Marketing is about to kick into high gear. Not just the merchandise and tv spots, but all of the great Batman marketing we see with every film.

I'm personally looking forward to seeing what great tie-in commercials are going to be created. I absolutely loved the Gotham City Pizza commercial from Domino's for TDK. That was the best tie-in commercial for a Batman movie since the Diet Coke commercial featuring Batman and Catwoman from BR and the On-Star commercials (although those weren't movie tie-ins).

I think WB has been too cocky so far with the marketing, assuming TDKR will sell itself, which it will to some degree, but if they want Avengers/TDK money, they really need to step it up. I think bailing on a viral marketing campaign has really hurt the buzz for this film. It was huge at the start of the year but since Avengers marketing kicked in, TDKR has been put into a shadow.

The GA didn't really care about the viral campaign. It was mostly for Batman fans who were going to see TDK anyways. The lack of a viral campaign is not going to have a negative effect on this film.

You could be right I guess but still. Those people who did participate in the viral marketing probably felt closer to the film so went to see it multiple times and of course every time they go they bring their friends so I think it does add up. It wasn't just the viral marketing I was talking about though, its been pretty quiet on the TDKR front compared to TDK across the board really.

Is that really true, though? That's an honest question. Sans the virals, it seems like TDKR's marketing schedule has run almost parallel to TDK's. Maybe I'm wrong.

It DOES seem subdued in comparison to the Avengers marketing, but they really went over the top IMHO. Heck, most films are subdued compared to what Avengers did.

I think most people are aware of TDKR. We foam at the mouth over a new poster, but no one besides us cares about that stuff. People have seen the trailers and loved them.

You also have to think of all the stuff that's probably going to come out within the next few months. TDKR is going to be everywhere. I guarantee it. WB has put a lot of money into this film already, there's no way that they aren't going to promote the hell out of it.

And as far as viral, it is definitely more for Batman fans than anyone else. Plus they have done some viral stuff, just not anywhere near as much as they did for TDK. And they still have 2 1/2 months to do more viral if they feel like it.

I saw a quick TDKR promo ad during the NBA playoffs this weekend. Pretty cool!

It's not who I am underneath but my Mountain Deeeeew that defines me. Do the Deeeeew. :brucebat:

I love this because it's the beginning of the new tie-ins. Would be cool if the newest tie-in commercial will be mountain dew.

Imagine how cool it would be if there was a commercial where Catwoman broke into a high-level security place, we see her doing her superawesome thief stuff, and then it turns out that she's stealing the formula for the new mountain dew.

You're correct. If we look at the timeline for TDK promo, the only thing that happened in may was the release of the 2 trailer, some viral site were activated and someone received messages from the Joker on their phones. This really began to heat up in June in terms of the virals and there seemed to be something new happening everyday.

From Deadline's article about big studios skipping Cannes:

http://t.co/5YYTCnxJ

WARNER BROS: “None of our films are ready for a debut in Cannes, including The Dark Knight Rises,” an exec explains. “We have a very big campaign planned.
It’s also very early in the rollout.
Cannes works best if you’re opening your movie right after or if you are launching a very long lead critical campaign.”Warner Bros typically doesn’t do much promotion at Cannes, so it won’t be trotting out Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike or its Tom Cruise-starrer Rock Of Ages from New Line. A concert with Cruise as Stacee Jaxx or a Magic Mike-themed pole-dancing party on a yacht would have been perfectly ‘Cannoise’, as they say. Even the French media strongly believed TDKR would receive promotion from Cannes. Nope.

"We have a very big campaign planned." This should give all the whiny fans relief. We haven't even seen the beginning of the big marketing campaign for TDKR.

Well, there's only 2 months left. Not saying that there should be some crazy marketing campain earlier, but just a few more stills or high resolution versions of existing stills wouldn't hurt. They wouldn't lose anything if they did that IMO.

Correct.

But when I saw that TDKR logo on the TV screen I was like :wow::hrt::wow:

Your heart must have skipped a beat when you saw that :woot:
