Do you guys think we would get a Director's Cut of The Dark Knight? What if it was released in theaters a few months down the road? I thought i read somewhere that they considered even making an R rated version of TDK?

Could you imagine a Director's Cut in theaters that would add to the domestic total of TDK Like a 3 hour epic superhero crime drama? Wow. Kind of like how Star Wars re-released their movies with upgraded special effects, etc.

I could see a director's cut happening but nothing rated R.

if there is one... i would like to see it... but its doubtful.... What i would like to see is some Joker alt. takes

That would be excellent. A 3.5 hour magnum opus. He prolly just cut most that out to make the investors happy.

I think it would be sweet to see an R Rated Director's Cut version of The Dark Knight. They cut out a lot of stuff whether its useful or not, who cares? Any scene involving Ledger/Bale would be great JMHO :woot:

If the DVD sells are through the roof then I wouldn't doubt it if WB did a Director's cut.

There's a difference between an extended cut and director's cut. I think most of you want an extended cut.

I think we already got the director's cut.

Actually, a director's cut would make a butt-load knowing how many people loved this movie and how different it could end up being.

Yes I mean extended edition or extended cut. But sometimes Director's Cut can mean this is how the director WANTED the movie to be but some execs said no no.

yeah i think that this movie was cut both for the rating and for the time. I mean otherwise why use things like the button instead of having the joker carve the writing into brian douglass's body

We really don't know what Nolan had in mind first time around. A director's cut would be like this is what Nolan wanted/had in mind first time around. Extended edition would be deleted scenes and what not included into the film/plot.

With a director's cut, we could get a different view/perspective on things and how things began or ended differently from what we saw in final cut of the movie which was seen in theaters.

Correct, a director's cut usually implies the director had issues with the studio, MPAA, etc. that prevented him fully realizing the story he wanted to tell in the theatrical release. And I'm not sure if that was the case with this film. If there are deleted scenes that were deleted because Nolan felt they were weak and uneccessary once he got to post production then inserting them back in would not be a director's cut but the studio just making another edition of a DVD to make a buck off.

regardless though, any DVD version with additional or unseen footage would be amazing. I could not get enough of The Dark Knight even when it ended... I felt empty like I didn't get enough!! Lol.

If Joker scenes were taken out, it probably had something to do with Ledger's death, though Nolan has said that he pretty much kept everything the same. Point being, I don't think he'd release extras or anything.

But I'd really like some.

Gods I hope so, we need every iota we can of this movie.

I would like to see a director's cut, because I know things where cut. At the very least, I hope we get some deleted scenes, because I would like to see as much of Heath Ledger's work on TDK as possible.

No Director's Cut. Nolan has already stated in interviews that he had already locked down his cut in post. And that the film you guys saw in the theaters IS his director's cut. WB/DC gave him all the freedom in the world and they didn't interfere with his vision. So, safe to say, we won't be expecting no future 'Director's Cut'. AND, if we do, it is most definitely the studio cashing in on the movie again. There hasn't been any director's cut or extended versions of Nolan's movies. You've already got:

- Memento (standard and special edition)
- Insomniac (standard)
- Batman Begins (standard, special edition AND the gift set)
- Prestige (standard with some minor extras)

I don't have the following but I seen it and it seems to be only one version of it too. So there you go.

i wouldnt be surprised if there was some sort of extended cut of the film. sometimes the pacing of the film was kinda wonky, giving me the impression stuff was cut out, likely to cut down on the running time.

A "Directors Cut" is the director's preferred version of a film. Nolan was not put under any restraints when cutting TDK, anything that was cut was cut because Nolan did not think it was working. I am positive the theatrical version is the version he wanted to release. A director usually releases a D. Cut on dvd because the studio or MPAA forced changes he didn't agree with.

Nolan has said on numerous occasions that he doesn't like to over-shoot his films. Every frame of TDK is meant to be there.

An "Extended Cut" is when the studio takes all the deleted scenes, good or bad, and shoves them in in order to sell more dvds.

Don't expect either anytime soon.

I do doubt there were any cut scenes. Sure the trailers had footage that werent in the movie but chalk that up to alternate shots and editing. At most what was cut was a quick quip here and a punch there. There probably werent any whole scene worth making a directors/extended cut for.
