WHAT?!? So this movie is cancelled?

That would be great news!

Great news? No, awful news but not unexpected. The Spidey reboot pretty much assured a Venom spinoff being sent into creative limbo. As I think I've said in this thread, there will be a Venom movie some day but it could be many, many years from now.

No, he's right, it is good news. Venom spin off would have been a disaster. Venom doesn't have what it takes.

Joker you are totally right. I can only laugh at people thinking this would work (and this comes from a guy who does NOT hate Venom, on the contrary, I would put him in my Top5 SM Villains along with GG, Ock, Mysterio & Lizard.)!

Let's leave the SM villains/anti-heroes/side-kicks in the Spider-Man movies, shall we?;)

Wow Venom'sDad, that really surprises me :oldrazz:
:D

But yes, I agree if we are talking about the usual characterization of Eddie/Venom.

I disagree if we are talking about what I have been a staunch advocate for; Eddie Brock's and Venom's character completely being re-invented... to give him a more mature, more realistic, motivation and a more solid foundation of his background/history. Get totally away from what is established in the comics, cartoon, and brief moment in film... he needs a totally re-invention.

Why not? Venom has more interest than people give him credit for and is one of the most popular villains in comics.

All of his solo comics contradict this. There is a market for a Venom movie but it has to be done correctly. With Spidey being rebooted, now isn't the time.

I distinctly remember some comics fans laughing at a Blade solo flick. They scoffed at a character with a limited history going it alone. Two sequels and a short-lived TV series later, we have proof that even minor characters can be successful with the right handling.

Oh no they don't. They were terrible. Venom just doesn't work without Spidey. The Joker had a solo run in the comics, too, but I wouldn't want him getting a spin off any more than Venom.

Best thing that could have happened was shelving this spin off.

Venom can carry his own movie as long as Carnage is the antagonist. Carnage, being the spawn of the symbiote, unleashes a path of destruction with the bodies piling up. Venom can be bad without mindlessly slaughtering people and has no choice but to assume the mantle of hero because he’s the lesser of two evils. He kills those he believes are victimizers and tries to protect the victims, as he perceives himself to be. There’s no reason why he can’t be portrayed as a cure that’s as bad as the disease.

Obviously, this isn't true for the Spidey/Venom fanbase because Venom's solo storylines went on for years and years. You didn't like them but obviously there was a market for them or they wouldn't have continued. The same can be said for a Venom movie.

There's also a market for animal porn.

What a mind-numbingly irrelevant comparison.

Still, it got me thinking...Hulk isn't human so when he and Caiera went between the sheets, does that qualify as beastiality? Hmm...eh...better not to think about it.

I'd classify it as **** not to be thought about, why are we have conversation?

Oh, it's pretty relevant alright. Allow me to translate:

It means just because you and a bunch of people like something, doesn't mean that there's necessarily a market for it.

Given that a movie like this would need a certain type of budget and audience to be worth it, I don't really think that there's a market for it other than a couple of very specific fans. Projects for fans don't really let you make that much money.

Sony just showed you this when they cancelled the project.

cancelling the project doesnt show jacks hit because they might be using Venom in the reboot. If Spidey reboot didnt happened we'd more than likely be getting this movie IMHO

Because I have a habit of bringing up bizarre, gross topics. :awesome:

Your comparison fails and, yes, there is a market for it. Venom was in such high demand from fans that he was able to break away, if only for a decade or so, from the Spidey books. A character simply can't do that without mass appeal. There have been similar characters and lesser-known characters/graphic novels that have made it to the big screen and Venom's solo movie is only getting held up because of the Spidey reboot.

Saw this a while ago...thank god its been canned

Venom was fine in SM3. Just because a director proves how weak a character is, doesn't mean he wasn't done justice.

I don't think it has been canned. It will probably happen in conjunction with Eddie Brock's storyline in the Spidey Reboot. That will mean another 5 year wait, I think.
