He may have deliberately rejected allegory, but Tolkien's personal views are all over the "Middle-Earth" books. One of his novels even has a story about the elves exiled, which thematically mirrors the story of Adam & Eve.

I recommend to you Joseph Campbell's "The Hero with a 1000. faces". If you read that book, you will shockingly discover, that ALL myth have the same, basic narrative structure and motive canon, from which they can choose, no matter if christian, muslim, buddhist, greek, persian, japanese, celtic, nordic, indian or tribal. It's always the same basic prototypes. I also recommend C.G. Jung and his teachings on Archetypes. Once you're finished with this, you will realize that Tolkien had as much to do with christianity in LOTR, as Homer had to do with Shintoism.
