MARVEL ADDS THE AVENGERS TO FILM SLATE
Last week, Marvel issued a report on its second quarter earnings, and yesterday, the company held a conference call, giving an overview of the companys film and development slate, which held a couple of previously unknown surprises
Following a presentation which outlined Marvels in-house production of feature films and the benefits to be found therein, the upcoming slate was discussed, which featured Marvels straight to DVD, television and film projects.
Included with the list of straight to DVD projects, Teen Avenegrs, listed as being in development, along with Iron Man and Spider-Man animated series.
In terms of feature films, the company also reiterated that the sequel to the Hulk is likely to be the second feature film to be released as part of Marvels self-financed film slate, following 2008s Iron Man. Again, David Self was named as writer of an upcoming Captain America film, with Andrew Marlowe listed as the writer of Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD, Mark Protosevich writing Thor, and as a new addition, Zak Penn was named as writer of The Avengers.
Marvels description of the film property reads:
"The Avengers are Earth's mightiest heroes, formed to fight the foes no single hero could withstand. The Avengers are the most prestigious and powerful super-hero team in the world."
The last announcement goes back to the Marvel films presentation at the recent San Diego Comic-Con, where it was noted that it was no coincidence that Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor were leading the Marvel self-financed slate.
