How does everyone think TASM2 will do up against the other 2014 Marvel movies that are coming out, critically and commercially? Cap 2, DOFP, and GotG are all looking really good and unique and imo in comparison TASM2 doesn't sound as ambitious or out there as any of them. I remember Shikamaru being worried about TASM2 being showed by other Marvel movies. I dismissed it before but now I'm starting to reconsider.

TASM 2 will beat them all. Cap and DOFP should do strong business. I still don't know about GOTG, though.

I think TASM 2 is going to surprise people.

Don't know exactly how. It's just a feeling I have.

I'm not worried about it, TASM2 is the only movie im looking forward or to watch in theaters

Cap 2 and GOTG will do well, but probably not as well as ASM2 or DOFP, which are each others real competition.

Cap 2 releases 3 weeks before ASM2, and ASM2 releases 3 weeks before DOFP, so it'll be interesting to see how that succession affects those movies' gross.

GOTG arguably has the best spot.

While ASM2 has a highly coveted spot in May's first weekend, GOTG has no major competition in August, so it'll be interesting to see how it pans out.

It'll be interesting to see whether or not one of those can break 1 Billion. Particularly, ASM2 and DOFP, which are both primed to do it if everything comes together right for each.

Cap 2 may surprise us with how much it makes, but even still.

That limited 3 week time frame before ASM2 (which may riding Batman Begins to TDK type momentum) releases is doing it no favors.

GOTG is tough to say. I'm inclined to say it'll be an IM1, ASM1 type hit but its tough to say.

That can be better deduced once we start seeing things from the production.

What?

I was thinking it is looking a bit too ambitious

i say tasm2 will come in first not just because of the hype marc has made and te hype we have for it and all the rumors but most people will see it purely because it is a spider man film not to mention how well tasm did

The Marvel movies will probably do better than DOFP

X-men never made big bucks(compared to other Superhero movies) and Fox never markets them well

Box office wise I doubt any of those would come close

This is TASM2's chance.Spider-man is arguably the biggest will probably be the most hyped come 2014

I really hope Spidey has the best comic book movie of 2014. 2014 will be an all-Marvel competition. You got TASM 2, X-Men: DOFP, Cap 2, and GOTG. You also have Michael Bay's TMNT, which I don't count as "competition" for obvious reasons.

Since 2014 is an all-Marvel competition, I think it will be a bit embarrassing for Spidey if he doesn't have the best film. I'm not talking just box office but the quality of the film as well. Spidey is the king of Marvel and I think it is only right if he has the best film, especially since they have such a fantastic cast. Four of cast members are Academy Award winners.

Heck, I think it is more important for Spidey to prove he is Marvel's top dog now than it was ever been before. This isn't something that is happening too fast but it is happening nonetheless to an extent: Spidey's status as Marvel's poster boy is slowly dying. The comics have done nothing but regressed him back in development for the past few years while the rest of the Marvel universe continued to go forward. The video games are nothing too fantastic. Ultimate Spider-Man (the TV show) turned him into a gag character and into the exact opposite of who he is. He was killed off in both the 616 and Ultimate universes. He hasn't been shining in the movies either. Spider-Man 3 left a sour taste in people's mouths in 2007 and although TASM was a good film and solid representation of Spider-Man, it wasn't anything mindblowing due to it being an origin film and (naturally) covering a lot of the same grounds. People also need one film to get used to the idea of a new Spider-Man so soon.

On the other hand, the popularity of Iron Man and of the Avengers is quickly increasing. There was a time when Spidey had like 6 books and they had like 2 books. Now we are seeing stuff like these being reversed. If things continue at this rate for the years to come, Spider-Man will not only lose his status as Marvel's #1 top dog but will be pushed to living in the shadows of Iron Man and the rest. The FF reboot and X-Men films, plus their respective comics, also seem to be in a good direction.

But now the origin is gone. TASM 2 as well as the next 2 films after that will be your standard Spider-Man stories with an already established Spider-Man battling his villains. And as much as we probably hate to admit this, we live in a culture in which the film medium is seen superior to all the other film mediums. Therefore the general public's usual opinion of a superhero is almost entirely determined by the quality of the films and that opinion sometimes translates to other mediums as well. Take Batman for example. He has always been one of the most successful superheroes out there but Batman & Robin killed him in the eyes of the GA. TDK brought the GA's love for Batman back. Iron Man is another great example. Civil War ruined Iron Man worse than OMD ruined Spider-Man. The success of the movie not only made him (currently) Marvel's most popular character after Spider-Man but also saved him in the comics & gave him his reputation back.

Marvel is also continuing to put out mainly-high quality films. Cap 2 and Thor TDW look great. Avengers 2 and 3 will also be presumably great and Thanos might be one of the biggest things ever in CBM history. That being said, I believe that Spider-Man can make a comeback if Webb delivers a TDK-quality film. I think that will help him immensely especially in times like these. With the origin out of the way, they can do that now. They have the potential to do so in 2014, 2016, and 2018. Let's hope they make it happen. Spidey's overall future really depends on Webb and Sony.

What?

I was thinking it is looking a bit too ambitious
I mean in comparison to a movie about giant robots killing mutans, time travel, 17 different characters, and over 7 different countries and locations and another movie about alien space pirates with talking raccoons and trees. Not to mention Cap 2 is daring in its own way with it being completely about a conspiracy with Nick Fury, Cap, and Black Widow wanted and on the run and the real possibility of absolutely dismantling SHIELD as we know it.

In comparison to all that, TASM2 sounds almost safe.

I'm with TheWiseGuy. TASM2 will get just as much hype or more than the movies its up against. Especially with Jamie Foxx.

they need to make use of more tv spots and really make sure they have a good teaser especially since the orgin storie is out of the way there needs to be more action and fight scenes

TASM had enough spots, I don't remember the count but there were definitely enough. It's more important that the spots are good and that they air in the right places and create enough interest and buzz (which they most certainly will). I just hope the TASM 2 promotional material doesn't spoil alot of the movie, like what happened with the first film.

If Cinemascore is any indication, there was a strong audience with the first. Factor that with the production photos and the fact that it's Spiderman, it's probably gonna do pretty good.

yeah way too many clips were reaveled i hope the teaser has alooooooot of cool shots and atleast a small part of an action sequence between spidey and electro

Quality-wise I think Cap2 has the advantage with TASM2 right behind and GotG & DoFP duking it out for the spot behind that.

Box Office-wise I think 2014 is TASM2's to lose. It has the best advantages. Cap2 is a legit contender but it'd be a slight upset if it beats TASM2. The rest will duke it out again for 3rd place.

And whoever said DoFP has a shot at a billion$, no..just no. I don't see that happening when their top grosser couldn't even manage 1/2 of that.

i say tasm 2 will when all catgories but capt 2 is only going to be strong for 2 weeks

TASM2 will probably make the most money.

Of course its going to take the cake.

X-Men DoFP will be in the $400-500 million range worldwide (and that's assuming Wolverine is halfway decent)

Captain America will be $700mil worldwide maximum (and that's double what it's predecessor made so I'm being generous and hoping it is still riding the Avengers/IM3/Thor 2 wave)

Godzilla is the wildcard but I see no reason why it would make more than $500 million worldwide. Not yet anyway.

Ninja Turtles may not even deserve to be mentioned here, but if it makes more than $400 million I'll be thoroughly surprised.

Guardians of the Galaxy and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes are much further out but I don't expect phenomenal numbers from them either.

Whereas a Spider-Man film has yet to make less than $750 million. Bigger name actors than ASM, less reboot-itis, and a sht ton of buzz since production started. Not to mention Batman and Avengers aren't it's competition this time around.

TASM 2 is a beacon for Spiderman, and all Spidey fans. So much is resting on it to do good. Hopefully it will live u to expectations.
