier who, I am pretty sure, did his job as he was told to.

Common sense often doesn't agree with a company policy or laws for that matter and I'm not sure a mere cashier is allowed to use his.

It wouldn't surprise me if this was indeed the case. Not one bit.
 
Customers think they're entitled to see a cashier get fired. They are not, and they shouldn't have it continuously reinforced that they can kill someone's job with a snap of their fingers, not to mention vilify someone all over social media who was likely a powerless low-tier employee following company policy.
 
I think at some point theres going to be some push back against the idea that people, kids especially, can just record anyone and upload it to social media and potentially ruin lives. Either in the form of lawsuits or charges being filed. There are laws about recording people and requirements of permission, but the legal system is going to have to catch up with modern tech and modern behaviour to better protect people otherwise a lot more people are going to have their careers and lives destroyed for honest mistakes and brain farts.
