Co-production between Luc Besson‘s EuropaCorp and Universal TV will follow younger version of Liam Neeson‘s character.

Luc Besson‘s “Taken” franchise is expanding, with a prequel series following a younger version of Liam Neeson‘s character Bryan Mills in the works at NBC, TheWrap has learned.

The network on Thursday handed out a straight-to-series order for a drama prequel based on the 2008 action thriller written by Besson, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. There is no writer or showrunner attached to the reboot, though a search is underway. Also undetermined is the number of episodes that the Taken prequel will feature. http://bit.ly/1iTjjbX

Alright, this one feels like the trend has gone too far.

But then, they'll probably cast someone who wins me over completely.

I'd love for them to just give it the Wet Hot American Summer treatment and expect us to just accept that Neeson is playing, like, a 30 year old version of this character.

Not feeling this one already, I thought two sequels was already crazy

Ordered to series without a writer or a script? NBC keeps piling up those winners!

LOL. This sounds like a no-go. I'll be following this for the schadenfreude!

I mean who even look's like a young Liam Neeson not to forget similar height and build? Also factor in it's not a HBO or Netflix show so it will be some TV actor as well.

But....if this is a prequel....who gets taken? It can't be "Taken" without someone getting taken. Yall know the rules.

This has already been done to death. And do they not realize there's nothing special about Taken besides Liam Neeson?

I'd be more interested in learning about how Forest Whitaker became such a master detective.

"It was the bagels" indeed.

Get Richard Armitage and you've got a show worth watching.

It could be search and rescue type thing... with Bryan Mills (umm Michiel Huisman?) being sent in to rescue diplomats and POI and such. Something in the vein of 24?

The first film was a flash in the pan, I'm not sure what the thinking is behind a TV series. Other than watching Neeson kick ass and say cool stuff, they really have nothing to go on. It's not like Bryan Mills was an amazingly intriguing character everyone was dying to know more about.

Taken @nbc series taps Alexander Cary as showrunner http://ow.ly/TAJiW

Former Homeland executive producer Alexander Cary is set to write, executive produce and run Taken, NBC’s straight-to-series drama from EuropaCorp TV USA and Universal Television.

Drinking Game: When the series starts take a shot every time the word "taken" is used instead of "kidnapped."

'Taken' Prequel Series Finds Lead in 'Vikings’ Star http://bit.ly/21arTrh

NBC has found its young Liam Neeson.

Vikings star Clive Standen is set to take on the role of Bryan Mills in NBC's straight-to-series Taken prequel, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The drama is described as a modern-day prequel to Luc Besson's feature of the same name that starred Neeson as retired CIA operative Bryan Mills on a one-man mission to save his kidnapped daughter. The series will illustrate how a young Bryan develops his skills.

Standen, who has played Rollo since the start on History's Vikings drama, will take on the role of Bryan — the hero recruited to be a black ops agent in the elite Emergency Covert Action Team.
Homeland's Alexander Cary will pen the script and exec produce the drama, with Besson attached to executive produce the series alongside Matthew Gross, Edouard de Vesinne and Thomas Anargyros. Alex Graves will direct the pilot.
The drama is a co-production between Europa Corp TV and Universal Television. For Besson, Taken becomes his latest movie to be adapted for TV. It joins La Femme Nikita and Transporter.

Standen's credits include starring as Rollo for all 30-plus episodes of History scripted series Rollo. His credits include Starz drama Camelot, features Everest and the upcoming Patient Zero. He's repped by CAA and Management 360.

I hope this doesn't mean Rollo will die this season.

It confuses me why some actors leave successful series to go do projects that are more than likely going to (not to put too fine a point on it) fail miserably. Like the guy who left Game of Thrones to star in the Transporter remake. I'm sure there's a reason for it, but I can't figure it out.

Because, even if it doesn't last, there's undoubtedly a bigger career boost in being the lead of something, rather than just one in a huge ensemble. Seriously, how many series regulars does GOT have at this point? 60?

I binge watched seasons 1 to 5 and that recasting was so damn jarring for the next season.

But let's be real, though. If he didn't leave the show, he wouldn't have been Ajax in Deadpool.

He did alright, but it's not like the movie or the character of Ajax was great because of him.

But it was great for his career and his wallet. A door has to close for another one to open.
